Good Riddance: The Best (Worst)
of MSNBC’s Martin Bashir

Mediaite, by Andrew Kirell

After a near week-and-a-half “vacation” from being on-air, MSNBC’s Martin Bashir resigned Wednesday afternoon in light of comments he made about someone defecating in Sarah Palin‘s mouth. As Mediaite readers are likely well aware, I’ve gone after Bashir’s show multiple times, not for partisan reasons (I occasionally agree with the host) but because I believe his show represented the very worst aspects of cable news today. There are plenty of nasty, counterproductive hosts and pundit on Fox and CNN as well, but Bashir’s show somehow managed to combine all those negatives into one giant mess. And so, with that, I

Well this certainly has been worth waiting for! Gov. Palin - congratulations for handling your self with lady-like aplomb You, mam, have grown remarkably well in your ability to deflect criticisms of every type. We mama grizzles are still beside you every step of the way. As one fan said recently, I just want to gaze into your eyes. To look closely at your soul. Hope to see you up front and center real soon.

I never, ever watched this guy, even when he was at ABC(?), but I´m glad he´s gone.

His remarks were despicable, and delivered in such a nasty tone, that he seems deranged.

When confronted with malicious, jealous, unkind people, whether it´s Bashir, someone we know which is the worst, or online demons attacking Sarah Palin for daring to exist...

it´s almost surreal that a large number of people actually do these kinds of things. How they sleep at night is truly a mystery. No conscience?

Trying to understand why they have such malice is truly useless. They have this malice inside their hearts. Bashir was finally forced out and finally we have a small measure of vindication for what´s right and what´s not.

I have noted that DeeDee Myers and a tiny handful of others condemned this nastiness. Nary a high profile and liberal kissing "Republican" among them.

Yes, the spoilt child MSNBC has been caught showing their fanny- once again! But, they are still blathering their filth and lies to their minuscule remaining audience.

The right solution is to quit buying their sponsor´s stuff. Write letters to their sponsors! Write letters- make calls. It works!

An aide to the Koch brothers on Friday ripped into a massive Democratic ad buy that attacks the billionaires across five Senate battleground states. In reaction to a $3 million ad buy in Colorado, North Carolina, Arkansas, Michigan and Louisiana by Senate Majority PAC, a spokesman for Koch Industries accused the group of “negative cynical, divisive, and dishonest attacks” against Charles and David Koch. The big spending by the Democratic group “is the latest round in a series of attacks and attempts to silence private citizens who dare to disagree with the policies of the Majority Leader and the current administration,”

A week before a self-imposed deadline for a review of National Security Agency programs, President Barack Obama sought Friday to assure leading Internet and tech executives that his administration is committed to protecting people´s privacy. CEOs from Facebook, Google, Netflix and others spent more than two hours with Obama in the Oval Office discussing their concerns about NSA spying programs, which have drawn outrage from tech companies whose data have been scooped up by the government. Joining Obama and the CEOs were Obama´s commerce secretary, homeland security adviser, and counselor John Podesta, whom Obama has tasked with leading a review

WASHINGTON— Mayor Vincent Gray often calls the District of Columbia "the envy of the nation" for its robust economy and fast-growing population, but some say the local government he leads — plagued by corruption, pay-to-play politics and disengaged voters — is a stain on the city´s progress. The latest bruise to the city´s reputation involves Gray, who is under federal investigation. Prosecutors say he knew about a $668,000 campaign slush fund that helped him get elected in 2010, and while Gray has not been charged, five people involved with his campaign have been convicted. Separately, three former members of the

BEIJING – The arrival in China of President Obama’s daughters, 15-year-old Malia and 12-year-old Sasha, for a weeklong trip with their mother, prompts the question: What about President Xi Jinping’s daughter? Xi’s daughter, Xi Mingze, never appears in public. The 21-year-old is believed to be a student at Harvard University, enrolled under a pseudonym. That has never been mentioned in the Chinese press and searches of her name on the Chinese Internet are blocked. The most recent photo of her available was from when she was about 10. The only other confirmed photograph, released last year by Chinese state media, shows

Michigan´s ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional, a federal judge said Friday, striking down a law that was widely embraced by voters a decade ago in the latest in a series of similar decisions across the country. But unlike cases in other states, U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman did not suspend his decision while the Michigan attorney general pursues an appeal. That means clerks could start issuing licenses Monday unless a higher court intervenes. Friedman released his 31-page ruling exactly two weeks after a rare trial that mostly focused on the impact of same-sex parenting on children. The challenge was

An unwanted conversation about a Latino’s ability to speak English without an accent. This is not exactly the language of traditional racism, but in an avalanche of blogs, student discourse, campus theater and academic papers, they all reflect the murky terrain of the social justice word du jour — microaggressions — used to describe the subtle ways that racial, ethnic, gender and other stereotypes can play out painfully in an increasingly diverse culture. The GOP Florida senator has been laying out his case for a muscular, more interventionist foreign policy for weeks, sounding the alarm about Russia’s incursion into Crimea and criticizing President Obama for his handling of the crisis. He´s positioned himself as a foreign policy hawk who might stand out from a GOP field that’s increasingly dominated by libertarians like Sen. U.S. consumers eligible for Obamacare health plans could see double-digit price hikes next year in states that fail to draw large numbers of enrollees for 2014, including some states that have been hostile to the healthcare law, according to insurance industry officials and analysts. The early estimates come as insurance companies set out to design plans they intend to sell in 2015 through the state-based health insurance marketplaces that are a centerpiece of the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama´s signature domestic policy achievement that is widely referred to as Obamacare. Having delved into some deep constitutional issues and philosophical debates the past couple of columns, let’s get into the political nitty-gritty this week, and specifically how this year’s midterm elections are shaping as a good year — a very good year — for Republican House and Senate candidates. I think in many ways the outlines of the 2014 campaign have already been set: All the polls show that the American people have lost their trust and confidence in President Obama and the Democrats (only in part because of Obamacare’s troubles), and unless the Republicans mess things up over the next

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers. The racial disparities in American education, from access to high-level classes and experienced teachers to discipline, were highlighted in a report released Friday by the Education Department´s civil rights arm. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation´s districts with preschools reported suspending at
