What happened to Lady Gaga?
New York Post, by Maureen Callahan

It’s already known as ARTFLOP. On Nov. 6, amid the kind of hype not seen since Michael Jackson floated a statue of himself down the Thames River, Lady Gaga released her third studio album, “ARTPOP.” And not since Jackson has such a globally famous, white-hot pop star had such a rise and precipitous fall: “ARTPOP” is on track to lose $25 million for her label, Interscope, prompting rumors of imminent layoffs. But it’s not just album sales. When Gaga opened this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, her performance was eclipsed by the twerking Miley Cyrus. Gaga’s work as both host and performer on

As I´ve said, there comes a point where someone can go just so far and no farther, then his or her "act" wears thin and disappears. Lady Gaga will do her an upcoming show completely nude and move up again in popularity until that, too, wears thin quickly, then she´ll have sex on stage, then she´ll disappear for good.

Madonna is too old. Gaga is too weird. Miley Cyrus is too gross. Who will pop up next on the checkout line magazines at the supermarket?

This article contained more scheisse in it than a sixteen wheeler full of guano, as it praised Gaga and talked about how this brilliant, revolutionary “artiste” has lost her way while, in reality, her highly praised “art” is just garbage, a puffed up (puffed up by pretentious, artsy-fartsy articles like this) crap soufflé that has now deflated and gone cold.

I didn´t know who she was until a year ago. Had heard the name of course. Just another pop tart of limited talent. There are thousands of singers just as good or better but I guess you don´t stand out unless you can do something outrageous to bring attention to yourself.

Then, when you become a big success you think you are invincible and the smartest person in the world...sort of like our current President.

FTA: She had an invented backstory as an art-school freak (in reality, she was a rich private-school graduate from the Upper West Side)....

Isn´t this the Age of the Phony Backstory, the Era of Hype, the Day of Proud Misfits and Freaks? Gaga, whose odd behavior doesn´t suggest that she´s a lady, has been a successful self-marketer. As the article says, her first album was interesting. She has some musical talent, but stretching that shallow skill set into pop music superstar status requires quite a bit of elasticity, something LG doesn´t seem to have.

The label Interscope, which got its start promoting gangsta rap, must have promoted LG´s Artplop to death if they´re set to shed $25,000,000 because of it. That´ll teach ´em.

David Crosby, musing on success in the popular music industry, said that most artists´ first albums represent as much as ten years of pent up creativity. You learn how much talent the artist really has when she releases her second album. Weirdness alone isn´t enough to sustain LG. Neither is outrageousness. Madonna beat that particular horse to death a couple of decades ago.

When Madonna, who might never actually have been a virgin despite the authentic first name, started running creatively dry, she published her coffee table book of nude, nuder, nudest, and (probably) internal gynecological shots so her fans would know every inch of her. She was also the star of her own explicit home movie, taken with a beefcake backup boy singer. Speaking as a normal straight guy, I never found her especailly attractive, whether in or out of clothes. Gaga is a couple of pegs down from Madonna on the Scale of Hottidity. When will she stop that grinnin´ and drop that linen?

In reality, one can look at crash victims only so long.

I saw one clip of her singing with Tony Bennett for an album of old classics, and she was good, she really can sing. But unfortunately that is not what she likes, or so it seems.

As for me, i prefer classical music vocalists and Blues. Pop singers just don´t interest me.

Again, she has made herself into a caricature, an object, a wreck; who wants to waste time gazing into that abyss?
