Duck Dynasty´ star suspended
after anti-gay remarks

CNN, by Holly Yen and Dana Ford

Original Article

Posted By:Flyright, 12/19/2013 6:38:03 AM

Is this man simply expressing his beliefs or spewing bigotry?Either way, Phil Robertson, the patriarch in A&E´s "Duck Dynasty," won´t be duck calling on air anytime soon. The network suspended him after slamming gays in a magazine interview. In the January issue of GQ, Robertson said homosexuality is a sin and puts it in the same category as bestiality and promiscuity. "It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man´s anus. That´s just me. I´m just thinking: There´s more there! She´s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know

I have a feeling the Duck men will win this battle. Phil simply stated his opinion. He said he didn´t understand homosexuality. I don´t either. It´s always open season on southern white men who don´t scream or curse or mistreat people and who are devout christians. A & E better rethink, and quickly. The Duck men can take their $400 million with them to pretty much any other network alive.

Time for A&E to learn a hard lesson ~ no need to watch their channels.

The man cited and quoted the Bible.

Not sure if A&E is being run by militant and aggressive homosexuals, or simply anti-semites who cannot tolerate having the Bible quoted, but it makes no difference. As long as I think of the A&E crowd like that, I won´t be tuning in to their cr*p

95% of males agree with him regarding the body parts. Just because Phil expressed it, he´s gone?

Are you kidding me?

So, I supposes if Phil mentioned gerbils he´d still have a job? Crude, I know, but come on!

We have to fight this otherwise we are done as a society.

If Phil had announced that he was coming out of the closet and proclaimed his love for some other man, he would have been praised by the MSM for a week and earned a visit from the LGBT-in-Chief himself. Get over it, A&E, there is a reason that Duck Dynasty is so popular.

I completely agree with other posters. We are at a place in our society where it is unacceptable for a man to state his opinion based on his faith in frank terms. On the other hand, there is a different religion which hands down the death penalty for homosexuality and we don´t hear a peep from the left. The bottom line simply stated is that if you are a Christian and say that homosexuality is a sin because the Bible says so, it is outrageous and you must be punished. If, however, you are a muslim and agree that homosexuality should be punished with the death penalty, it is perfectly acceptable and cannot be criticized. Let´s have some fun and ask liberals to explain this.

It´s an upside-down, inside-out, world where wrong is right and right is wrong. Phil Robertson is right and they are wrong, but the leftist homosexual lobby, like Washington, wants to control and decide what is right and strip away the authority of God and His Word.

We are rapidly approaching the point in this nation where Christianity will be illegal, where our pulpits will be watched for criminal behavior, where sitting in a pew will be more distained than visiting a brothel. I believe that Tocqueville was right when he said that American is great because it is good and if it ceases to be good it will cease to be great. It is really important that we stop this “political correctness” that is undermining our goodness.

FTA:
When asked what he thought was sinful, Robertson replied: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.

Doesn´t sound to me like Phil was equating homosexuality with beastality as was alleged on TV last night.

How long will we tolerate the LGBT bullies who are able to set the moral standards for religious believers. This will be a test for the family. Do they stand up for their principles or bend over for the bullies? And why do all the reports skirt mentioning that homosexual males are involved with anal sex like its to gross to mention. Well, it´s because it is! It´s how NORMAL males naturally react. Like having sex with a dead body. I guess the LGBT bullies would claim that was the rights of someone. These people belong in the sewer. Oh, sorry, their already there. Saying an anus is part of the reproductive system doesn´t make it so. ITS BIOLOGY STUPID!

Thank you, #18. I was planning to provide that very link and you beat me to it.

I posted my feedback last evening, as I was watching Megyn Kelly´s show. As soon as she made this ´breaking news´ announcement, I looked online for the story, found it, and located that feedback button for A&E.

