Teen rushed to surgery after swallowing
potentially deadly Buckyballs - incredibly

Daily Mail [UK], by Alex Greig

A Florida teen has had a lucky escape after accidentally swallowing two buckminsterfullerenes or ´Buckyballs´ - rare-earth magnets that are incredibly strong and can perforate the stomach and even kill if swallowed. Christin Rivas, 14, was given six of the magnets by a church friend just before Thanksgiving, and took them to her school in Melbourne to ´freak out´ her friends with tricks such as pulling a pen up a wall from a neighboring classroom. But the fun ended when Christin Rivas accidentally swallowed the magnets and had to have them surgically removed along with a portion of her colon

FTA: A recall has been made on Buckyballs, but they are still readily available online.

Wouldn´t it be easier to recall the stupid people?

You can smell the ignorance from here.

They´re garden-variety rare-earth magnets. IF you have another extremely strong magnet and you hold it up to your abdomen and you happen to be a very young person (like 1 year old) or you have an abnormally thin stomach, it is possible you could cause some damage.

By themselves, they will pass through your system without any problem.

Surgery? Really??

Idiots.

Something doesn´t add up here. If she swallowed them at the same time then they should stick together and pass. How could they get stuck? The intestines are not strong enough to pull the magnets apart. If they were then this whole issue would be moot.

Perhaps we´ve not been told everything or perhaps someone has gotten some poor medical advice. Or maybe she swallowed a big bunch of them which might cause a pinched intestine. But six should just stick together.

This is going to be an interesting situation to watch in the future. The Consumer Products Safety Commission has recalled Buckyballs. The LLC [limited liability company] that owned, manufactured and distributed the Buckeyballs has gone bankrupt. Now our lawless Attorney General Eric Holder wishes to pierce the limited liability of the LLC and pursue the inventor [a human] for the cost of the recall. Attorneys destroyed limited partnerships through litigation, now the big lawless Attorney General will do the same for the replacement.

The article explains where she got them (church friend), how she happened to swallow them, and why they had to be removed - more than one magnet significantly more dangerous than just one, which is pretty dangerous. It´s all in the article.

Mom should have taught young Christin not to put any objects in her mouth that have been handled your friends and rubbed against walls.

The ´elites´ really have no clue about the kinds of dangers that are required and considered routine in the normal, everyday process of making the world go ´round.

Out here in fly-over country we do logging and milling and we paint water towers and we do roofing way up in the air and plumbing while crawling under buildings with the snakes and scorpions and a million other dangerous things that we call ´making a living´.

A planet warmed by human-produced greenhouse gases poses significant risks already to people, cities and nations today and not just in the far-off future, according to a report the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will release at the end of this week. And those risks could mean "abrupt or drastic changes" that could lead to unstoppable and irreversible climate shifts like the runaway melting of Greenland´s glacial ice or the rapid drying out of South America´s Amazon rainforest, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The dangers of a warming Earth aren´t limited to animals like polar bears. They´re immediate and very human,

For the second time in what has been a frigid winter in the Northeastern United States, Niagara falls has come to an icy halt as the six million cubic feet of water that typically flow over the falls every minute has frozen over. The flow of water over the falls typically can withstand icy temperatures like those that have frozen much of the country this winter, but Monday´s high of 9 degrees Fahrenheit brought Niagara Falls to a standstill - and photographers were there to snap some stunning images of the frozen waterfall. CROSSVILLE — “Lies, damned lies and statistics” is a quote often attributed to Mark Twain. It should be a required quotation printed at the top of each government report and on the TV screen during an Obama speech. I once sat on a committee whose function, for want of a better description, would be that of quality control. It was our job to review records for compliance with legally mandated report formats. I quickly learned that the small group that physically reviewed the records had an interesting way of reporting results. The meeting would go something like this: “The number

Three years ago, the Georgia Department of Transportation, deeming the makeshift memorials a distraction to drivers and a safety hazard, began offering to place state-approved memorials at the sites of fatal wrecks. For a $100 fee, GDOT places a white sign with the name of the deceased under the words, “Drive Safely, In Memory.” Wednesday, a member of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, filed an application with GDOT to have a memorial placed at the Hall County site where a

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling.
