Obamacare, where the liberal
dream crashes and burns

Globe and Mail [Canada], by Margaret Wente

On Wednesday afternoon, a bunch of twentysomethings were summoned to the White House to hear an infomercial from Barack Obama himself. He was pitching health insurance. “The product is good. It’s affordable,” the President told them. “… We’re going to keep working through any glitches, problems that may come up.” He urged them to spread the word. “So if you’re a student body president, set up a conference on campus … If you’re a bartender, have a happy hour … Post something on your Facebook or Instagram.”Mr. Obama desperately needs healthy young people to sign on to Obamacare in order

We all know liberals live in a perpetual dreamworld with Untopian goals to keep them motivated. As bad as that is,the dream that young people would sign up and help fund older people, was a pipe dream from hell.I mean seriously, they don´t recognize how hard it is for a young person to make it on their own? Very few have well paying jobs and scrimp, save and claw their way from month to month.

Prices and bills are always going up way faster than their income but somehow in world liberals minds, they have enough money left to pay health insurance? i don´t think so.

But even larger than that the big majority of people have a rough time. Even if you make decent money on paper, everybody knows a person´s lifestyle increases with their pay. I´s not unusual at all that someone making a 100 grand is up to their eyeballs in debt and can hardly keep up. Very few people have the excess cash to throw at expensive health programs.High paid people also have employer coverage.

Young people voted for Obama expecting more free stuff, not get slammed with an extra expense every month.Even if Obama rigs the system for his voters,it´s just adding billions to the national debt.

the quick buck investment crowd who are benefiting by over loose fed policies, should be the one kicking in some more bread. But really the only fair way to fund national insurance is a national sales tax.The best way to raise big money is get a little from a lot of people.

For all intents and purposes the republicans have won the war on tax increases,so the cash starved left needs new means and scams to get money, that´s why they´re banking on climate change.

My guess is that now we´ll begin hearing about a Value Added Tax like that in England -- where everything you purchase has a whopping 17% tax on top of it. (Actually, it was 17% in the 1980´s, it´s probably more than that now.) So we´ll gleefully sock it to "the old rich white guys" to pay for it all, not understanding how much more deeply the tax would hurt the poor. And the useful idiot millenials will happily continue to vote Dem.

You’ve heard a lot of discussion of how many of those who signed up for Obamacare exchanges were previously uninsured, and how many had insurance, had their plan canceled, and had to sign up for a new one. Express Scripts is a giant company (Fortune 100) that manages pharmacies and prescription drug processing. They’ve got some new data to share on how their customers are purchasing or obtaining prescription drugs: Unlike medical claims that can take several months to process, pharmacy claims adjudicate in real time. And as the country’s largest provider of pharmacy benefits – the health benefit most often

It has long been recognized that “liberal” and “progressive” are misnomers when it comes to describing American leftists in the 21st Century. They may fancy themselves as forward-thinking but they go back eighty or so years whenever it’s time to craft economic policy and their racial politics gaze backward a half century. Most of the time. At the Civil Rights Summit in Austin this week, there were some prominent Democrats who surveyed the landscape and admitted that things are, in fact, much different now than they were in the early 1960s. Things have changed. That was the message delivered during

BEIJING — In 1970, when China was in the grip of the Cultural Revolution, Zhang Hongbing, a 16-year-old in Guzhen, a county in Anhui Province, made a fateful decision. During a family debate that year, his mother, Fang Zhongmou, had criticized Mao Zedong for his cult of personality. Her son and his father, believing her views to be counterrevolutionary, decided to inform on her. She was arrested that same day. Mr. Zhang still recalls how his mother’s shoulder joints gave a grating creak as her captors pulled the cord tight. Two months later, she was shot to death. In 1980, four years

Al Sharpton was thick as thieves with a notorious drug trafficker when he became an FBI informant — and even convinced then-US Sen. Alfonse D’Amato to get them $600,000 in federal funding for their “anti-drug” program. The portly preacher had just helped D’Amato win a tough 1986 re-election over Mark Green when he turned to the powerful lawmaker for the funding. Sharpton’s plan was to use a church-owned Brooklyn building for his program and give control to Robert Curington, who was labeled a Class 1 trafficker by the Drug Enforcement Administration because of his ties to major heroin dealers, according

Texas spans about 800 miles from north to south. Everything seen in red on the map is closer than 791 miles to Texas (the longest straight-line distance in Texas from north to south is

Speaking at Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference on Wednesday, Eric Holder took exception to criticism of his tenure as attorney general. He even hinted that the “unprecedented, unwarranted ugly and divisive adversity” was motivated by racism. “It had nothing to do with me, forget about that,”? Holder said. “What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment? What president has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?” Holder’s notion that past attorneys general have escaped widespread criticism, or that criticism directed toward him is solely race-based, overlooks incidents of those before him, including

Here’s a radical notion: It is simultaneously possible to believe that women are entitled to equal pay and to not support the Paycheck Fairness Act. Not that you’d know it from the rhetoric President Obama and fellow Democrat are happily flinging at Republicans who dare to oppose the measure. “I don’t know why you would resist the idea that women should be paid the same as men and then deny that that’s not always happening out there,” Obama said Tuesday. “If Republicans in Congress… want to show that they do care about women being paid the same as men, then show

Obamacare´s Medicaid Trap

The technology behind a huge part of Obamacare´s efforts to expand insurance coverage—the part aimed at low-income Americans—remains far from fixed, and the glitches are keeping some of the nation´s most vulnerable patients from getting insured. The administration launched a "tech surge" to improve the HealthCare.gov experience for those shopping for private insurance, but the website´s process for enrolling in Medicaid remained mired in glitches. And for President Obama´s efforts to expand health coverage that´s a major problem. To reach would-be Medicaid recipients, the Affordable Care Act relies on potential enrollees being able to effectively navigate the law´s website to enroll. And

John Kerry, our secretary of state, is very angry with Israel. “Poof,” he said on Tuesday — describing how Israel destroyed his “peace process” the other week. Just like that. The first thing to say is that if a peace process can go “poof,” it can’t have been much of a peace process. Any serious discussion in which two parties are motivated to reach a negotiated arrangement wouldn’t be susceptible to going up in smoke all at once. That would indicate it never had any form or substance to begin with. And how on earth was it Israel who made

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or
