GOP hopes taking shutdown
off the table with budget
deal will pay dividends

Washington Times, by Seth McLaughlin

By clearing the decks of the bipartisan budget deal, some political observers say, the GOP establishment is banking on the idea that giving up ground in the spending battle now will pay off over the long run by allowing Republicans to avoid getting punished for another government shutdown. According to this scenario, if there’s no government shutdown, Republicans can focus on the 2014 congressional elections and bank on the growing opposition to Obamacare to strengthen their numbers on Capitol Hill. In the best case, they could add the Senate to their control of the House and be in a better

I think we had the shutdown a little too soon and now Boehner and his gang are gun shy, but I lay odds the majority of Americans would support it now if it refunded Obamacare.

Geesh... Boehner is now throwing in the White Flag before we get to read a bill to see what surrender terms he has agreed to along with Ryan. Why doesn´t he just go sit on the other side of the aisle where he belongs.

The history of the GOP since FDR is one of continuous retreat punctuated by occasional surrender. At least Democrats operate under a principle - that any principle can be compromised in the pursuit of totalitarian socialism.

How can the GOP, at this point, not understand that it will be "blamed" no matter what happens? If the GOP suddenly cured cancer and eliminated world hunger, the loathsome MSM (in collusion with the White House) would paint the achievements as satanic horrors motivated by greed and racism. How can the GOP not know this by now?!

Each time the GOP thinks it is dodging bullets by being "bipartisan" and "cooperating" with the socialists, the socialists only laugh harder at how easily the cowards are intimidated.

I think Boehner is the number one reason for the republican´s overall poor image and not because of the cave ins. He´s just a terrible personality to be the face of the party. But as long as republican establishment supporters stick with him, they can put down a mutiny among the party.

The left doesn´t take Boehner seriously as an opposition leader,so why should voters? I´ll bet there´s a component of his budget that was a message to tea party types, not to mettle in government´s go along to get along way of doing business.

I also think part of the GOP´s downfall started when DeMint went to Heritage. Heritage used to be a very reliable think tank for republicans but DeMint is a right wing Utopianist pushing policies that even most conservatives can´t comprehend. For example a balanced budget amendment which would have no chance to get out of DC.let alone get 2/3 across the country.Even if it did pass, there would be loopholes for "emergency spending"

Part of winning people over is salesmanship and the GOP is seriously lacking in it.

The only "dividends" Boehner and the Republican Establishment are concerned with are campaign contributions and payoffs from K Street and their corporate benefactors.

Think on this logic for a moment:
They have just surrendered a battle that they were forced to win so they can talk about one they have already lost.

Lets face facts folks. The Republican Establishment has had to try pretty damn hard to be this inept and clueless for this long and not have learned a thing or they have all along been engaged in a concerted effort with the democrats to spend tax payer money

Either way, the taxpayer loses.

I really enjoyed the spectacle of Boehner´s Jim Mora moment. That was a smartass clever act.
What is Boehner? French or something?
This bronze turkey is in the wrong party and there will be some RINOs who will get surprised in 2014. The RINOs might keep some seats but Tea Party candidates might outnumber them to move right again. Ted Cruz might just be the ´Whip´.

Mockery greets Obama’s new

President Obama on Monday slapped Russia with the kinds of economic sanctions not seen since the Cold War, but the administration’s supposed hard line was met with mockery and a “collective shrug” in Moscow, Kiev and Washington. One day after Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine and join Russia, the White House and its partners in the European Union responded by targeting high-ranking officials in Moscow along with pro-Russian figures responsible for the unrest in Ukraine. The move adds even more tension to a dramatic standoff between Russia and the West, but early signs suggest the latest round of

Hillary Clinton may well be the most "known" politician in the world. She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been on the national stage for more than two decades -- traveling from Arkansas to the White House to the Senate to the 2008 campaign trail and finally to the State Department. During that time, every look and utterance from Hillary has been examined, then examined again, then analyzed, then overanalyzed. That´s why this series of photos -- shot by LIFE magazine in 1969 as part of a feature on outstanding college students -- is so fascinating. It captures

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The search for Malaysia’s missing airliner pushed on Monday across a vast spread of the Indian Ocean into the waters off western Australia as officials here contradicted earlier information that pointed to a planned takeover in the cockpit. The government had previously said that a key satellite communications system had been disabled sometime before the cockpit made final radio contact with air-traffic control — and before Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared from civilian radar contact on March 8 with 239 passengers and crew members on board. That sequence of events suggested that something suspicious was underway

Listlessness is bad politics. Defensiveness is poor strategy. And resignation is never inspiring. You can feel elements of all three descending around President Obama as he fends off attack after attack from his conservative foes, who vary the subject depending on the day, the circumstance and the opportunity. This sense of drift inspired an explosion over the weekend of disparaging commentary (some of it coming, usually anonymously, from Democrats) about the president’s political infirmities. Obama and his party are in danger of allowing the Republicans to set the terms of the 2014 elections, just as they did four years ago.

There is growing panic among Democrats in Congress about the 2014 elections, and it is based on numerous factors that give them serious anxiety. In the Senate, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire just found out that she will be challenged by former Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, who has received $600,000 from the Super-Pac American Crossroads, and Democrat Senator Mark Udall of Colorado is now being challenged by Rep. Cory Gardner, a serious threat. In the House, the GOP just won a significant victory in a special election in Florida’s 13th district, which Barack Obama won decisively in 2012.

Someone who is determined to disbelieve something can manage to disregard an Everest of evidence for it. So Barack Obama will not temper his enthusiasm for increased equality with lucidity about the government’s role in exacerbating inequality. In the movie “Animal House,” Otter, incensed by the expulsion of his fraternity, says: “I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture.” Such thinking gives us minimum-wage increases that do very little for very few. A week into the fruitless search for a missing Malaysian airliner, the focus returned to the possibility that a rogue pilot or hijackers took command of the plane as it flew north over the sea toward Beijing. By now it’s settled on most people, including Democrats, that the loss of Alex Sink to David Jolly in Florida’s 13th Congressional District was, in the words of the New York Times, “devastating” to Democrats. It’s a district Ms. Sink carried in her unsuccessful race for governor against Rick Scott, a district that Barack Obama carried in his two elections, and a district that demographically now favors Democrats. In addition, Ms. Sink raised more money and ran a better campaign than Jolly. Even Bill Clinton lent his efforts to her campaign. And yet she lost. What should particularly alarm Democrats is

One of our planes is missing. That’s basically all we know for certain right now, but more than a week after losing contact with flight MH370, there are a lot of other suggestive bits of information. Unfortunately, a lot of it is, as usual, being reported by news readers who barely understand that you don’t want to keep the pointy end aimed at the ground for an extended time. Here’s some things we do know now. The first indication of trouble was when the transponder stopped responding to radar. This is the point where newspeople are saying it “dropped off the radar,”
