Barack Obama takes selfie at
Nelson Mandela memorial

Sydney Morning Herald [AU]*, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 12/10/2013 7:35:41 PM

US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place

Photo has gone viral - and other mirth-filled photos of the juveniles accompany this article. Her Moochness was very obviously not amused - and for once she was right. But was it the selfie-taking or the attractive blonde?

This story is posted on the Yahoo main page and it has gotten so many comments- some are saying about as much as the Sandy Hook killings. Anyway, I decided to peruse the comments. Almost all that I looked through, and that certainly was not the over 100K comments that have been made, but probably over 1K, were unhappy with the selfie and general behavior of Obama at the funeral. What was interesing to me was how many Obama voters were very unhappy with the behavior. For those who do not pay attention to the news, a photo like this is something that just seems to crystallize an image to people= and it is not a positive image. So many commented how they would be angry if their teens did this and can´t believe the President traveled out of our Country to do this on the world stage. I don´t mean that they think the photos are fake, I mean it has blown their previous ideas about the man.

So, he lowers himself to their level, and acquiesces....

You all just don´t unnerstand. It WAS all about him, wasn´t it....

Other photos are over on Drudge. First, the stadium was mostly empty, secondly, it was not a class reunion, and third, it was a freakin´ funeral for a terrorist! Thank God, the SEALs deep-sixed OBL.

The good thing was that with the time difference, it was easy to miss it. It appears the Bushes and Michelle were the only adults in attendance.

Photographic evidence in support of the case that the world now looks to Russia and China for leadership. England has not been in a global leadership position for 100 years...Denmark has not mattered since the heyday of the Hanseatic League, and the US began to paint themselves into this self-portrait by selecting Obama as their President. Another signpost on the road to serfdom.

Jarrett would never correct him. He can cut her off. He can´t divorce Michelle without risk loss of support among Black voters, many of whom see him more as a son-in-law rather than a full member in the African American family.

Google a gallery of Obama Schmidt pictures and you will see that quite an exchange of laughs, touches and even a kiss (probably occurred before they all sat down together) transpires between Zero and the Denmark PM.

However, no one has mentioned that Valerie Jarrett turns up in one picture just prior to Zero moving to the left side of Michelle. That is the only time she is sitting behind the One. I believe she told him to move his hound dogness to the other side of Michelle and then leaves. Holder and Rice were already sitting behind Zero.

Also, there is a picture of Zero kissing a smirking Michelle´s hand after he relocates.

There is nothing even remotely amusing about this incident since it caps Zero´s mission of knocking down the United States as the world´s greatest superpower. The picture says it all, what an entire joke this president and this country have become. Despite his supposed ivy league education, this man has to be the dumbest and most classless elected official this country has ever had. And to think we have another three years of this joker. Well, he was, after all, nominated in 2008 at Mile High Stadium. Maybe there was some symbolism there that we failed to appreciate at the time. The man does have goofy lapses of sensitivity and good judgment. Playing golf while the Seals were on final approach to Bin Laden´s hideout was more than strange. Talking through a funeral service and taking selfies sounds positively spacey.

The memorial service turned into something that was a cross between a hero worship service and a party.

The left has to have their heroes. They do not believe in God, but elevate their heroes to godlike status.

Take a selfie as a momento of attendence. It was more than a memorial. It was an ´event´. The selfie was an ´I was there´ moment. They could have handed out t-shirts.

Our national disease, Obama, never fails to deliver. But there is much to like here.

1) The Prime Minister of Denmark (again this year´s happiest country in the world) seems, once again, to be "punching above her weight" (http://youtu.be/erYpXzE9Pxs).
2) With ValJar sitting directly behind and Moochelle popping a moue on his left, might this have been staged to ´prove´ that bath house Barry really likes chicks...especially blonde white chicks.
3) This classless buffoon (thanx #18, i like your term almost as much as the Latin term of #27) is showing us -- and the world -- the new definition of "decorum."

But best of all, Obama, on his way to deliver his standard "all about me" speech disguised as a eulogy, paused to bow and shake hands with a Cuban dictator.

Shortly thereafter, a real American (whose history is known), Ted Cruz, walked out on the speech of that same dictator.