They have hugely miscalculated here. I am sick and tired of being bullied by noisy little splinter groups of misfits who can´t adjust to society the way it is, and the way it is intended to be, so they agitate and make life complicated for all the rest of us.

To the Robertson Family: We are still with Phil! We´re still with all of you. Take your show to where it will be appreciated, and we´ll follow. A&E can go the way of the dustbin. Your family and your show have lifted A&E out of the pits of cabledom - and if you leave, it´ll go right back there.

Phil has expressed his lack of enthusiasm for the show anyway. If he wants to be done with it, fine. But for A&E to publicly scold him for HIS FREE SPEECH and exercising his freedom of religion is hypocritical in the max. This show is watched and enjoyed more than any other show on television, BECAUSE THEY ARE RELIGIOUS. This country is craving that return to NORMAL.

Phil will be fine. But if A&E pressures the family to change their show, it´ll be noticed, and the Robertson family should be welcomed at any other network.

Should be.

So speaking truth to reality without the left´s political correctness is vile hate speech worthy of sensor?

This is further proof the left really does not understand nor respect the Constitution and the individuals right to free speech. Is it only free speech if you say what we want you to say? This is just one part of the argument.

Under 2% (estimated gay population) of the tail is wagging the media dog of opinion attempting to raise faux outrage with the 15 second attention span of the LoVos. This is bovine excrement.

I stand with Phil Robertson.

Christians believe that homosexuality and any sex outside of marriage to be a sin. Christians don´t murder gays and adulterers. Muslims do murder gays and adulterers. These gay rights groups like GLAAD are the biggest cowards around. If they were sincere, they would go after Muslims; but they don´t. They´re afraid Muslims would slit their throats or blow them up so they go after Christians.

To quote Phil in an interview he gave to a sportsman show or network a while back: "A&E don´t know who we are. We know who they are, but they don´t know who we are."

That was in reference to A&E throwing in fake bleeps as if there was profanity in the dialog, and cutting out, "In the name of Jesus," when Phil gives the blessing at meal time.

He called A&E´s hand on both incidents and A&E backtracked. [Crawfished, to quote GWB.]

Will the rest of the family stand with Phil and refuse to be filmed? I can´t see them doing anything but.

Will A&E file a lawsuit for breach of contract? Will the Robertsons counter-sue citing violation of civil rights.

A&E has the highest rated cable show in the history of cable shows. Do you think they know that?

Do you think A&E knows that Duck Dynasty and the Robertsons are not reeeeeeeeeally redneck hicks, but are very successful businessmen worth millions?

How did that Chick-fil-a boycott work out for the Gay Lobby? There might be a lesson in that.

The success of Chick-fil-a proves that people are hungering for a Christian family who will stand up for their values.

Phil said that the success of the show proves that people hungering for the exact sort of "clean" programming that DD provides?

And thanks for the feedback button.

Phil Robertson stated that he loves all of mankind, because God does. That love leads him to warn of what he believes is offensive behavior, i.e., sin, in the eyes of God, and that has natural harmful results for the sinner. He didn´t call for any loss of rights for gays.

His comments were called "anti-gay."

The slander by those who call him "anti-gay" is *truly* offensive!

God is warning people, through the Bible, through many religious traditions, and now through Phil Robertson, to live the life that is wholesome, safe, productive, worthy of honor.

Having an opinion contrary to what the establishment thinks is no longer allowed. The liberal left, that talks so much about inclusion, is firmly against any form of independent thought or conviction.

To my knowledge we still have the right of free speech and its time we use it to start talking about whats wrong with this country.

Don´t ask a committed Christian a question if you don´t want an answer based upon Biblical truth. The Bible is very clear on the subject of homosexuality, adultery, lying, theft, murder, greed, envy, slothfulness, etc. What people seem to forget is that in God´s eyes sin is sin. He does not have a sliding scale that measures sin. If you have committed one sin, then you are guilty of all under the law. God in his love and mercy provided a way for all of us to be reconciled to Him and that is by accepting Jesus and acknowledging that he is the son of God, and has paid a price for your sin that you could never pay no matter how good you are.

