Butterfield Staff Eschews
Switch to Obamacare

Carolina Journal Online, by Barry Smith

RALEIGH — Most of North Carolina’s congressional staffers — the men and women who work for the state’s two U.S. senators and 13 members of the U.S. House of Representatives — will be entering the District of Columbia’s health care exchange once the Affordable Care Act takes effect in January. One notable exception: the office of 1st District Rep. G.K. Butterfield. “The consensus amongst my team was to keep the same employer-sponsored coverage every other employee receives,” Butterfield said in a statement.

Comments:
A liberal African American member of Congress who voted for ObamaCare doesn´t think his staff should have to comply with the law...

And why isn´t the news media screaming bloody murder about Harry Reid´s monumental hypocrisy?

Why aren´t Republicans screaming bloody murder?

Shabazz Napier, point guard for The University of Connecticut´s men´s basketball team, recently told reporters he understands why athletes at Northwestern need a union, as he sometimes has to go to bed "starving" because he cannot afford food. "We as student athletes get utilized for what we do so well. We are definitely best to get a scholarship to our universities, but at the end of the day, that doesn´t cover everything. We do have hungry nights that we don´t have enough money to get food and sometimes money is needed," the senior told reporters. "I think, you know, Northwestern has

Despite an increase of at least $400,000 in incentive payments to keep the CIAA basketball tournament, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority said it’s confident it will still have enough money to attract other conventions and events. The CIAA and the CRVA announced Monday that Charlotte would be home to its annual basketball tournament through 2020 and that the CIAA would move its headquarters from Hampton, Va., to the Queen City. The CRVA’s current deal with the CIAA calls for Charlotte to provide the CIAA with $1 million annually along with use of the Convention Center rent-free.

North Carolina’s unemployment rate has fallen more than other states’ this year, and changes in the state’s unemployment system may be a contributor, Wells Fargo Securities economist Mark Vitner wrote in a report Tuesday. Three hours after No. 3 Auburn finished beating No. 5 Missouri in the SEC Championship and started stumping to be chosen over an undefeated Ohio State team, Michigan State erased any debate by beating the Buckeyes 34-24 in the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis.

An Alabama fan was shot dead after a fight outside a football-watching party shortly after the Crimson Tide lost in a stunning upset to the Auburn Tigers Saturday. Michelle Shepherd was attacked by fellow fans of the University of Alabama after she commented that she didn´t care that much that the team had lost, her sister says. Saturday's 34-28 loss to in-state rivals the Auburn Tigers in a remarkable last-second touchdown means Alabama lost its No. 1 ranking and, likely, its chance to play for a third-consecutive national championship. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or
