Thursday Cable Ratings: Matthews’
Obama Interview Beats Greta

Chris Matthews‘ exclusive interview with President Barack Obama was #1 in the 25-54 demo at 7pm and the second highest-rated show in the demo for all of cable news, despite airing during other network’s live coverage of Nelson Mandela’s death. With 298K viewers in the demo, MSNBC’s Hardball beat Fox’s On The Record with Greta Van Susteren, which had 218K, in the 7pm time slot. The only show with more viewers in the demo than Hardball was Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor, which had 405K viewers at 8pm. With 1.296M total viewers, Matthews came within 3K of Greta Van Susteren, who

`Sounds like Obama benefited from people not wanting to watch Mandela news.A presidential interview barely beating a run of the mill Greta show isn´t much to brag about.

I guess Matthews will have to interview Obama every night to keep his ratings up and so the curious can tune in to the lies of the day.

Don´t have cable so I´m not that familiar with its parameters. Why is 25-54 the "key" demo? Do they count those who stay for the whole hour or just visit a few minutes then move on? I also noticed the chart of all viewers and combined, the other shows barely equal two thirds the total of Fox News viewers.
This is all on top of viewing any numbers that apply to the Liar-in-Chief with a good deal of skepticism.

You know how people form a "gaper block" while driving their cars when they pass an accident? I am guessing that many viewers tuned in for the gaper factor, to watch Matthews gush and to watch Obama lie.

Obama´s TV appearances and TV pressers usually bomb, ratings-wise. So the only way to explain this high rating is to watch Matthews don his kneepads, seeing as how watching Obama´s face is sheer gaggery.

I remember when Boring Katie Curick started her talk show. She put Rush Limbaugh on as one of her first interviews and her ratings soared. After that, they started falling and now she is gone. After everyone had already heard all about Mandela, watching another hour of babble about him or watching Chrissy slobber over Obama was an easy pick. Everyone was interested in how soft the questions would be and how long Obama´s lies would be. Didn´t take long to find out.

The coverage for Mandela was and is ridiculously inappropriate. It´s another indication of political correctness and the liberal bias of the media on full display.

Putting aside the complexion of Mandela´s skin, the coverage is so over the top considering the ultimate merits of the man, mixed as they are.

I do not recall such news coverage for the death of Margaret Thatcher, who I would argue was one of the top 5 leaders of the 20th century that favored and fought for individual liberty and human rights around the world. Thatcher was Reagan´s greatest ally in finishing off the Soviet Union and freeing hundreds of millions from Obama-like communism.

Mandela was the leader in his younger days of the African National Congress, a militant communist group allied with many nefarious nations and leaders dedicated to toppling nascent African democracies using terrorist tactics. Mandela only stopped being the scourge of Africa when he got jailed. Jailed for bombing soft targets and killing innocents. Thirty years in jail and juxtaposed against the racist apartheid policy does not clear the man of heinous acts chosen by his free will.

#4 asked, "Why is 25-54 the "key" demo?"

The answer is that advertisers want shows that have large viewership in that age group. People younger than 25 don´t have any money. People older than 25 aren´t swayed by advertising.

Here is a college quiz. While many parts of the U.S. economy struggle to recover from the Great Recession of 2008-09, one domestic industry is experiencing a technology-driven expansion in which American innovations have led to countless new company startups, a surge in hiring and some of the highest-paying entry-level jobs for graduating college seniors. CONCORD, N.H. — Republican Scott Brown said Monday he will kick off his next campaign for U.S. Senate in Portsmouth, the New Hampshire city he says played a special role in his childhood. The former Massachusetts senator will formally announce his bid for the seat held by Democrat Jeanne Shaheen at the Portsmouth Harborside Hotel on Thursday night. “I remember our house on Islington Street, strolling through Strawbery Banke with my grandfather, and catching a show at Prescott Park. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen sure talks a lot about “outside” money. She raises campaign funds by claiming to protect the state from outside “special interests” who might help Scott Brown. Those poor donors probably have no idea how much money Shaheen raises from out-of-state special interests. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign donations, Shaheen has raised 75 percent of her 2014 campaign cash from out of state. For her career, Shaheen’s top 10 metropolitan areas for campaign donations are, in order: Boston; New York City; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; Lowell, Mass; San Francisco; Manchester; Chicago; Portsmouth; Philadelphia.