Homosexuality is a hot button issue because Christians are being forced to accept it by the government and a godless society. Look at the baker and photographer as examples. They are being forced by the government to go against their religious beliefs. Does anyone believe there are no gay bakers or photographers? They are being made an example just as is Phil Robertson. Don´t be naïve and think Phil did not see this coming. Every high profile Christain is in the crosshairs of the gay activists. There is an agenda here and it is marching right along. Expect pastors and preists to fall into this trap sooner rather than later. We are going down a very dark path in this country if we don´t stand up now.

#46 - its one thing to serve homosexuals and it´s a totally different think to have to make their wedding cake. There is a big difference in what we permit and what we promote. The baker shows toleration of homosexuality by serving them, but he was asked to promote homosexuality by making their wedding cake. Homosexual activists have gotten way over the line and that needs to be corrected, "El Quicko".

I´ve not grown cynical enough to believe that the media & this administration set this up, especially with Christmas a mere week away. They KNEW what kind of answer Phil Robertson would give when this question was asked. It´s stories like this that cause a huge distraction and division of the American public and gives this administration the PERFECT cover to pass laws and acts that increase their power and reduce our liberties. Could be wrong, but keep an eye on Congress.

If A&E is able to fire/suspend Phil Robertson as a lowly employee from Duck Dynasty, it would seem that A&E owns the show, it´s title, and all production rights. It may be difficult for the remaining family members to exercise any rights as employees so they may have to walk off set. Let´s hope they do!

A&E will lose this fight either way.

I think it is a part of the whole mood of what is happening in and to this country. If anything the conversation will be more animated because of it and expand to make connections with other issues, imho. Hopefully, it will help to make people realize that conversation is not enough, that griping and complaining, moaning and bellyaching is not going to change anything, that action is required whether it is regarding our freedom of speech, our health care, or whatever.

Like Esther, the Robertson family was born "for such a time as this."

Let´s be like Aaron and Hurt were with Moses and hold up their arms for the length of this battle. Write to tem and to A&E to voice your sport for Phil just like we all did for Chick-Fil-A.

God doesn´t need to be defended, He is the Almighty. But we are commanded to fight for the faith and be strong in His might, to contend for the Gospel.

On the front page Miss Lucianne worries that this will take Obamacare out of our conversations. On the contrary, it´s one more outrage perpetrated on us by people who think they are better than we are. The same people have decreed that on January 1st we can no longer be trusted with 60W and 40W incandescent light bulbs. I don´t know what the final straw is going to be, but it´s coming.

This is my email to A&E:

To the idiots at A&E,
If I recall, we still have a Constitution that guarantees freedom of speech. I defend a man or woman his or her right to express an opinion at any time anywhere and I don´t give a rats ass if it offends you or any of your viewers. When the likes of Bill Maher can slam Christians, or go after Sarah Palin´s daughter, and the list goes on, that´s okay with the PC crowd, but God forbid someone says something that isn´t PC. There is no provision in our Constitution that guarantees against having your little feelings hurt.

I have blocked A&E on my TV permanently, I will be contacting the sponsors of Duck Dynasty to express my extreme displeasure with the decision of A&E that violates Phil Robertson´s right of free speech, you know, that one that is protected by our Constitution.

Our e-mail to both last evening.
Phil, I am copying A&E so there is no doubt what my husband and I say.

Congratulations to you on upholding God´s Laws in your GQ interview. The writer was full of himself and pretty profane. I suppose that appeals to the "GQ" set. Sad!

Over on Lucianne.com people are pretty upset, and when I last checked, 100% on your and God´s side.

Keep up the good work, even in absentia, Phil!

