Democrat: Raise Gas Tax To
Make Up Lost Revenue From
Fuel-Efficient Vehicles

Cybercast News Service, by Eric Scheiner

Original Article

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) says his plan to nearly double the federal gas tax is needed because the tax hasn’t been raised in years and a decrease in fuel tax revenues has occurred due to the improved fuel efficiency of vehicles. When discussing his proposal on Fox News Dec. 3, Blumenauer said, “First of all, we haven’t raised the gas tax in 20 years. “During that time, the amount that the average motorist pays per mile that they drive because of increased fuel efficiency and inflation has been cut in half,” he continued. Blumenauer introduced a House bill this week

It couldn´t be that revenue is down because:
1) gas is more expensive;
2) people are driving less because the economy is down and they´re not working

Just saying...

This reminds me of something Rush shared on his radio program. Some municipality in California, I think, pushed water conservation. The local folks complied, so when the water usage went down, do did the revenue. The reward for using less water was a hike in water rates.

Government will always get theirs because of how they use the power and authority that we give them.

This follows in the footsteps of raising the rates on your water bill to make up for lost revenue from the use on mandated water saving devices. Plus it´s just getting worse. In California they had a requirement for all flush tank toilets had to be 1.6 gallons per flush. Now they just changed that to 1.28 gallons per flush. Plus now that have been installing these new flush-less urinals in public men´s rest rooms. When will it stop? So now I flush twice. Screw em.

A gas tax based only on the gallonage does not compensate for inflation. There needs to be a value component to the tax (a sales tax, say).

That said, smaller cars do practically no damage to road surfaces. Damage is largely the result of heavy trucks. Look there to raise road-repair revenues. Leave the poor motorist in his tiny death-mobile alone.

And people who ride bicycles are robbing millions from the Gov´t. Who is going to pay for that? What about the people who ride Gov´t subsidized trains? They are taking money from the Gov´t on two fronts. We may need two new taxes to make up for that, then everything will be better.

Revenge is a powerful engine, and nothing drives human behavior like it. Love, like candy, is dandy, but revenge, like liquor, is quicker, and the effect is longer lasting. The life and times of Bill de Blasio, the new mayor of New York City, reads like a satire from the typewriter of Evelyn Waugh. His Honor could have been a minor character in “Scoop,” Waugh’s classic send-up of newspaper journalism and bungling do-gooders stumbling across the margins of the real world. He’s a perfect fit in the scurvy precincts of Gotham’s radical left-wing politics. Unlike his predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, Mr. de Blasio has never had a real job, preferring the fun and games of political campaigns and hanging on at City Hall, where making trouble for people is a profitable

Minneapolis — Frigid, dense air swirled across much of the U.S. on Monday, forcing some cities and their residents into hibernation while others layered up and carried on despite a dangerous cold that broke decades-old records. Wind chill warnings stretched from Montana to Alabama. For a big chunk of the Midwest, the subzero temperatures moved in behind another winter wallop: more than a foot of snow and high winds that made traveling treacherous. Officials closed schools in cities including Chicago, St. Louis and Milwaukee and warned residents to stay indoors and avoid the frigid cold altogether. The forecast is extreme: Wind chills

Regardless of whether one accepts the individual-liberty case for legalizing marijuana, the consequentialist case is convincing. Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows. On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committee’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings “un-American.” And that spat has become the story. No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings — and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations. WASHINGTON — Charles G. and David H. Koch, the billionaire brothers who are perhaps the best-known patrons of conservative Republican politics, are bespectacled and in their 70s. They look genial enough. But Democrats are embarking on a broad effort that aims to unmask the press-shy siblings and portray them, instead, as a pair of villains bent on wrecking progressive politics. On Thursday, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is starting a digital campaign that will use Internet ads and videos, as well as social media, to tie Republican Senate candidates to the policies and actions of the Koch brothers. So, Lois Lerner still won´t talk about her role in the illegal targeting and harassment by the IRS of conservative and Tea Party groups seeking 501(c)(4) tax exemptions. Lerner appeared for a second time Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and claimed her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself.