OK, can we please stop pretending biofuel made from corn is helping the planet and the environment? With huge subsidies for ethanol in gasoline, with all States now selling gasoline having some ethanol blend, and a general misconception that these biofuels are green, corn ethanol has taken on a $30 billion/yr life of its own. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released two of its Working Group reports at the end of last month (WGI and WGIII), and their short discussion of biofuels has ignited a fierce debate as to whether they’re of any environmental benefit at all.

JACKSON, Wyo. – A slow-motion disaster continued unfolding in the Wyoming resort town of Jackson on Saturday, as a creeping landslide that split a hillside home threatened to swallow up more houses and businesses. The ground beneath the 100-foot hillside had been slowly giving way for almost two weeks before the downward movement accelerated in recent days. With rocks and dirt tumbling down, officials suspended efforts to shore up the slope and said they were uncertain what else could be done. "When is it going to go? How long is it going to last? These are the questions we just

AUSTIN — Documents related to Sen. Wendy Davis’ work as a lawyer for the North Texas Tollway Authority are part of an FBI inquiry of the agency, Travis County officials say. It’s not clear whether Davis’ work for the tollway authority is a focus of the FBI or only part of the material collected in connection with its look into tollway agency operations. The Travis County district attorney’s office said last month that details from its review of a 2012 complaint that a rival filed about Davis’ legal and political activities were “the subject of an open investigation” by the

Jindo, South Korea -- A passenger describes women screaming in the darkness. A father learns his child is trapped. A son, fearing death, tells his mother he loves her. Investigators haven´t said what caused a South Korean ferry boat carrying hundreds of passengers to capsize on Wednesday. But as rescuers searched frigid waters for nearly 300 missing people, text messages purporting to be from missing passengers surfaced, describing the harrowing moments after the ferry started to roll.(Snip) On Thursday, the semi-official Yonhap News Agency reported that police now believe the messages supposedly sent after the ferry sank were fake.

KUALA LUMPUR: A CREW member of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 made a desperate call from his mobile phone as the plane was flying low near Penang, the morning it went missing. The latest breakthrough in the ongoing criminal investigation traced the source of the call to co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid´s phone. (Snip) They are investigating the case under Section 130C of the Penal Code, which deals with hijacking, terrorism and sabotage offences, as well as the Security Offences (Special Measures) and Aviation Offences Acts. On why these findings were not made known, the sources said, like criminal investigations by any police

Obama Lets N.S.A. Exploit

WASHINGTON — Stepping into a heated debate within the nation’s intelligence agencies, President Obama has decided that when the National Security Agency discovers major flaws in Internet security, it should — in most circumstances — reveal them to assure that they will be fixed, rather than keep mum so that the flaws can be used in espionage or cyberattacks, senior administration officials said Saturday. But Mr. Obama carved a broad exception for “a clear national security or law enforcement need,” the officials said, a loophole that is likely to allow the N.S.A. to continue to exploit security flaws both to crack

As he moves from lobbyists to the golf course, from press conferences to the tanning bed, he remains oblivious to all that is around him. He has power, incredible power, and yet to this day he has no understanding of the election that made it so. Moreover, all around him are astonishing opportunities for him to be an historic figure -- one who could and should be the man who did more than any other single person in turning back the red tide of Obama. It’s all there for Speaker of the House, and yet John Boehner manages to miss

Global sea levels have risen by 8 inches (20cm) since 1880 and scientists predict they could rise up to 3ft (98cm) by 2100. But despite the UN’s recent threats of war, famine and extreme weather, such a dramatically different world caused by sea level rise can be hard to imagine. To help picture the future, Martin Vargic, an amateur graphic designer from Slovakia, has created a map depicting the planet with sea levels around 260ft (79m) higher than they are today. He imagines what Earth would look like if the ice sheets surrounding the North and South poles melted, releasing

Joan Eisenstodt didn´t have a stopwatch when she went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist recently, but she is certain the physician was not in the exam room with her for more than three or four minutes. "He looked up my nose, said it was inflamed, told me to see the nurse for a prescription and was gone," said the 66-year-old Washington, D.C., consultant, who was suffering from an acute sinus infection. When she started protesting the doctor´s choice of medication, "He just cut me off totally," she said. "I´ve never been in and out from a visit faster." These days,