A&E, get a life and stop allowing 1% of the very noisy community of the defiled drive your corporation to make such a laughable and stupid decision. We are not even going to surf by your network at our house. Last time we checked, speech was still a Freedom protected by the Bill of Rights for all Americans, not just the loudmouths.

Merry Christmas, to the Robertson Family who, like all of us, got here thru a birth canal!

Megyn Kelly addressed this on her program last night. She had three guests comment on it. The obligatory homosexual activist was first up and immediately declared Mr. Robertson´s comment "vile" and hateful and unchristian and that they had no place in a public forum and that it was only right and proper that Robertson be driven from the airwaves. His comments were delivered with an attitude that fairly screamed "you say anything about the gay lifestyle that we don´t like and your career in the public eye is over". What struck me about this was that it was an open threat to any and all persons in the media or who have media access or any position wherein they are able to air their thoughts to the public. And the other two guests as well as Ms. Kelly got the message. Their only response was that maybe it would be nice if people could be allowed to exercise their right to free speech (a position that the homosexual made clear was unacceptable as this was "hate speech"). When I looked at Ms. Kelly and the other two guests I saw apprehension and fear. When I looked at the homosexual activist I saw indignation and determination and confidence that no one there would dare challenge him if they knew what was good for them.

#55, I do not believe she is worried about anything. I believe she was actually being a bit on the sarcastic side.

As in grateful for a more decent and appropriate topic to discuss rather than Obama´s failure.

I can´t wait for all the dancing from the media next year when the subject of the new mayor´s self described, ´former lesbian´ wife comes up, with all that implies.

All papa Phil did was wonder why people would make the choices that they are.

God moves in mysterious ways. Who would have thought that He would move in the form of a reformed reprobate from the swamps of Louisiana? All posters above are correct. A&E needs the Robertson´s, the Robertson´s don´t need A&E. I´m sure the Outdoor Channel would be thrilled to have them back. They would be a great addition to The Blaze. They can write their own ticket. Like Chick-fil-a (you still can´t get a seat at our local one due to the crowds) and Hobby Lobby (always packed with shoppers), God will bless them for taking a stand.

Congratulations A & E on your losing triple play. You have voted against freedom of religion, freedom of speech and shot the golden goose that brought in all the advertising revenue for your channel . You will be forever remembered and the network that chose political correctness for a small minded bunch of hypocrites over the Constitution and more than 11 million fans. The brains of your operation now look as small and uninteresting as the rest of your line up of shows. Bye Bye viewers, Bye Bye advertising revenue based on viewership and bye bye executives who shot the golden goose by knee jerk reaction from threats by people who don´t watch your channel anyway.

Phil´s problem, if it can be called that, is that he didn´t explain the rest of the Christian doctrine on homosexuality and other sins: God loves and forgives all sinners who repent, abstain from their sins, and believe in Christ. He has no time for those who embrace their sins by saying they are not sins at all.

The erroneous idea that non-Christians have about Christians and homosexuality is that the former hate the latter. Not true. There is also the error that homosexuality is not a choice. Everyone has choices. Adulterers have choices. Drug addicts have choices. Thieves, murderers, liars have choices. So do those who are "oriented" toward homosexuality.

And his offensive claims about gay people fly in the face of science...every single leading medical organization in the country has said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being LGBT -- it´s not a choice, and to suggest otherwise is dangerous."

Dangerous? And what science is the gay rep talking about? There is no settled science on being gay. They have not found a "gay gene". There most certainly is something wrong with sexual relations between two gay men or two gay women. God didn´t set the human body up that way.

Just because there is consensus in America that gay is okay (is there?), this does not mean they are right. There was once consensus about other "settled science" that turned out not to be settled at all.

Phil Robertson needs support. I have already contacted A&E about this.

FINALLY: One last time: Christians love gay people because we are all sinners. Being gay in God´s eyes is no different than any other sin. It must be rejected.

A&E is losing nothing by this shallow grandstanding, this empty gesture at appeasing what one can only assume are their bosom buddies while alienating a vast viewership.

