Obama mocks Putin, picks gay
athletes for Sochi delegation

Associated Press, by Eddie Pells

President Barack Obama sent Russia a clear message about its treatment of gays and lesbians with who he is — and isn’t — sending to represent the United States at the Sochi Olympics. Billie Jean King will be one of two openly gay athletes in the U.S. delegation for the opening and closing ceremonies, Obama announced Tuesday. For the first time since 2000, however, the U.S. will not send a president, former president, first lady or vice president to the Games. Russia has come under fierce criticism for passing national laws banning “gay propaganda.” Though the White House did not specifically address

I think normal Americans will be more embarrassed over this than Putin.

Putin is not a guy I´d attempt to mock unless I were holding a VERY strong hand. Russians are quite adept at getting the last word, especially on their own turf. This delegation might enter Russia with great fanfare, only to discover some problem in their paperwork, and then find themselves camping in airport limbo for the entire 3 weeks of the games. Russians have no fear of embarrassment, and don´t find "enfants terribles" cute. Something Obama should know by now, having been publicly spanked by Putin a few times.

I don´t think Putin is easily mocked by this President.

I read an extremely funny analogy by one of our posters to a different article here where they said Putin compared dealing with Obama to playing chess with a pigeon; first, he knocks over all the chess pieces, then he poops on the board, and finally he struts around with his chest puffed out, telling everyone he won.

Not verbatim, but as close as I can remember.
And Putin said it, not me.

#16 wrote "It´s a community organizer thing - stirring the pot - always agitating/irritating. It´s Obama´s MO."

It truly is intentional. As agent provacateur, 0bama seeks to provoke any reaction that he can then portray as "extreme" or unjustified.

His intrusions and provocations (via IRS suppression of T.E.A. Party, Dept. of Injustice, Unaffordable Care Act, etc.) are constant and deliberately "small" or "trivial," but calculated to add up relentlessly, to suck assets, time, energy, money and power away from his opponents.

He seeks to humiliate us, to show constant disrespect to us. He seeks to tie us up with actions and policies that are "almost impeachable," "almost worth taking to court," etc.

He *hopes* to see angry reactions! He *hopes* for violence!

The media love it, of course. They love the conflict. But it is infantile, the attitude of a petty tyrant, a spoiled child.

#4 based upon Ambassador Stevens being gay, one might have guess Obama would have provided security to him in Benghazi. That not security was provided nor help sent upon attack...one surmises that Stevens secret meeting with the House Intel Committee, as Committeee Chair Mike Rogers has stated on Megyn Kelly, that meeting and testimony might have caused his death. Perhaps it wasn´t under oath thus didnt actually "count" and certain people couldn´t risk it ever would be.

#13...Napolitano is a lesbian which is why she installed her prison matron gals as department heads at Homeland Security where they proceeded to harass the men out of their jobs.

Surprised Obummer isn´t leading the delegation in his mom jeans.

I thought we had an Olympic Committee that selected the athletes who competed in the Olympics. All Russia has to do is give all the Gays a cavity check like the NYPD just did to an Indian female Diplomat who told them numerous times that she had immunity.

This so called President of ours is a total embarrassment to our the nation. Look at what happened to Obama the last time he crossed feathers with Putin. Russia will do what it wants to do, and they have Snowden in reserve who would probably release a lot of information on our Code Pink Punk.

Put frankly, right now the Russians have us over a barrel.

Chances are that any perceived mocking of Putin and Russian laws and domestic policies by Obama will come back to bite the USA at the most unexpected time and ways. Putin will probably ignore the people that Obama is sending over to Russia, they will only be in Russia for a short time and will have little access to the Russian mass media, and will wait to take Obama on when it is going to result in the maximum advantage to Russia.

