Has John Boehner Learned His Lesson?
Commentary Magazine, by Jonathan S. Tobin

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 12/12/2013 4:42:43 PM

It was a short sound bite but it was replayed endlessly yesterday, angering some conservatives and leaving liberals chortling. When House Speaker John Boehner was asked during a press conference with other Republican leaders about criticisms from conservative activist groups of the budget deal struck by Budget Committee Chair Paul Ryan, he exploded: REPORTER: Mr. Speaking, most major conservative groups have put out statements blasting this deal. Are you – BOEHNER: You mean the groups that came out and opposed it before they ever saw it? REPORTER: Are you worried – BOEHNER: They are using our members and they are using the American people

Boehner is Bob Michel redux. Pathetic, weak and destined to lose. America can do a whole lot better than the reincarnation of Tammy Fay.

A House leader´s job is to coordinate, strategize, vote count and do the best he or she can with recalcitrant troops when they exist. A House leader´s job is not to lie down so the recalcitrants can roll over him more easily. Nor is it a House leader´s job to support the suicidal. I suspect Boehner is doing about as good a job as anyone could in these tumultuous times. He is not helped by Jim DeMint´s efforts to dictate policy from the outside. DeMint is raising money off the trouble he causes.

John Boehner has done a magnificent job waving the white flag for the GOP, instead of using his majority to benefit our country which faces so many serious problems. He is a total disappointment and I think there are others who could have done much better.

#2, I have an 8 year old grandchild that could do better than Boehner. Boehner will not use the power the US Constitution gives the House, regarding spending. He is set in the DC way of doing things, and he needs to retire, for the good of our Nation.

So, Boehner and the house couldn´t even hold on to the sequester for 2 years before surrendering it, but we are supposed to believe that tax cut will (cross my heart and hope to die) 10 years from now ?
Boehner wants to de-legitimize the TEA party and conseratives, he wants us gone before he pushes amnesty.

It is unbelievable that Jonathan Tobin thinks 17 trillion dollars in debt is simply a "manufactured crises". Boomtown blindness is as serious as the Liberalism is a Mental Disorder syndrome.

Looks like one of Boehner´s staffers has got her panties in a knot. I love the righteous indignation followed up with good old foot stomping snit complaining of hard times and hard deals that dear Johnny had not only a hand in creating, but took the lead in designing the concocted disaster in the first place.

Apparently the Republican Establishment cheerleader squad thinks that if they just yell a little louder us hayseeds will forget history and mathematics, realize to stop paying attention, and just shut up and vote Republican because they said so.

White House: The ´77 cents´ wage gap figure

Washington Examiner [DC], by Ashe Schow    Original Article

A White House adviser had to walk back the oft-repeated myth that women make 77 cents on the dollar that men make after being questioned about the figure during a conference call Monday. While detailing executive actions President Obama plans to take Tuesday regarding equal pay for women, Betsey Stevenson, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said very defiantly that despite women contributing 44 percent of their household incomes, they continue to make less than men. Obama has declared Tuesday "Equal Pay Day" to highlight his administration´s focus on that issue. “They’re stuck at 77 cents on the

Earlier Today I reported that health insurance premiums are showing the sharpest increases perhaps ever according to a survey of brokers who sell coverage in the individual and small group market. Morgan Stanley’s healthcare analysts conducted the proprietary survey of 148 brokers. The April survey shows the largest acceleration in small and individual group rates (for renewing health plans) in any of the 12 prior quarterly periods when the regular analysis has been conducted. The average increases for the present quarter are in excess of 11% in the small group market and 12% in the individual market, where consumers purchase

Paralyzed Patients Move Again

For people who become paralyzed after a spinal cord injury, the condition is usually permanent, but a new study suggests that zapping the spine with electricity during physical training could help paralyzed patients regain movement. Researchers applied electrical stimulation to the spines of four people who had been paralyzed for more than two years. All four patients were able to flex their toes, ankles and knees again, and their movements improved further with physical rehabilitation, the research showed. If proven effective in more people, the stimulation therapy could ultimately change the prognosis for people living with paralysis, researchers say.

Last week, continuing the sometimes catty intraparty feud between Republican hawks and GOPers skeptical of foreign intervention, former Vice President Dick Cheney took a shot at Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). But Paul is not likely to be fazed by criticism from Cheney, for several years ago the Kentucky senator was pushing the conspiratorial notion that the former VP exploited the horrific 9/11 attacks to lead the nation into war in Iraq in order to benefit Halliburton, the enormous military contractor where Cheney had once been CEO. It will be weeks before the final results of Afghanistan’s presidential election, held Saturday, are announced. And the winner won’t take office until June. Nevertheless, the voting, the third of its kind since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, has already provided a new and exciting political snapshot of a country emerging from four decades of turmoil. The first feature of this snapshot is that a majority of Afghans have adopted elections as the best means of choosing and changing governments. On Saturday, more than 7 million went to the polls — almost 60 percent of registered voters — a

If the pings reported by the Chinese and Australians turn out to be from Malaysia Flight 370´s data recorders, we may be on the road to finding the plane and solving the mystery of its disappearance. But even if that is the case, we´ll need to resolve a larger issue: Incomprehensible as it might seem to the flying public, it is almost equally perplexing to airline pilots that a 650,000 pound airplane can disappear with barely a trace. Considering that the 777 is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded airliners in the world, it doesn´t make sense. Nor

Former presidential adviser Karl Rove may be a lightning rod for some conservative complaints these days, but his March 27 column in the Wall Street Journal sounded the right notes for everybody on the right side of the political spectrum. Entitled “The New Republican Reformers,” Rove’s column highlighted the central truth that Republicans and conservatives usually do well when they are seen not just as obstructionists, but as practical problem-solvers. I saw this firsthand last year when I ran in a special election for Congress — in which whatever else went wrong (I finished fourth in an unexpectedly foreshortened nine-way primary, eventually

On a Moscow train platform, two men smoke and swap rumors in the frozen evening air. “I hear they´ve raised the Russian flag in Donetsk?” one says. “I hear Crimea, too.” So reports freelance journalist Noah Sneider in Slate. As Russian troops hoisted their flag over Crimea, President Obama´s highly touted “reset” diplomacy crashed and burned. The Russian reset was to have been the crown jewel of Mr. Obama´s statecraft, the start of a new era in which Washington and Moscow worked together to solve the world´s problems. That naïve dream burst when Vladimir Putin ordered his tanks to roll.

It has been also 50 years since the Kremlin started an intense, worldwide disinformation operation, codenamed “Dragon,” aimed at diverting attention away from the KGB’s connection with Lee Harvey Oswald. Not unrelated are the facts that Oswald was an American Marine who defected to Moscow, returned to the United States three years later with a Russian wife, killed President Kennedy, and was arrested before

Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican.