Why? Because the upcoming season of DD is already in the can. They own it, they´ll show it and leave the Robertsons to suck wind.

Why in the world would Robertson fall into the trap set for him by that rag GQ? Southern Christians are dog meat to the gay left. Did Robertson learn nothing from what happened to Paula Deen?

When will conservative Christian right learn to stay away from the swamp dwellers in the alphabet networks and sleazy print media? They do not change the left/gay´s way of thinking. All they do is make targets of themselves.

Bombarding A&E is pointless - they knew exactly what they were doing and willfully did it. I don´t know who the sponsors are for this show but I´d certainly like to lay hands on a list of them. I´ve got plenty of time to send feedback to each and every one. That´s about the only weapon left.

Once again, network executives react in a knee-jerk reaction to the gay activists who are likely not even viewers of the show. The thing is, I can´t remember them ever responding in this manner to protests from Christian groups over the crude and vulgar programming that is constantly put before us. They go out of their way to make it appear as though flamboyant homosexual men are hugely represented in the population when it´s actually under 2 percent. The left always asks for tolerance, yet are actually the most intolerant of the views of others.

And simply does not recover?

Without an unqualified, unconditional apology to Phil Robertson to go along with a reinstatement, I´ll never even surf past their idiotic channel again. I don´t give a crap whatever else they put on.

This is the culture war in its purest current form: the secular left´s highly organized campaign to drive every expression of traditional morality out of the public square and to make it unacceptable in any form, anywhere. More, it is to destroy those who proclaim or exemplify traditional morality and those who give a platform to them. The left has figured out (with the help of George Soros) how to pressure sponsors to withdraw their support in order to punish media people who defy them.

When Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a slut (pretty much in passing), he became a target like that. He lost a lot of his sponsors. Fox News relies a lot more gold brokers and legal services for sponsors than it used to before operations like this came along: http://foxnewsboycott.com/fox-news-sponsors/

So this Duck Dynasty affair is just the latest, and A&E is caught between a rock and a hard place. If they keep the guy, this nasty machine will be turned on them and their sponsors, no matter how much they claim to love gays. If they let him go they lose their viewership.

Sarah Palin wasn´t destroyed because she preferred small government or liked oil drilling. It was her Downs baby and her refusal to shut up about her decision to have him. That along with her immense attractiveness to ordinary people, just like the Duck Dynasty guy´s.

I called it a culture war but it seems it´s only one side doing much fighting, so maybe it´s better called a culture rout.

I perused the census one time and discovered that less than 2% of the households in the US were designated as homosexual. If I could have delved deeper, I´m sure that 90% of that less than 2% were involved in the entertainment industry one way or the other.

Hollywood itself is a sinkhole of depravity and those who aren´t gay there are afraid of offending those that are. Start boycotting the film and entertainment industry and you kill the goose (probably not a good term to use here).

I could live happily ever after if they would just shut up. The very nature of their personal behavior would insure their natural passing in a few generations. Over and above all that, two percent of the population in a Republic shouldn´t be able to corrupt the lives of the other 98%.

Since this is a Republic and not a true Democracy, then Free Speech with Constitutional guarantees rule to some extent. Liberals always seem to refer to our Government as a Democracy. If it was a pure Democracy then we could vote Gays out of existence. Be careful what you wish for.

Homo-ism IS a choice, and only a choice. There are no DNA strands involved.

Christian Doctrine does, however teach of "the old man", "Adam´s sin", or "the old sin nature", which is passed down through the male in procreation (hence the importance of the virgin birth). This affliction of the soul may contain a proclivity toward being a homo, but then again, the same person may have a proclivity toward being a drunkard, drug abuser, kleptomaniac, murder, rapist, etc. Neither the Bible, or society accepts those sins as "normal," as of yet, but we´re on the road to desolation when sociiety thinks it can rebuke God´s laws and replace them with their own. That was the lesson of Sodom & Gomorrah that is lost on the willfully degenerate today. God will not be mocked.