KUALA LUMPUR - About 100 Malaysian Muslim activists protested on Friday outside the US embassy against the coming visit by President Barack Obama, denouncing him as an enemy of Islam. The demonstration underscored the delicate nature of Obama´s trip to Muslim-majority Malaysia, which will make him the first siting US president to visit in nearly half a century, a period marked by mutual distrust. The protesters marched to the embassy in Kuala Lumpur from a nearby mosque after Friday afternoon prayers, shouting "God is great" and "Obama is the enemy of the Prophet Muhammad." An email from Monica Lewinsky was omitted from the Clinton library’s latest document dump for privacy reasons. Every two weeks this spring, the National Archives has been releasing documents from Clinton’s presidency through The William J Clinton Presidential Library & Museum in Little Rock, Ark. The documents were previously withheld under the Presidential Records Act. The library posted the latest batch online today, linking to thousands of pages of official memos and communications between aides. Included in a list of withdrawn/redacted documents (commonly interspersed in the large .pdfs), midway through a

This is not a joke, but it is funny. It´s also practical. Argentina´s National Institute for Agricultural Technology (INTA) has invented a way to convert cow flatulence into usable energy, and it involves putting a plastic backpack on a cow. In other words, cow fartpacks are here.(snip)Here´s how the fartpacks work: tubes run from the backpack into the cows´ rumen (or biggest digestive tract). They extract about 300 liters of methane a day, which is enough to run a car or a fridge for about 24 hours. Pablo Soranda, INTA press officer, told FastCo.Exist that the project is more about making a point than

Given their druthers, some Kansas high school students and their parents said they would rather keep their graduation day just a family affair instead of expanding the guest list to include first lady Michelle Obama. The criticism erupted after the Topeka, Kansas school district announced Thursday that the first lady would speak at a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools on May 17 at an 8,000-seat arena. Parents attending a school board meeting urged it to reconsider the decision.(snip) "They´ve taken the glory and shine from the children and put on Mrs. Obama. She doesn´t know our kids." Gov. Terry McAuliffe plans to announce today that he will shrink the time violent felons must wait to seek reinstatement of their voting rights and will remove some offenses from that list. The policy slated to take effect April 21 comes on top of years of work to streamline the process, and aims to make the system easier to understand and to allow more felons to petition the state more quickly. In a series of changes to the state´s restoration of rights process, McAuliffe plans to collapse the application waiting period from five to three years for people convicted of violent felonies

The two bombers who killed and maimed innocent people at the Boston marathon a year ago had come as refugees to America, from conflicts that America and her people did nothing to cause. They had been granted the privileges of a law-abiding democracy, including education, health care and the precious freedoms for which Americans have fought in two world wars. Their situation was incomparably better than it would have been, had they stayed behind in Chechnya. Among the many privileges that they enjoyed religious freedom was by no means the least important. They were able to attend their local mosque, to take part in its services and

Anti-Semitic fliers ordering Jews in Donetsk, Ukraine, to “register” with authorities were an elaborate hoax, the region’s chief rabbi said Friday. The Nazi-era-style leaflets — which instructed Jews to register as pro-Russia separatists and declare all property — were likely used as a tool get the international community involved in the battle between Russia and Ukraine, the rabbi told The Guardian.(snip)On Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry denounced the fliers as “grotesque” and the story of their distribution quickly spread, deeply disturbing Jews in the region and all over the world.

Barack Obama got quite the handful on Thursday, April 10, but it was all for a good cause! As the President of the United States was boarding Air Force One with his wife Michelle Obama, a gust of wind blew up her skirt. Barack quickly stepped in and grabbed the First Lady´s billowing skirt to help her avoid a wardrobe malfunction and embarrassing Marilyn Monroe moment. Earlier in the week, another famous lady on the global stage suffered a similar snafu, but no one was around to help her -- not even her prince!

Global warming is not being taken seriously and time is running out to avoid consequences like flooded cities and dried out farmland, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said Thursday. "We are quickly coming to the point where we are not going to be able to keep global warming below two degrees Celsius," Kim said at the start of the IMF-World Bank spring meetings in Washington. "Warming by two degrees Celsius is going to have major implications.... 40 percent of the arable land in Africa will be gone at two degrees Celsius; Bangkok could very well be underwater at two

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter — who used her talk show platform in the last presidential election cycle to campaign hard for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — has taken up the mantra once again, calling on Republicans to give the failed White House bidder another shot in 2016. She made the suggestion during a discussion on Sean Hannity’s radio show while speaking of her new book, “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3-Especially a Republican.” Ms. Coulter also addressed the question of Mr. Romney’s shortcomings by saying that his 2012 loss wasn’t entirely his fault. “I think too much blame, not only in this

Prominent Washington correspondents are accusing President Obama and his aides of knowingly stretching the truth on issues like the so-called women´s pay gap just to create controversy and keep issues -- and the president -- relevant. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote. CBS White House Correspondent Major Garrett then weighed in this week in his National Journal