Harry Reid isn’t backing down from his claim that rancher Cliven Bundy’s supporters are “domestic terrorists.” It’s astonishing rhetoric given the White House’s characterization of the mass shooting by a genuine terrorist, Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 Americans at the Fort Hood Army base after yelling “Allahu Akbar!” (God is great.) Rather than labeling Hasan’s actions “domestic terrorism,” the Obama administration is prosecuting him for having committed “workplace violence.” Democratic rhetoric is become ever more desperate and overheated as we approach the November midterm elections. Last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that GOP positions on immigration were motivated by

Perhaps the most remarkable feature of American democracy is the magnificent estate of public land that it reserved from the very beginning for the use of all citizens, rich or poor. There is nothing like it in the democracies of Europe, which came into being with nations already carved up into private fiefdoms. The Great Idea that hundreds of millions of acres of forests, deserts, rivers and prairies should be owned by, and managed for, the public interest has had a profound and lasting influence on American culture. But not everyone has accepted it. Cliven Bundy’s armed standoff with the National Park

At a petite 5’3’’, Sage Santangelo may not look like a combat fighter at first glance. But the female second lieutenant has never let that hold her back from pursuing her dream of becoming an infantry officer in the Marine Corps. Growing up, Santangelo found she was always able to keep up with the guys and enjoyed playing hockey on all boys’ teams. But when she joined the Marines, Santangelo found the playing field changed; she was segregated into female-only training units and as a woman, was relegated to less strenuous physical training than her male counterparts. And that’s why,

"No, absolutely not," the November midterm election is not a referendum on President Obama and his policies, Democrat Party Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) told NBC´s "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "[T]hese elections, particularly the Senate elections, are referendums on the candidates running," she said. Asked about vulnerable Democrats who have criticized President Obama´s flawed healthcare law, Wasserman Schultz said they are running their own race. "They have to talk about and focus on the issues that are important to their constituents. And what´s also true is, if you look at the success rate and the track record of

In an op-ed published in the Boston Globe on Easter Sunday and posted on the State Department website, Secretary of State John Kerry recalled his days as an altar boy and pointed out that he is “the first Catholic Secretary of State in 33 years.” Alexander Haig, who served as secretary of state to President Ronald Reagan from January 1981 to July 1982, was also a Catholic. Last month, I traveled to Rome with President Obama, where I was honored to meet His Holiness Pope Francis,” said Kerry. “As an altar boy six decades ago, I never imagined that I

Suppose a scientific conference on cancer prevention never addressed smoking, on the grounds that in a free society you can´t change private behavior, and anyway, maybe the statistical relationships between smoking and cancer are really caused by some other third variable. Wouldn´t some suspect that the scientists who raised these claims were driven by something—ideology, tobacco money—other than science? Yet in the current discussions about increased inequality, few researchers, fewer reporters, and no one in the executive branch of government directly addresses what seems to be the strongest statistical correlate of inequality in the United States: the rise of single-parent

In internal government documents with potential repercussions for the 2016 presidential election, top officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development repeatedly cited former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for setting into motion a policy to waive restrictions on who could receive U.S. aid in Afghanistan, resulting in millions of dollars in U.S. funds going directly into the coffers of Afghan ministries known to be rife with corruption. References to Mrs. Clinton’s role in the policy first appeared in a November 2012 USAID action memo, which outlined how U.S. officials made a “strategic foreign-assistance

An unholy alliance between the Tea Party and the teachers’ unions threatens to derail the most promising education reform in decades. Like Rocky in the early rounds, the new Common Core math and reading standards are being pummeled left and right. From the left: Education icon Diane Ravitch says the Common Core represents a “utilitarian view of education” that is too focused on testing, data, and accountability. From the right, “ObamaCore” is denounced as federal intrusion. Heritage Foundation education fellow Lindsey Burke calls it “an effort to impose a uniform, standardized curriculum across the country.” From the further right, the always

What are the chances that Bernardine Dohrn, the wife of Bill Ayres, and a principal signatory on the Weather Underground´s "Declaration of a State of War" in May 1970 could be appointed as a judge in a Federal Court? Dohrn graduated with honors with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago and subsequently graduated from the University of Chicago Law School. Until August 2013, she was a clinical Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law. Bernardine Dohrn´s resume is almost as appealing as the President´s resume when he was elected to the presidency.
