President Obama Takes
‘Funeral Selfie,’ Internet Goes
Wild Over Michelle’s Expression

Mediaite, by Evan McMurry

Original Article

A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.

I posted a few days ago that it would not take long for an obama selfie to show up. Looks like I was right. But I did say it would be from the podium as he was talking. I was wrong there. Just when I think he cannot be a bigger embarassement he proves me wrong, again. What a joke.

These so-called "Heads of State" should be ashamed. Inadvertently or not, at least Michelle showed the solemnity of the occasion.

Michelle showed the appropriate expression. Naturally I didn´t expect much of Barack Obama, but David Cameron? And the prime minister of Denmark?!? They both know better than to mug at funerals.

When in doubt as to how to behave, one can always think about what one´s heroes would have done - assuming one has heroes, that is. What would have Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher have done?

Michelle got this one right.

Sorry, but dignity and class are qualities conspicuously lacking in the current FLOTUS. Imo its FAR more likely that Michelle was ticked off that a) POTUS was flirting with Miss Denmark and/or b) she wasn´t asked to be in on the A-List Selfie.

The idea that Michelle disapproves of such conduct at whats supposed to be a solemn occasion simply does not ring true for me.

While the horror show involving Brendan Eich, Proposition 8, and Mozilla was reaching its ignominious crescendo, I was in Milan, Italy, speaking before an energized crowd of activists in the Lombardy region’s county hall. Unaware of the witch hunt carried out by McCarthy’s rainbow-brandishing gay great-grandsons in Silicon Valley, a middle-aged man came forward and cried out in Italian, “Is it just me, or is the gay lobby imposing a dictatorship on us with their so-called scientific experts?” The science to which he referred wasn’t JavaScript, but rather psychology and pediatrics. Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
