Grinch takes air out of
Centerville family´s holiday display

CENTERVILLE — Move over, Dr. Seuss. Like the Whos of the classic Christmas story, the Thompsons on Shootflying Hill Road have been Grinched. For the past eight years the friendly family has erected an elaborate holiday display on its front lawn, wowing neighbors with inflatable characters, a Christmas train and a light show synced to music. When Richard Thompson flipped the switch to power up the extravaganza Sunday morning, however, nothing happened. Somebody had slashed the blow-up Santa, reindeer and sock monkey as well as three blow-up dogs representing the family´s three yellow Labrador retrievers. The wires connecting the lights

Comments:
I know Rick Thompson personally. He is one of the most caring and kindest of men. The community outreach has been fantastic.

Staff has split extra wide headline.

My son live next door to a kind hearted soul who lights up the neighborhood with Christmas characters, lights etc from before Halloween until well after the New Year. If you haven´t had one of these kind hearted souls live right next to you, or on your street, you won´t understand how annoying it can be.

Must have been young democrats. They hate what Christmas stands for.
We have neighbors who "light up the neighborhood", but we don´t mind. We just pull the shades if it bothers us (it doesn´t), and go on with our lives. Hey, it´s going to be dark inside that coffin, so I´ll enjoy the lights and sounds while I still can. (I wonder if the light from the sun annoys some people, too?)

It´s hard to say what´s going on here. It could be vandals just being vandals. There certainly enough people out there who hate anything to do with Christmas or anything that makes other people happy.

Or, like #1 pointed out, it´s not always fun for the neighbors when someone does this. Those houses seem close together, so everyone has to listen to the music and see the lights. It´s one thing to drive by and enjoy when you want. But it´s another thing when you listen to the same song for the 10,000th time and have no way of making it stop.

Whatever the reason, there´s no excuse for vandalism. I´m glad the neighbors are chipping in to help replace the stolen items.

What struck me most in the story was the quote by Mr. Thompson, "It wasn´t offending anyone. It wasn´t a religious display. It was just fun stuff."

We live in a society that is unapologetic about Miley Cyrus "twerking" on a television show meant for all ages, but a kind man has to qualify that his display was not offensive because it was not religious.

Woe to those that call good evil, and evil good.

People have no boundaries today. Many do damage to other´s property and store merchandise for the fun of it without any regard to the cost. Raised by wolves.

Yes, Katherine Clark, there really is a war on women, but it’s not the fantasy you’ve been spinning out on the campaign trail. The real war on women is being prosecuted by misogynist Democrat hacks attacking and harassing women and getting away with it because they’re in a protected class — moonbats.Let’s run down this year’s list of Democratic warriors against women — Elliot (“Client No. 9”) Spitzer, Carlos Danger, ex-San Diego mayor Bob Filner, Martin Bashir, New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, not to mention a bunch of lesser-known New York Democratic ward heelers who’ve been smashing glasses in their girlfriends’ faces, demanding their staffers don’t wear panties, etc.

For most of us, an encounter with a knife-wielding would-be robber would leave us anything but calm. Shannon “Bear” Cothran, on the other hand, is utterly unperturbed. Unperturbed and, alas, unemployed. Cothran, 29, was working the overnight shift at the Shell gas station and convenience store in Nashua on Sunday when the armed robber rushed in, came behind the counter, flashed the knife and said, “Give me the money or I’ll kill you!” Bear calmly pulled out his Ruger LCP .380 and suggested the gentleman might want to pursue other options. He did.Just hours later, Cothran was fired from a job he’d held for

Journalism scolds and other insensitive cranks are dismissing the public’s “overreaction” to Rolling Stone giving Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the rock star treatment on its August cover, as if this is a simple First Amendment issue. Of course the magazine has the right to illustrate its story on Tsarnaev any way it pleases, including carefully choosing the photo and its cover treatment so as to make his groupies — yes, they exist, we saw them at the courthouse last week — swoon.

A photo of a Massachusetts woman flashing her middle finger at Arlington National Cemetery has sparked widespread disgust across the web and prompted an online petition to get the woman fired from her job. Lindsey Stone posted the picture of herself making the obscene gesture at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, next to a sign at the military cemetery that asks for ´Silence and Respect,´ in October and the snapshot quickly went viral.

The words came out of my mouth before I could stop them. “I feel sorry for Obama,” I said. As my wife looked at me in disbelief, I quickly added a correction. “Well, almost.” Beset by failures at home and abroad, the president cuts a lonely and sad figure these days. His aura of grief reflects his profound loss. His worldview crashed headlong into reality, and reality won. Obamaism is dead, may it rest in peace. That’s sad for him, but hold the tears — his loss is mankind’s hope. If Obama wakes from his utopian visions and faces the

Secretary of State John Kerry called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday morning to protest insults the Israeli defense minister directed at the Obama administration this week, the State Department said. In a speech at Tel Aviv University on Monday, Moshe Ya’alon criticized President Obama for having a weak foreign policy, and said Israel could no longer rely on the United States to lead nuclear negotiations with Iran. “Secretary Kerry spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning. And he protested to him his concerns about these comments,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Wednesday. The U.S., Psaki reaffirmed, maintains an “unshakable

With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stalled by the “Bridgegate” affair, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has become the establishment´s candidate and top pick to win the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, according to a new analysis of the race. “We now consider Bush the leader of the field if he decides to run,” said the influential “Crystal Ball” from the University of Virginia´s Center for Politics. “In recent months, we’ve noticed an unmistakable and widespread desire among some of the Republicans we talk to, particularly ones who would be classified as members of the establishment on and off Capitol Hill, for a third Bush nominee in less than three decades.

Has President Obama´s impunity come to an end? After five years of his flouting the letter and spirit of the law in an increasingly brazen fashion, congressional Republicans have been starting to ramp up their rhetoric about Obama´s lawlessness, their most concerted effort on the issue to date. Several new reports from top Republicans underscore the breadth of Obama´s executive overreach. Viewed comprehensively, it involves laws ranging from healthcare to immigration to privacy to technology to social issues to national security matters and more. "Michelle Obama’s trip to China starting on Wednesday will be nonpolitical, the White House says, a ´people-to-people exchange´ emphasizing the importance that both nations place on education. As if to underscore the point, no reporters are traveling with the first lady, and she does not plan to give interviews while there," reports the New York Times. Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration. The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. The sticker shock would likely bolster the GOP’s prospects in November and hamper ObamaCare insurance enrollment efforts in 2015. The industry complaints come less than a week after Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplay concerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector. She told lawmakers rates would increase in 2015 but

Government officials now admit the data system and transponder quit communicating after the pilots said things were OK. That means they didn’t lie. The official Malaysian account of the last contacts made to and received by Flight MH370 is unraveling. As it does, the sinister interpretations of what happened in the cockpit of the Boeing 777 become less persuasive. We return to the all-important timeline. Originally, the Malaysians said that the last words from the cockpit—from the copilot, “All right, good night”—were spoken to air traffic controllers as the airplane left Malaysian air space at 1:30am. This week, that timing was significantly changed
