Iran said on Saturday that it had safely returned a monkey to Earth after blasting it into space in the second such launch this year in its controversial ballistic programme. President Hassan Rouhani congratulated the scientists involved in the mission, in a message carried by the official IRNA news agency. The report added that the rocket reached a height of 120 kilometres (75 miles). In January, Iran said it had successfully brought a live monkey, which it named Pishgam (Pioneer), back to Earth from orbit. But the experiment´s success was disputed, when a different monkey was presented to the media after the landing. An earlier

Dear Poster scottyboy - I will be sending you, via the wonderful staff of our beloved Ms. Lucianne, the dry-cleaning bill for my formally immaculate and crisply pressed white dress-shirt.

I blew my mouthful of 2006 Merlot across the room upon reading just the Headline of your post.

May I respectfully suggest to Ms. Lucianne (and the great staff) that a warning be given to loyal readers if the words "Iran and Space Monkeys" are to be included in the headlines of the following post.

In a speech to the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights at Georgetown University Law Center, Holder said it is "time to fundamentally re-think laws that permanently disenfranchise people who are no longer under federal or state supervision.´´ "These restrictions are not only unnecessary and unjust, they are also counter-productive,´´ the attorney general said in prepared remarks. Washington – Continuing his push to use executive powers as a way of advancing his agenda, President Barack Obama will announce Thursday a new effort to help improve the lives of young African-American males. A White House official said the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative would partner government with businesses to “make sure that every young man of color who is willing to work hard and lift himself up has an opportunity to get ahead and reach his full potential.” Young African-American men are unemployed at a higher rate than the population at large, and are more likely than peers of other races

Barack Obama was once a constitutional law professor, but now views the founding document as irrelevant. The president is ruling by decree, instead of working with a divided Congress. The Founding Fathers would be appalled by the way the current occupant of the White House has usurped power to get his agenda passed. There is nothing to restrain Mr. Obama, now a lame duck, from forcing his liberalism on America. For example, the White House declared Wednesday that it will not go through Congress to create regional “climate hubs” to deal with the supposed crisis of “climate change.” This comes

AS celebrity gossip goes, it takes some beating: actress and model Elizabeth Hurley has a year-long affair with Bill Clinton while he was US president. Throw in the suggestion that they had a liaison in the White House while Hillary Clinton was next door, and that Mr Clinton ended it when he realised he was falling in love, and you have a story that rivals Marilyn Monroe´s alleged fling with John F Kennedy. But when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, as Ms Hurley pointed out yesterday when she was forced to deny the "ludicrously silly" report

President Obama´s chemical weapons deal with Syria has “improved” Syrian President Bashar Assad´s position, Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged Wednesday. Kerry´s admission comes after Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Congress last week the deal “adds legitimacy” to the Assad regime, even as it has the potential to eliminate a threat to the U.S. The deal is coming under fire, after Syria blew crucial deadlines in recent weeks, turning over only about 5 percent of its arsenal. WASHINGTON -- A poll indicated Wednesday that if former U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton runs for president her biggest challenge could come from a more conservative Democrat. While the poll, conducted by CNN, finds Clinton an overwhelming favorite with 70 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independent voters saying they would support her if she mounts a second presidential bid in 2016, the split on the remaining Democrats is surprising. Conventional wisdom has held Clinton´s biggest liability in a potential primary is from the liberal wing of the party, where President Barack Obama found support to defeat her in their historic 2008 primary race. Americans watching the Affordable Care Act’s implementation are witnessing a government policy debacle that is as large as any in memory. It is hard to imagine a more vivid demonstration of the ruinous consequences of government stepping into a market in which it doesn’t belong. And, sadly, what we are seeing now is only the beginning of the policy’s failure. In its most updated assessment of the ACA, the government’s own Congressional Budget Office caught the Democrats flat-footed by projecting that the law is severely flawed on a number of fronts, matching in many ways what the ACA opponents clearly

Once again, bitter feelings are being cast in the direction of Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz. With the House passing the “clean” debt ceiling bill and sending it to the Democratic-controlled Senate, it was clear that this particular bill was going to be passed and sent to the president for his signature. But Cruz didn´t want to let Senate Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., off the hook and give President Obama a blank check to once again increase the debt ceiling as we are drowning in red ink. He didn't want Republicans to simply vote against the bill, hiding behind the Democrat majority who were sure to pass it.