The Homo-Nazis are on the march, and they´ve to date not met with any significant opposition, from the "Gay Pride" marches in the Homoland "mecca", San Francisco, to the other cities that harbor so many of them, Washington DC, Houston, Boston, NYC, etc. This nation was built on traditional Christian values, and it can only stand on those same values. We will be destroyed, in Biblical manner, if we continue to tolerate and accept this attack by psychotic homosexual activist Nazis. And yes, it is a psychosis. Take away their hormones and what do they have? Misery.

As a sidenote, the first ones murdered en masse, upon Hitler´s ascendency to power, were the homos, whom he recruited to fill the ranks of his Brownshirt Army.

If people are looking to show A&E what they´re missing out on and want to buy merchandise to support the Robertsons, be sure to purchase Duck Commander and not Duck Dynasty. A&E gets far more of the money from DD gear than the family does.

It´s A&E´s right to do what they will with their programming, but it´s everyone else´s right to respond. I think A&E is hoping people will buy merchandise to support Phil Robertson and they´ll get a great windfall. Don´t give it to them.

´PC´ is nothing more than a group´s opinion and, unfortunately, the wrong group has its say now.

No way will the rest of the family carry on with the show without Phil Robertson. As much as I side with Phil, I´ll be surprised if their contract with A&E allows them to take the show and shop it to other networks.

A&E erred greatly here with their most popular show ever--cutting off their nose to spite their face. Stupid.

Homosexuality is a perversion, it is not normal of healthy. I do not hate homosexuals, but I find their lifestyle repellent. The real travesty here is how the gay lifestyle has been mainstreamed and promoted as a healthy way to life one´s life. It is not. I do not watch Duck Dynasty but I hope this dude Phil stands strong and I hope his family sticks with him and tells A&E to go pound sand. Sure they got them enough cash around without that show.

#65,

Phil did explain.

´“Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong,” he says. “Sin becomes fine.”

What, in your mind, is sinful?

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” ´

I just re-read the article and it seems that it has been edited since yesterday. In the original article, Phil added this after the quote above (paraphrased): It´s not up to us to judge whether someone´s going to heaven or hell, that´s the Almighty´s job. We just love everyone and tell them the good news of Jesus.

You can read the GQ article here (warning it contains crude language by the author):

As for Megyn Kelly - I missed that segmnent but saw the one with Sam/Scott LaBolt, former aide to Obama discuss his hypocrisy on saying he would elevate the language of politics but instead has been everything but with his attacks on extremist Republicans, sit in the back of the bus, bring a gun to a knife fight, etc. And she just didn´t really challenge this guy when he said both sides ned to be civil. Then Megyn says yup - both sides need to be nicer to each other. What a joke.

GQ is a hot bed of metro-sexual girlie men and they deliberately sandbagged this guy. He was specifically asked about his RELIGIOUS beliefs concerning sin and he hit it out of the park --- from his perspective. All the angry gays have to get over themselves, starting with that guy (girl?) on Megyn´s show. It ain’t all about you. Lots of people think you and other gays have chosen a sinful life. That´s their belief. Hello?? Lot’s of people think I’m going to hell because I don’t share their values, lifestyle or whatever. So? It’s called freedom of religion and speech. Plus Old Phil didn´t say it on the show, or on an ad trip on their behalf. So what´s A&E got its shorts all twisted about?
I´m a libertarian and stand with the Duck guy on this one ... even though I can see his words might have hurt some people with delicate feelings. Well, guess what? Not everyone likes you in this world. I learned that in first grade. That´s called life. Grow up. Dry your eyes. Move on.

In ØDumbø´s Divided States of Islam you are entitled to free speech and free press as long as what you say is politically correct. Doubt the Food Channel misses Paula Dean. A&E is on my cable system but I don´t even know the channel no. I´d like to join in the boycott but it´s hard to do when you don´t watch them anyway. Will be interested to see if Terry Bradshaw on Fox Sports will stand up for his friend the star of Duck Dynasty.

