Black Florida Man Protests Union

A state plan to honor Union soldiers at Florida´s largest Civil War battlefield fell apart this week after "furious" pro-Confederate locals commandeered a town hall meeting, including an African-American activist who called Northern troops rapists and led the crowd in a round of Dixie. The state park system, which runs Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park 50 miles west of Jacksonville, had actually set up the town hall on Monday to decide where to place the monument. The wrong side won. They have been rubbing it in ever since then by taking power from the states and giving it to themselves.
No wonder there is still resentment.

Stop by the grave yard in Shiloh. The Confederate prisoners buried the dead and erected the headstones. All the Confederate headstones are pointed - to keep Union troops from sitting on them.

Note: the people of Vicksburg (not the soldiers) were raped and starved and burned out by Northern Troops. They did not celebrate the 4th of July from 1865 until 1945.

#2, sometimes you just have to let it go. If you want to talk to some folks who really got the wrong end of the stick, why don´t you talk to the native Hawaiian folks who had their islands totally stolen from them? Strategically I understand why. But from a human point of view, they got screwed over worse than the South ever did.

Some Union soldiers owned slaves. The McCoy (of Hatfield and McCoy fame) who broke with his family and fought for the Union owned a slave. After he was injured and came home he insulted a very mean and violent Hatfield family member and went up mountain to hide. He was brought sustenance and messages by his slave. The History Channel edited that history out.

Anyway, there was plenty of bad behavior on both sides and the war was not solely about slavery. We are still feeling its effects and consequences and I wonder if we will ever truly get beyond it.

A planet warmed by human-produced greenhouse gases poses significant risks already to people, cities and nations today and not just in the far-off future, according to a report the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will release at the end of this week. And those risks could mean "abrupt or drastic changes" that could lead to unstoppable and irreversible climate shifts like the runaway melting of Greenland´s glacial ice or the rapid drying out of South America´s Amazon rainforest, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The dangers of a warming Earth aren´t limited to animals like polar bears. They´re immediate and very human,

CROSSVILLE — “Lies, damned lies and statistics” is a quote often attributed to Mark Twain. It should be a required quotation printed at the top of each government report and on the TV screen during an Obama speech. I once sat on a committee whose function, for want of a better description, would be that of quality control. It was our job to review records for compliance with legally mandated report formats. I quickly learned that the small group that physically reviewed the records had an interesting way of reporting results. The meeting would go something like this: “The number

Three years ago, the Georgia Department of Transportation, deeming the makeshift memorials a distraction to drivers and a safety hazard, began offering to place state-approved memorials at the sites of fatal wrecks. For a $100 fee, GDOT places a white sign with the name of the deceased under the words, “Drive Safely, In Memory.” Wednesday, a member of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, filed an application with GDOT to have a memorial placed at the Hall County site where a

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers.
