Invisible Child
New York Times, by Andrea Elliott

She wakes to the sound of breathing. The smaller children lie tangled beside her, their chests rising and falling under winter coats and wool blankets. A few feet away, their mother and father sleep near the mop bucket they use as a toilet. Two other children share a mattress by the rotting wall where the mice live, opposite the baby, whose crib is warmed by a hair dryer perched on a milk crate. Slipping out from her covers, the oldest girl sits at the window. On mornings like this, she can see all the way across Brooklyn to the Empire

So what´s the point? Another child is brought thoughtlessly into the world by the sexual activity of drug-addicted parents and we are supposed to take money away from our own children to help perpetuate this bottomless way of life? Neuter the parents and take the kids away for adoption. There are childless couples who would love to raise a child without having to pay thousands of dollars to adopt. That´s the only way to end this endless cycle.

WTH is the mother doing having another baby? They must have had the kid while on welfare. Why? Of course you know why, to keep the welfare money increasing and coming in. And why aren´t the parents being interviewed? We know the answer to that as well. They are lazy losers. I have no sympathy. These kids needs to be taken away and put in foster homes and the ´parents´ kicked out on their butts. The city of NY is contributing to child abuse.

Could only get through two pages of this sob story. Sorry for the children, they´re the ones who are suffering and it´s their parents fault, not mine or society´s.
Sterilize the ´adult´s´ and take the children and let someone adopt them.

Haven´t read the story. Did read your comments, which made me wonder how this story would compare with many stories from the Great Depression about families that didn´t have histories of drug abuse, etc., but suffered deplorable conditions, without the many avenues of help available today, and yet most not only survived, but overcame with their dignity intact.

Choices, choices. We all make them and suffer the consequences. Unfortunately liberalism has encouraged such behavior under the pretense of tolerance and compassion. I guess the welfare state doesn´t make a very good daddy. But how could this squaler take place in a liberal utopia like New York? Can´t they find enough rich people to prevent this from happening? One would think NY would be the ideal laboratory to show how liberalism works!

I was reminded of the adage about needing a license to fish but anyone can have a kid.

And now, a charter school is angling to move in. If successful, it will eventually claim McKinney’s treasured top floor, home to its theater class, dance studio and art lab. Teachers and parents are bracing for battle, announced by fliers warning against the “apartheid” effects of a charter co-location.

Vouchers and a good school are the only chance Dasani and countless others are ever going to get in life, yet those in charge - dem politicians, teachers´ unions, and "community organizers" - aren´t going to allow it.

It should be a crime, more than one, to inflict the poverty and abuse onto these innocent children, and then another crime to commit the theft of monies it takes from innocent taxpayers to care for these children. The obama regime has made it a crime to go without insurance - how then can they allow these more serious crimes to go unpunished, or even addressed? Just a matter of who his peeps are, I guess.

The only thing missing from President Obama´s Rose Garden press conference Tuesday was a "Mission Accomplished" banner. He bragged that 7 million people have “signed up” through the health exchanges and claimed it was a “big step forward.” Americans are smart to be skeptical about these assertions. Big donors, leaders of political parties and candidates with access to wealthy supporters will be the biggest beneficiaries of the Supreme Court decision issued on Wednesday, a ruling that could fundamentally reshape the political terrain in the 2014 elections and beyond. Election experts predicted a surge of new money into congressional campaigns and political parties, expanding the world of high-dollar fund-raising now dominated by “super PACs” and big-spending political nonprofit groups. The decision effectively eradicates a major campaign finance restriction brought about in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal, the cap on the total amount any one person can give

A majority have consistently opposed that law ever since. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison.
