Southern Discomfort: U.S. Army seeks
removal of Lee, ‘Stonewall’ Jackson honors

Washington Times, by Rowan Scarborough

The U.S. Army War College, which molds future field generals, has begun discussing whether it should remove its portraits of Confederate generals — including those of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. Nestled in rural Pennsylvania on the 500-acre Carlisle Barracks, the war college is conducting an inventory of all its paintings and photographs with an eye for rehanging them in historical themes to tell a particular Army story. During the inventory, an unidentified official — not the commandant, Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Cucolo III — asked the administration why the college honors two generals who fought against the United States,

Yet another politically correct officer. No doubt he will go on to distinguish himself by showing great sensitivity to the enemy.
Too bad he wasn´t in the US Army during the Civil War. The Confederacy might have won.

Would the generals nickname by any chance be ´Cuckoo´? If he is planning on riling up a whole bunch of Southerners with forefathers who fought honorably for what they believed in, he is on the right track.

By the same token, why not get rid of the official portrait of Zero which hangs in the White House, since he has been fighting against the United States his entire useless life.

Perhaps someone will point out to this excrementitious "unidentified official" that both Lee and Jackson were top graduates of the United States Military Academy. Not that, in all likelihood, that would mean anything to him.

He probably never heard the announcement that was made at that institution on or about April 12, 1861: "The gentlemen of the South will withdraw."

Maj. Gen. Cucolo III is grossly ignorant of the War Between the States. I´m a northern boy through and through, but I understood why those in the south did what they did and I don´t blame them.

Thank you #5. General Lee will always be one of my heroes! And John C. Calhoun. Daughter #2 got accepted at Washington and Lee University and I selfishly wanted her to go there to study more about him. Stonewall Jackson´s pew at the Presbyterian Church in Lexington, VA is still honored.

Most people don´t realize that at one time in our history, the majority of America´s wealth was between Natchez and N´awlins.

From The Patriot Post: In 1860, however, Gen. Lee declined President Abraham Lincoln’s request that he take command of the Army of the Potomac, saying that his first allegiance was to his home state of Virginia: ‘I have, therefore, resigned my commission in the army, and save in defense of my native state… I hope I may never be called on to draw my sword.’

I wonder if the "unidentified official" knows that Lincoln wanted Lee for his own army?

We would be in better shape today if we could still say "The The United States are" rather than "The United States is".

Lee and Jackson fought against the big, central government concept--and I totally agree with that. They were clearly greater warriors than most of the generals we have today, and real Americans.

The Confederacy is part of this country´s heritage.Obama just gave out a slew of medal of something to a bunch of far left agitators and that´s fine,I guess.

Obama has opened a new confederacy state of mind in this country that was well on it´s way of putting the old one behind.

Arlington, what would become the National Cemetary, had been in the family of General Lee´s wife for several generations when it was seized by Lincoln´s administration to become the cemetary for Northern soldiers. That is another interesting part of the General Lee story.

He has a place in American history and should not be removed for PC reasons.

This is an attempt to DIVIDE the country instead of uniting it, and goes completely against the legacy left by Lincoln....malice towards none, charity to all...putting it behind us, and recognizing that we´re a single nation. It´s the same mentality that John Wilkes Booth had but on the other side. Slavery deserved to be crushed but this makes me wretch.

Every year the War College class gives a class present to the War College. Most of the times it is a class print (Painting) of historical importance. Many times it has a Civil War theme because Carlisle is 30 minutes from Gettysburg (Carlisle got attacked right before the battle of Gettysburg). I would venture to say that 40 -50 % of the paintings have a Confederate theme because the Confederates won most of the battles in hte early part of the Civil War. I think this is just a relook at where the paintings should go.

...fought against the United States? Since when was the South not a part of the United States. Their contributions to the Revolutionary War at Savannah, Florida, the Carolinas, and throughout South and the Caribbean didn´t count.

Slavery at the beginning of he Civil War wasn´t even mentioned. It was more than six months after the war began that this became an issue.

