A couple married just three weeks lured a Pennsylvania man to his death with a Craigslist ad because they wanted to kill someone together, police said. Elytte Barbour told officers before his arrest Friday night that he and his wife, Miranda, had planned to kill before but their plans never worked out until last month when Troy LaFerrara responded to an online posting that promised companionship in return for money. Elytte Barbour, 22, and Miranda Barbour, 18, both face criminal homicide charges in LaFerrara´s death. His body was found Nov. 12 in an alley in Sunbury, a small city northwest

We shouldn´t rush to judgement but instead allow room for reflection and spiritual growth as these young Democrats deal with the normal issues of growing up left in America.
If this act is somehow wrong, it is up to them, and only them, to discover that in their own good time.

Iran asks for U.N. committee

Iran requested on Monday a special meeting of a U.N. committee on the United States´ refusal to grant a visa to Tehran´s new U.N. ambassador appointee, but it has so far refrained from calling for any specific action, the committee´s chairman said. The United States said on Friday it would not grant a visa to Hamid Abutalebi because of his links to the 1979-1981 Tehran hostage crisis when radical Iranian students seized the U.S. Embassy and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. Abutalebi has said that he acted only as a translator. Iran has asked for a meeting of the U.N.

CIA and White House under pressure

A leak of the major findings of a landmark Senate inquiry into the CIA’s post-9/11 torture of terrorism detainees led, on Friday, to intensified pressure on the White House and the CIA to release the inquiry speedily and with a minimum of redactions. The classified study, prepared by the Senate select committee on intelligence, concluded that the CIA’s interrogations, secret detentions and outsourced torture sessions were “brutal, and far worse than the agency communicated to policymakers.” More suspected terrorists underwent the agency’s post-9/11 treatment, which largely lasted from 2002 to 2006, than the CIA has publicly admitted,

Despite recent tensions in relations between Israel and the United States, defense officials in the Jewish State are confident enough in the strength of the alliance to take on debt based on the expectation of future military aid. According to a Defense News report, Defense Minister Moshe Ya´alon has received government backing to purchase $2 billion in Pentagon-approved arms and aircraft, including the troubled V-22 tilt-rotor Osprey. After months of internal dialogue in the Finance Ministry and negotiations with the Pentagon´s defense contractors, Israel will enter into a US-approved deferred payment plan (DPP) to purchase the military

Thousands of Ugandans led by President Yoweri Museveni held a rally Monday celebrating tough new anti-gay laws, praising the bill despite international criticism and donor aid cuts. "Thank you for saving the future of Uganda," read signs held by the demonstrators, who marched through the streets of the capital Kampala. Last month, Museveni signed a bill that calls for "repeat homosexuals" to be jailed for life and requires people to report homosexuals. In movies and television shows, undercover cops running prostitution stings bring out the handcuffs as soon as there’s an agreement to exchange money for a sex act. They don’t usually wait to receive the service. But police in Hawaii have said they need the flexibility to have sex with prostitutes and have fought to save a state law that has allowed them to do so. Civil rights groups and victims’ advocates called that position ridiculous. “We are near certain that no other state in the nation allows for this type of ‘interpersonal’ and highly problematic ‘investigative tool’ to facilitate prostitution arrests,” the Pacific

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'
