Are too many kids taking
antipsychotic drugs?

The number of children taking powerful antipsychotic drugs has nearly tripled over the last 10 to 15 years, according to recent research. The increase comes not because of an epidemic of schizophrenia or other forms of serious mental illness in children, but because doctors are increasingly prescribing the drugs to treat behavior problems, a use not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). And a disproportionate number of those prescriptions are written for poor and minority children, some as young as age 2. Doctors are prescribing antipsychotics even though there’s minimal evidence that the drugs help kids for approved

So spanking a child to correct bad behavior is child abuse, but putting the child on antipsychotic drugs is perfectly OK. Brilliant.

Schools can´t discipline and parents won´t discipline, so the recourse is to start popping pills.

Growing up in these neurotic times we live in probably calls for a lot of anti-depressants... at least for the parents.

Actually this has become a below the radar racket for minorities to get their kids on disability. It´s probably why claims are skyrocketing. Most of these kids need pills because they live in basket case households and are locked in the rooms half the time.Of course the mom uses the extra money to make SUV payments.

#3 the "schools" don´t want to discipline. But they are very active in labeling 6 year olds sex predators or boys playing cops and robbers with "finger guns". What do you mean schools can´t discipline? The education "thugs" selectively discipline.

How many kids are prescribed drugs they don´t need, their mothers get an SSI check for the kid´s disability, and then sell the kids meds for cash on the street?

They are starting kids in preschool and first grade on Ritalin to control their behavior and then they go on to stronger meds later. The school drs. should be fired. I´m convinced that´s why we have these mentally unstable kids shooting up schools, etc.

I have thought for a very long time that our kids are being over medicated. We have a whole generation of kids on these drugs that have been on them since they were in elementary school and we will see he consequences of this sooner rather than later. You can´t give kids all these behavior controlling meds as children and expect their brains to develop normally.

MINNEAPOLIS — Even as President Obama and progressive activists are trying to sell the nation on hiking the national minimum wage to help restaurant workers and other low-wage employees, the Internal Revenue Service is seemingly determined to make life harder for those same workers. A change in tax policy implemented Jan. 1 will prevent restaurant workers from collecting automatic gratuities — the added 18 percent fee many restaurants charge to groups of eight or more — as part of their tips. Instead, that added fee will be included in their payroll, meaning workers have to wait up to two weeks

This week Obamacare passed an unflattering milestone. As of today, the Obama administration has spent longer botching the implementation of Obamacare than the Roosevelt and Truman administrations spent fighting and winning the Second World War. America’s involvement in World War II began on December 7, 1941, with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It ended 1,365 days later on September 2, 1945, with the surrender ceremony aboard the U.S.S. Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay. President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010. Today, December 18, 2013, marks the 1,366th day of post-enactment Obamacare implementation.

Used in rockets and in battery-like fuel cells, hydrogen is being widely researched as a non-polluting fuel, but its use is so far hampered by high costs. A few hydrogen vehicles are already on the roads, such as the Honda FXC Clarity and Mercedes-Benz F-Cell, and more are planned. The Obama administration quietly finalized the Health Insurance Tax (HIT) over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a provision in Obamacare that will cost nearly $60 billion over the next five years and raise health care premiums by 3 percent. The final rule, published on Nov. 27, imposes a fee beginning in 2014 for health insurers with premium revenues over $25 million per year. The annual tax is levied for “United States health risks,” and is hidden from consumers since it is directly assessed on health insurance companies. David R. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent.