RE: #52 - I´m sure the Robertsons have some sort of broadcast deal with A&E, but A&E does not own the show. It is owned and produced by other people, and Willie retains executive producer rights, meaning he can say yea or nay to anything.

A&E has stepped in it bigtime. Just ask Food Network how their knee-jerk firing of Paula Deen has worked out for them. Just ask Chick-fil-A how the gay boycott worked out for them. I´m guessing this is a pre-emptive sop by A&E to the gay lobby in hopes this will all die down before the Jan. 15 premiere of the new season of DD. We shall see.

Hold on there, cowboy!Texas Monthly magazine sued the New York Times on Friday for poaching its editor. Jake Silverstein, who was hired away from the Emmis Communications title last month to become the new editor of the New York Times Magazine, was under contract at the regional monthly until the Times, “without legal justification or excuse,” caused him to breach that deal, the lawsuit claims. The six-page Texas state court action alleges that Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson started recruiting Silverstein in December 2012 — a full year before then-magazine editor Hugo Lindgren was ousted. New York - President Barack Obama is coming to New York City Friday to address the Rev. Al Sharpton‘s National Action Network. The visit comes days after revelations surfaced that Sharpton worked with the FBI. The topic also came up in a 2011 ’60 Minutes’ interview with Lesley Stahl weeks before the debut of “Politics Nation.”In outtakes posted from that interview, Stahl asked Sharpton if he was an FBI informant. The exchange got testy at times when Stahl continued to question Rev. First came the “polar vortex” — now it’s the “pollen vortex.”Forced to lie dormant by the long, brutal winter, trees are now set to start reproducing like crazy — and create a massive amount of pollen that could wallop your sinuses this weekend. Pollen count in the Northeast will soar to “high levels” Saturday and Sunday, when warm temperatures will prompt plants to create the sniffle-inducing substance, reports Pollen.com, which offers allergy “forecasts.” In New York City, where the temps could hit 70 degrees Saturday, allergy symptoms will “become more severe,” the site says. April is generally the worst month of allergy season,

President Obama stood Friday with the Rev. Obama’s appearance represented a presidential seal of approval of Sharpton’s role as a civil rights activist, amid the new revelations about how Sharpton used a wire to record

Two years before the Boston Marathon bombing, the Russian government concealed key information on one of the killers that might have thwarted the attack, a new report charges.Kremlin officials intercepted a phone conversation in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev discussed Islamic jihad with his mother, but they withheld the information from the FBI, according to the U.S. inspector general report that comes as the one-year anniversary of the bombing approaches. Fears that high-speed traders have been rigging the U.S. stock market went mainstream last week thanks to allegations in a book by financial author Michael Lewis, but there may be a more serious threat to investors: the increasing amount of trading that happens outside of exchanges. Some former regulators and academics say so much trading is now happening away from exchanges that publicly quoted prices for stocks on exchanges may no longer properly reflect where the market is. And this problem could cost investors far more money than any shenanigans related to high frequency trading. When the average investor, or even

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared Tuesday his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better´ in a Rose Garden press conference. But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.

The world is doing everything it can to run in the opposite direction of abundance because we think we have too much. The West dreads warmer weather, even though warmer weather might

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. Some time back, whenever a big racial controversy erupted, I trained myself into the habit of reading about it at FoxNews.com, just for the unbelievable comment threads. Let’s put it this way: If my friends and I went out to a bar and started playing a “let’s write the racist FoxNews.com comment thread” drinking game, our efforts couldn’t begin to approach what I read there.I wasn’t alone. Liberal websites started feasting on these threads. And so, a couple of years ago, Ailes & Co. got wise. Stories about race were, at least in my disheartened experience, closed to comments.
