Christianity on trial in
Duck Dynasty controversy

American Thinker, by Thomas Lifson

America may be on the verge of a long-needed discussion over the limits of discourse on homosexual acts. Phil Robertson, patriarch of the family that stars in Duck Dynasty, the most popular program in the history of cable television, was interviewed by GQ Magazine, and was asked what in his mind is sinful: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there." (snip) Robertson spoke of homosexual behavior - i.e., acts. He took care not to characterize homosexuality per se as sinful. This is quite consistent with Christian doctrine of loving the sinner while hating the sin. That crucial point

Since when does 6% of the population have the right to end freedom of speech?

I´ve really had enough of all of these "offended" people making an issue about any and every conservative thought. Here´s a hint, I´m offended by every liberal cause out there 24/7, but I recognize their right to exist.

Enough already!

As a Christian, I have a great deal of patience with the many gays who *should* be standing up against the bigotry of the anti-Christian left. I am becoming convinced by the deafening silence from "the gay community" that part of what it means to be "homosexual" is to be generally deranged and misfit.

I hate bigotry, but this conclusion I´m coming to is seeming less and less like bigotry, since it is based on overwhelming evidence.

You know... SCIENCE!!

to make a small correction to a previous poster, the latest figures I´ve seen of the actual percentage of real homosexuals in the population is not 6 per cent. It´s around 1.7 per cent, a quarter of that.
1.7 per cent probably is approaching the number of lunatics who truly believe themselves to be Napoleon Bonaparte. We don´t shoot the Napoleonistas, but we recognize them as loons and don´t defer to their delusions.
And we should not ever defer to the delusions of the confused.

It´s worse than you think, #3. Homosexuals are only 1.5% to 2.5% of the general population.

It seems to me they are a little overrepresented on TV and in movies, as well as in positions of influence in certain political environments. Wonder why that is?

forgive 2nd post.
There is no such thing as "homophobia". It´s a manufactured term, devoid of real meaning.
There is such a thing as ´homodisgustia´, the very real revulsion of vile behavior, salted with astonishment and resentment that this sort of deviant vile behavior is suddenly supposed to be celebrated as superior, mixed with dark warnings against calling it what it is. It is long past the time for honest and forthright language. Homosexual behavior is morally wrong and harmful to the individuals and the society. Time to say openly what anyone with clear eyes can see.

#9, I fail to see where Phil´s words were homophobic.

He stated FACT. Fact that men would rather put their P in a V rather than an A.

IF that wasn´t the case we wouldn´t have over 5 billion humans walking the earth.

He said he didn´t understand their actions. Frankly, neither do I. I don´t get it. What´s the attraction?

I stand with Phil Robertson. I´m not a hater either. Either is Phil, he stated THAT too. But somehow THAT is ignored by the leftists.

I think this entire thing is going to backlash against the left.

Hogwash.

The embrace of sexual deviancy and immorality are as much a threat to this nation as profligate spending and the inexorable expansion of government and erosion of constitutional rights. They are all pieces of the same cloth.

People are free to choose. When they choose evil and sin and openly rebel against God they reap consequences as individuals and as a people. The United States is in decline because the moral underpinnings of the nation are being deliberately targeted for destruction. As more and more of the people abandon Christian morals and embrace lunacy the country becomes poorer, weaker and more divided. Leftists understand this and play on it as they imagine that once they have destroyed the moral underpinnings of the people they will then be able to "mold" them and guide them into the new El Dorado of the ideal Socialist State.

The so-called "social issues" are, in fact, the truly important issues. People who abandon virtue and self discipline in private life are not going to exercise these qualities much in public life. Our present state of civilization and governmental overreach and failure are ample evidence of this.

#15, excellent post - can´t be said better than that.

#9, that was not Phil Robertson´s "rant", he was paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. So, if that was anybody´s rant, I guess it could be said to be the Apostle Paul´s "rant" to the Christians at Corinth, although he was inspired by the Holy Spirit in all that he taught in Christ´s name. When it is followed to the ultimate source, God equated homosexuality with those other sins listed in those verses. That information is there because of a love so great that the Son of God shed His blood and died to cleanse mankind of those sins, if they will only hear, believe, repent and obey Him.

Phil Robertson didn´t force his views on anyone, and neither does the Almighty. That´s a free choice that each of us will have to make. We will suffer the consequences or reap the rewards depending on the choice we make.

I wouldn´t put it past the network to gin up the controversy so they could con people into buying a bunch of the DD merchandise that will make them a mint as they kick the Christians to the curb.

I don´t know Greek, but there must be a better term we can throw back at them. Posters #12 and #23, the Latin "odio" the root of "odious" which means disgusting makes a more appropriate suffix to "homo" than does "phobia" which means an irrational fear. Homo-odio or maybe hom-odio would roll of the tongue better.

No person I have ever spoken with has a "fear" of swishy homosexuals, yet many that I know personally are disgusted by their flagrant behavior.

My mom´s youngest brother, my godfather, was homosexual, and I loved him very much and lived with him to help with his bills after he couldn´t work with disabilities. He used to say:

No one asks what happens behind my married sister´s bedroom door. No one asks what happens behind my married brother´s bedroom door. Why should they care what happens behind my bedroom door?

In the nearly three decades since his death, the gay activists have come to believe that everyone should know--in graphic detail--what they are (should be) doing "behind their bedroom door."

If they would just shut their bedroom doors, no one would be bothered, but narcissist exhibitionists that they are, they have to slap us in the face with it, then mock and deride us for having morals.

Ezekiel Emanuel – brother of Rahm, with whom he shares a charm deficiency – shared his behind-the-scenes stories in the recent Wall Street Journal essay “Inside the Making of Obamacare.” To my ear, Emanuel’s abrasiveness and arrogance in his radio and television appearances undermine his defense of ObamaCare, and this piece of writing likewise does little to improve my opinion of President Obama or his signature law. Emanuel is often called the “the architect of ObamaCare.” Although no one person put together the Rube Goldberg contraption of a law, Emanuel was certainly a key player. He describes his role in the

Recently I watched the documentary Breeders, which I recommend to everyone – gay and straight, liberal and conservative. The documentary, produced by Jennifer Lahl at the Center for Bioethics and Culture, exposes the ethical dangers posed by the practice known as “surrogacy.” Surrogacy is the use of a contract, by which a woman agrees to carry a gestating child in her womb for another party (usually an infertile heterosexual couple or a gay male couple), and also agrees to abandon the child to the couple who has engaged her services. Compensated surrogacy means that the carrier is paid to rent out her

During the all-night Senate speech about climate change, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said he drove to Hawaii as a teenager. "I just do want to say that right after I turned 17 and got my New Jersey driver´s license, one of the earliest places I drove was a trip — the only trip I have ever taken was to Hawaii," he said on the floor at about 3:00 a.m. "You didn´t drive to Hawaii," Sen. With nearly all of the votes counted Tuesday night, Jolly had 48.5 percent of the vote to Alex Sink’s 46.7 percent. Libertarian Lucas Overby had 4.8 percent. Sink lost the 2010 governor’s race to Rick Scott. The Democratic Party sunk extensive ad funding into the congressional battle, and DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) tried to paint the loss as a positive. “Republican special interest groups poured in millions to hold onto a Republican