This conflict was over economics. The majority of resources, cotton, etc were in the South, but the money for trade was controlled by the North. The South was being bankrupted by the stranglehold the Northern bankers had on trade, depressing the prices of Southern resources going to Europe.

Oh yes, U. S. Grant has been deemed by some as the worst General in history. Take his portrait down? Nah, Can´t do that!

FTA:

“As a soldier, Gen. Lee left his mark on military strategy. As a man, he stood as the symbol of valor and of duty. As an educator, he appealed to reason and learning to achieve understanding and to build a stronger nation. The course he chose after the war became a symbol to all those who had marched with him in the bitter years towards Appomattox.”

Thats why is portrait hangs in the hallways of military institutes, apparently, the "unnamed officer" must have failed history.

Do they know that Lee was so highly regarded even in the north that, after the war, a New York newspaper--New York, mind you--wrote an editorial urging him to run for the presidency of the U.S? Do they understand that Jackson was the greatest field commander in history, whose tactics are studied today?

Disclosure: I despise the northeast and its people. They have done enough damage to the country already. So, i´m not surprised. Let them do it. Over here in the South they are respected and remembered everywhere you go. Visit Lexington, VA if you can and see their graves. General Lee is buried in the Washington Custis Lee crypt and Traveler is by the front door. No matter where you go in the South, you will see their pictures in retail businesses everywhere. Go to Stone Mountain in Georgia where they are carved in stone, and they come alive by a laser show every night.

He will get all sorts of honors (sort of like Øvomit got the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing), and they will name all sorts of awards for him.

BOSTON- Boston´s Irish-American mayor will not march in the city´s St. Patrick´s Day parade on Sunday after failing to hammer out a deal with organizers to allow a group of gay and lesbian activists to march openly. Mayor Marty Walsh had tried to negotiate a deal with organizers, the conservative Allied War Veteran´s Council, to allow members of MassEquality, one of Massachusetts´ largest gay activist groups, to join the parade. "So much of our Irish history has been shaped by the fight against oppression," Walsh, the city´s first Irish-American mayor in 20 years, said in a statement. "As mayor of

Error 404: U.S. officials plan to relinquish federal control over the administration of the Internet to something called the "global Internet community," which is full of tyrants to whom the free flow of information is a threat. In the wake of the NSA surveillance scandal, some might not be inclined to defend federal involvement in anything related to the flow of information between individuals. But the decision announced Friday by the Commerce Department to give up next year its oversight of Icann, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, to the "global Internet community" is a bad idea. One of our planes is missing. That’s basically all we know for certain right now, but more than a week after losing contact with flight MH370, there are a lot of other suggestive bits of information. Unfortunately, a lot of it is, as usual, being reported by news readers who barely understand that you don’t want to keep the pointy end aimed at the ground for an extended time. Here’s some things we do know now. The first indication of trouble was when the transponder stopped responding to radar. This is the point where newspeople are saying it “dropped off the radar,”

The number bounced around for years — 46 million. President Obama said it in August 2009: “I don’t have to explain to you that nearly 46 million Americans don’t have health insurance coverage today. In the wealthiest nation on Earth, 46 million of our fellow citizens have no coverage.” He said it dozens more times, including in June 2013: “We are not a nation that accepts nearly 46 million uninsured men, women and children.” The Obama administration pumped the number with official reports. The White House Council of Economic Advisers said, “Perhaps the most visible sign of the need for health care

When asked if they were still in a relationship at the time of her death, he replied ‘of course’. The designer, 49, was found by her assistant, hanged on a doorknob

They were some of the strangest animals to walk the Earth: wombats as big as hippos, sloths larger than bears, four-tusked elephants, and an armadillo that would have dwarfed a VW Beetle. They flourished for millions of years, then vanished from our planet just as humans emerged from their African homeland. It is one of palaeontology´s most intriguing mysteries and will form the core of a conference at Oxford University this week when delegates will debate whether climate change or human hunters killed off the planet´s lost megafauna, as these extinct giants are known. "Creatures like megatherium, the giant sloth,
