A beloved American teacher was shot dead in the Libyan city of Benghazi on Thursday, just days before he was supposed to return to the U.S. for the holidays, the school´s principal said. Ronnie Smith, 33, had been teaching chemistry at the International School Benghazi for about 18 months and was "very much loved," principal Peter Hodge told NBC News. “He was the most amazing person, more like a best friend or a family member," said student Yomna Zentani, 18. So very, very sad. I knew Ronnie from a bible study class in Austin TX. He was a very kind man and a Christian though and through. I have no doubt he was killed because of his faith in Christ.

As someone who lived and worked in the ´zone´ for many years, (as long time L-dotters may remember)I can tell you that everyone gets´used to´ their neighborhood. After a few weeks in the worst and most violent parts of the war zone it becomes your world and you get normal to it. You simply resume those activities which you require. It´s like normalizing to incarceration. The recreation yard is dangerous but you go anyway. Those who don´t get normal to the war become it´s worst victims. Those who do are a close second.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa.- The handlers for groundhog Punxsutawney Phil say he´s forecasting six more weeks of what already has felt like a brutally long and cold winter. Pennsylvania´s famed groundhog emerged from his lair in front of thousands of fans around daybreak Sunday. Legend has it that if the furry rodent sees his shadow on Feb. 2, winter will last another month-and-a-half. If he doesn´t see it, spring will come early. In reality, Phil´s prediction is decided ahead of time by a group called the Inner Circle, whose members don top hats and tuxedos for the annual Groundhog Day ceremony on

WASHINGTON — SO how do you make Monica haunt Hillary’s dreams? That’s what Republicans have been gnawing on, and that’s what not-so-bland Rand Paul was cagey enough to figure out. Fresh from taunting rival Chris Christie as “the king of bacon,” and declaring their feud “water under the bridge,” Paul turned his slingshot at a bigger target, the Big Dog himself, the gallivanting global statesman who is more popular than he has ever been, the master politician who has had to sell President Obama to America only a few years after he so vituperatively tried to turn off America on

They met on stage before a large audience at Spaulding Auditorium in the college’s Hopkins Center. Katie Pavlich calls it a “must see debate.” Ann Kane provides an interesting assessment here. The Democratic Party has created a well-oiled fundraising machine. While unlikely to recapture the House of Representatives and playing defense in key Senate battlegrounds, party leaders and their allies have created an efficient and well-run cash operation consisting of a small network of outside groups and party committees with distinct, concrete responsibilities. The party’s House and Senate fundraising arms closed out 2013 with big cash hauls bolstered by extensive fundraising commitments by President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Moody´s rating agency has lowered the outlook for health insurers from stable to negative, blaming ObamaCare. Few Americans will shed tears for insurance companies. But the Moody´s announcement is a warning sign to taxpayers. They´ll be getting clobbered. Section 1342 of the Affordable Care Act forces taxpayers to make insurers whole for most of the losses incurred selling ObamaCare exchange plans through 2016. The bailout is designed to conceal the failure of the president´s signature health law until he is out of office. No one in the Obama administration talked up the advantages of bailing out insurers. Labor leaders who have spent months lobbying unsuccessfully for special protections under the Affordable Care Act warned this week that the White House’s continued refusal to help is dampening union support for Democratic candidates in this year’s midterm elections. Leaders of two major unions, including the first to endorse Obama in 2008, said they have been betrayed by an administration that wooed their support for the 2009 legislation with promises to later address the peculiar needs of union-negotiated insurance plans that cover millions of workers.
