Dem proposes taxing
drivers by the mile

The Hill [Washington, D.C.], by Pete Kasperowicz

Original Article

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) on Tuesday reintroduced legislation that would require the government to study the most practical ways of taxing drivers based on how far they drive, in order to help fund federal highway programs. Blumenauer´s bill, H.R. 3638, would set up a Road Usage Fee Pilot Program, which he said would study mileage-based fee systems. He cast his bill as a long-term solution for funding highway programs, and proposed it along with a shorter-term plan to nearly double the gas tax, from 18.4 cents to 33.4 cents per gallon. "As we extend the gas tax, we must also think about

This evil Democrat followed through with what he said on Cavuto´s show. What would you expect from this member of the Progressive (a/k/a Communist) Caucus and he is the founder and proprietor of the Congressional Bicycle Caucus. Good. Grief. There isn´t anything they won´t tax.

This is racist! Racist companies don´t locate in minority neighborhoods because they are racist and minorities tend to have to drive farther to go work for these racist companies.

""As we extend the gas tax, we must also think about how to replace it with something more sustainable,"

what the heck does that doublespeak mean???
more sustainable?? he´s blending in green lingo to make the idea of a new tax trendy.

the article also falsely states opposition to a new tax is Republican based.

The main howling about this tax is going to be from the electric car owners, who current avoid gas taxes, and frequently get dedicated parking spots with free hookups for electricity (that we pay for).

The Feds also will obviously gain access to your cars electronic box to determine your taxable milage...where are the civil libertarians??

In fact, I am not opposed to a mileage based user fee equally imposed upon all drivers. That would be equitable. Of course that doesn´t buy you votes, so no doubt the Dems would cook up some way to rebate or reduce the VMT based upon income level...

Just like when tobacco tax revenue fell with the assault on smokers, the unintended consequence of higher MPG standards has cut into the gas tax revenue. The war on the middle class continues - not only do automobiles cost more to purchase and maintain because of the EPA and CAFE requirements, now we won´t even be allowed to keep any of the money we save from driving little Smartcar deathtraps that we don´t want in the first place.

We already have that tax (fuel excise tax), and everybody pays it, including the heavy road use truckers. Further, the diesel is dyed so that home heating oil (exempt from the fuel tax) can´t be put in truck fuel tanks (or will incur a huge fine if caught by police)

We have this nifty new technology that will allow us to track everywhere the peasants drive. We need to come up with an excuse that will convince them to let us install it. I know, we will claim it is in order to tax them by the mile they drive(which is a great idea in and of itself). By the time they realize that it will let us know where they are at all times, it will be too late to roll back.

Can you imagine what would happen if each level of government were allowed one single mechanism for taxing? We´d have a revolution because the people would see and be able to do a value analysis. Any dolt should know that we the people pay all regardless of passing the tax through businesses or any other mechanism. Let income tax be the only federal tax and see that they take over 50% rather than allow a pretense of far less. Also the tax system would not be a tool for social engineering.

Unless you are driving one of those coal-powered electric cars.

Next to be taxed:
- how many times you inhale per day.
- the number of times you go to the bathroom (#2 is taxed at twice the rate of #1)
- a tax for each word you speak
- how many times you turn a light switch on or off (OCD people will be unfairly overtaxed as they will be counting)
- each time you turn on the water faucet (regardless of current taxes on the amount of water you use)
- each step you take
- every mile you ride your bike
- each time you change your clothes
- each load of laundry you do
- taxed for how much space you have inside your home (cubic feet of air inhabited)
- every cough and sneeze
-and so on and so on and so on....
