For thousands in New Jersey,
still no policy-renewal answers

The Record [Hackensack, NJ], by Michael Phillis and Lindy Washburn

Original Article

Despite the reprieve granted by President Obama, most of the 800,000 people in New Jersey who have been told their health policies can´t be renewed next year still don´t know whether they´ll get to keep their plans when it comes time to renew them in 2014. Insurance Commissioner Kenneth Kobylowski told a state Senate Commerce Committee hearing Thursday that not a single company has committed to renewing the old plans yet. He was invited to testify by state Sen. Nia Gill, the chairwoman of the committee and an Essex Democrat, about his decision last week to let insurance companies decide

Comments:
Delicious. Close to a million NJ residents are uninsured thanks to the cool pResident they reelected by a huge margin, and now an affirmative action Democrat complains that insurers are unwilling to break Obama´s law and continue to sell "substandard" plans.

How can Obama let this happen in New Jersey?

After all, the governor there is his BFF.

Oh, that condition existed for a few days prior to the election. I forgot.

My doctor had his insurance policy cancelled because it did not meet Obamacare requirements. The patients in his care that go on the exchanges to receive their insurance will cost him 33% of his normal reimbursement from employer provided insurance. Income redistribution is alive and well. If I were him, I would politely tell Obamacare insurance patients that they should seek another doctor.

Be careful what you ask for... Insurance companies are under pressure from the WH to reinstate policies.... at a MONSTER increase in co-pays.

I left the policy & doctors I´ve had for over 15 years.. why? My estimated copay for prescriptions alone are $12,880 with my old revised policy & $248 with my new HMO policy.

The co pays for doc visits, xrays, etc. were just as outrageous.

Nashville, TN — Doctors are warning about a deadly new mosquito-borne virus that could make its way to Middle Tennessee this spring. Chikungunya is being called the new West Nile Virus. While most mosquito-borne illnesses don´t usually show up until summer, this one could show up in the next couple of months. "[Chikungunya] means to bend up, kind of describing the pain that occurs when you have this virus," said Dr. Abelardo Moncayo, director of vector-borne diseases for the Tennessee Department of Health. Nashville, Tenn. — The state Senate on Tuesday passed a bill to allow Tennesseans to openly carry guns without a state-issued permit. The chamber voted 25-2 in favor of the bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Mae Beavers of Mt. Juliet. Beavers said the measure would maintain the current background checks and training requirements in order to carry concealed firearms, but would allow anyone legally allowed to own a gun to carry it openly without any extra restrictions. Beavers said on the Senate floor that requiring a carry permit "converts the right to carry a handgun into a privilege."

Come grilling season, expect your sirloin steak to come with a hearty side of sticker shock. Beef prices have reached all-time highs in the U.S. and aren´t expected to come down any time soon. Extreme weather has thinned the nation´s beef cattle herds to levels last seen in 1951, when there were about half as many mouths to feed in America. "We´ve seen strong prices before but nothing this extreme," said Dennis Smith, a commodities broker for Archer Financial Services in Chicago. "This is really new territory." The retail value of "all-fresh" USDA choice-grade beef jumped to a record

In a staggering loss of money even by Pentagon standards, the U.S. military and two contractors left American taxpayers on the hook for more than $700 million in food, laundry and other services that should have been billed to countries that sent troops to Afghanistan. Coalition countries tacitly agreed to reimburse the Army, but U.S. regional commands in Afghanistan frequently failed to pass along the charges, according to audit records obtained by The Washington Times through the Freedom of Information Act. The failures, which spanned a 27-month period from 2010 to 2012, included contractors, who didn’t report the costs of

Children as young as nine who are brought up in severely deprived backgrounds are more likely to show ageing in their chromosomes compared to more privileged children according to a study suggesting that environmental stress in early life can have long-term impacts on a person´s genetic makeup. A study of 40 African-American boys shows that those who came from socially disadvantaged homes had telomeres - the structural "tips" at the end of the chromosomes - that were on average about 20 per cent shorter than boys from more stable, nurturing backgrounds. But it also found that the effect depended on

It’s a practice that’s unheard of these days in the private sector — carrying over days, weeks, even months of unused leave time and collecting a hefty check at retirement. Yet it’s common for public employees, who continue to cash in at taxpayers’ expense. A series of six-figure payouts that have forced towns to borrow millions of dollars have placed a renewed focus on the perk afforded to public workers for decades. As the cases have mounted, the Legislature has yet to strike a deal for statewide reform. It’s a tug of war between those who want to scrap the

Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain."
