Texas congressmen take aim at
Affordable Care Act’s navigators

Dallas Morning News, by Sherry Jacobson

RICHARDSON — Four Texas congressmen took aim Monday at the federally paid navigators who are helping Texans access insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act. Their criticism came during an unusual “field hearing” by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The hearing focused on required navigator training and the lack of background checks and fingerprinting for those on the job. “There are many problems with the Affordable Care Act, but I don’t think we ever expected it would be this bad,” said committee chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif. The committee’s other member at the hearing, Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Corpus

Pete Sessions is a good guy. I´ve contributed to his campaigns. So is Michael Burgess, who used to be our congressman. He is a doctor. Back when Dick Armey tried to pass his district down to his son, voters rebelled and Dr. Burgess prevailed over the heir to the throne. Blake Farenthold is new and fairly unknown to me. His aunt Sissy Farenthold ran for governor a couple of times (Dem) and was runner-up to Thomas Eagleton as VP nominee to George McGovern. Blake is apparently a good Republicn, however, and good for him.

I came out form the cold and went to this "hearing" where no one could comment or ask questions but the slated participants. (Hope I don´t give up my "secret" (username) identity to 0bama´s roving thought Police). I take Snowden´s claims of spying on US seriously. I believe that Issa began by literally mentioning IRS, Benghazi, NSA, Fast & Furious, so that was a good thing. The group picture used in article was made up of 0bamacare supporters (who sat in the front four rows) wearing green t-shirts with a big gray heart on the back. [I wasn´t offered one, so not in picture, HA!].

A handout showed they were sponsered by AFL-CIO, CWA, Progress*Texas (The Voice of New Majority), Protect YourCare, SEIU Texas, Texas Organizing Project. It´s point was about a happy-looking black man, named Sloan Mitchell, claiming to have been uninsured for two decades. But, as of Jan. 1, 2014, he will have it for him & his son. (He´s a home health care giver). There was no mention of how much he is paying and why not before. The point was "health navigators" were needed for the alleged 6M uninsured in Texas.

Noticeably missing was the head of the Dallas chapter of the Urban League, where many of these jobs locally went. (Why weren´t returning military vets offered these jobs?) No mention of salaries was made even though though their requirements for jobs were utterly useless.

A "navigator" needs only minimal hours on a computer. From this computer, they can take the test till passed, with no ability of supervisor knowing who took it. Government website is run on their unsecured "home" computer with whatever personal information given them. There are statements that fraud and the like will be prosecuted. Like 0bama supporters higher up, this is unlikely, as article shows.

At first they were required to take classes. Now it´s passing a test.

As a side note, community health centers in this state just received another $4.4 million on top of the $8.8 million previously received, not for better medical equipment or care, but for hiring more people to enroll for Ocare.

Waiting for the first enrollee to actually receive medical care. How will a $6,000 to $12,000 deductible help anyone ?

On Tuesday morning, a plane owned in trust by the Bank of Utah showed up in a very visible area of the Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran. What was it doing there exactly? Nobody knows, reports The New York Times. Under President Barack Obama, the United States has eased some of the long-standing punitive economic sanctions against Iran. Still, very little American — or European — economic activity is allowed inside the religious theocracy. The Bank of Utah is certainly no Wells Fargo. The Ogden-based community bank has all of 13 branches including

MOKPO/JINDO, South Korea — Divers searching for survivors of a capsized South Korean ferry saw three bodies floating through a window of a passenger cabin on Saturday but were unable to retrieve them, the coastguard said, hours after the ship´s captain was arrested. The ferry, carrying 476 passengers, many of them schoolchildren, and crew, capsized on Wednesday on a journey from the port of Incheon to the southern holiday island of Jeju. Some 174 people have been rescued and hopes were fading for those still missing. The divers saw the bodies in a submerged cabin where many of the children

With the Chicago weather finally getting a little nicer, Chris Anderssen wanted to grill some burgers outside for a group of family and friends. When she got to the meat aisle at her local Jewel-Osco supermarket, a case of sticker shock made her change the menu: extra lean ground beef was $4.99 a pound. "Five adults, four teenagers, that´s a lot of hamburger to buy," said Anderssen, a 42-year-old mother of two who works as an office manager. She bought chicken instead for $2.99 a pound. Retail beef and pork prices reached all-time highs last month, according to Bill Hahn, agricultural

TOPEKA, Kan. — If expanding the guest list to include Michelle Obama at graduation for high school students in the Kansas capital city means fewer seats for friends and family, some students and their parents would prefer the first lady not attend. A furor over what the Topeka school district considers an honor has erupted after plans were announced for Obama to address a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools next month an 8,000-seat arena. Some advice for Democratic candidates from consultants: Don´t use the word "recovery" in your speeches. Associated Press: Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don´t talk about the economic recovery. It´s a political loser. So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over "how much trouble people are in, and doesn´t convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face." In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word "recovery" is trumped by a Republican assertion

President Obama on Friday signed into law a bill authored by Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz that would bar an Iranian diplomat from entering the United States, but immediately issued a statement saying he won´t enforce it. Obama decided to treat the law as mere advice. "Acts of espionage and terrorism against the United States and our allies are unquestionably problems of the utmost gravity, and I share the Congress´s concern that individuals who have engaged in such activity may use the cover of diplomacy to gain access to our Nation," Obama said in his signing statement.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn.
