Catholics and Communists
American Thinker, by Daren Jonescu

Original Article

The Catholic Church´s recent history of sympathizing with, and even supporting, Marxist progressivism is clear, sad, and indicative of a deeply irrational and anti-individual streak within the modern Church hierarchy. Catholics who care about the Church, its history, and its future -- and also about humanity, reason and freedom -- must stop making excuses for their current spiritual leadership´s collectivist authoritarian impulses. Having now drawn a bull's eye on my own forehead in bold colors, I shall attempt to make my case.

As a lifelong Catholic I am now considering becoming an Episcopalian if there is a conservative branch that rejects Liberation Theology and where there is the succession of Bishops. I am feeling that the Church has left me and that I am not leaving it.

I think that this author needs to go back and read the bible. It does not say support the rh at all costs. Maybe a review of Matthew might help.

A persons denomination is meaningless. Just live by the Word and you can´t go wrong. Most denominations pick and choose what they want to obey from the Bible. They interpret the Bible in a way that justifies their desires in life. Live by the Gospels. Believe the Bible when it states only thru Christ can you be redeemed and enter heaven. Anyway, that is my 2-cents worth.

I guess John Paul II never got the word that the church was supposed to support communism.

Don´t confuse the errors of some individual priests(including some bishops)with the Church. Out of a confused sympathy with the poor, some priests have enbraced communism because they perceive that it would help the poor. The lessons of history teach otherwise and the larger Church knows that.

OP, you may want to re-think your possible move to The Episcopal Church. TEC is about as far left leaning as you can go. If you want a liturgy that is similar to the RC liturgy but still holds to the Gospel, then try one of the Anglican churches here in the US and Canada. ACNA churches vary in style from Evangelical to Anglo-Catholic so hopefully you can find something to fit your tastes.

OP might want to note that conservative Anglicans are moving "en masse" to the Anglican Ordinariate which approved by Pope Benedict in 2012.

If you are not aware of it - google.

Here is a verse that the progressive theologists scrupulously avoid:

For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.
(2 Thessalonians 3:10-12)

I trust Paul´s word on this issue more than those who twist scriptures to support their progressive ideologies.

I like Pope Francis - who couldn´t, but jury is still out on who he is. I thought it interesting to read what happened to an International Statue of Our Lady of Fatima in the Philippines this fall (statue one of many travels to different churches and this particular statue had the bullet that failed to assassinate Pope John Paul II inserted in its crown. Pope always said Our Lady saved his life).

Anyway, Catholics are familiar with three children of Fatima being told by Our Lady about 60 years ago that there would be peace in the world if Russia were consecrated by the Pope to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
(don´t want to get too much in the weeds here with the Catholicity, but sometimes it´s o.k. to still believe in mystical), but no Pope since Our Lady appeared to the children on October 13, 1917 (significant year for Russia) has, specifically, consecrated Russia; usually, they consecrate the whole world, without mentioning Russia.

But interesting chronology:

1) September 16 - Statue with Pope John Paul´s assassin´s bullet imbedded in the crown came to Philippines.
2) October 13 - Pope Francis came to Fatima and, again, did not consecrate Russia, but consecrated the whole world to Our Lady.
3) October 15 - Bohul Cebua earthquake happens in the Philippines, and statue still in the country.
4) November 7 - statue arrived in town of Dolores (Dolor is latin word for sorrow).
5) November 8 - typhoon Haiyan hits Philippines.
6) Because of this horrendous storm, the statue is stranded in a town that means sorrow.

Very difficult to understand why Philippines was hit twice, but an interesting succession of events, and I believe in signs and wonders even though I don´t understand them.

OP, if one were justified in leaving the Church because her top guys are muddle-headed, the Church would have been deadon Day One. Why? Because of Jesus´ 12 hand-picked men, one betrayed Him, one denied him, and the other nine headed for the tall grass in fear, with just one left --- St.John --- to stand fast at the foot of the Cross.

I have not read Pope Francis´ 48,000 word Apostolic Exhortation. I have not seen any quotes, however, in which Pope Francis is calling for state-enforced redistribution of property as the solution to poverty.

This little Korean whatchamacallit in this article is the very opposite of an exponent of either papal diplomacy or Catholic doctrine. A defender of North Korea, he calls himself a peace and justice advocate; however, there are only two governments in the world with whom the Holy See does not have any level of diplomatic relationship, and those are the governments of North Korea and of Red China, because they are implacably opposed to, and incompatible with, the Catholic Church.

The fact is, the Reds say the Catholic Church defends the right of private property, and will forever. And the Reds are right. That goes together with the Church´s robust understanding of the duties of private property, which make us ---if we neglect the needs of the suffering and destitute --- answerable to God and liable to hellfire.

I deplore the softboiled socialism so often dished out by clerical bureaucrats everywhere. But I am convinced by the evidence --- and you could get confirming testimony from Cristina Fernández de Kirchner --- that Pope Francis is a persistent and aggravating opponent of the Communists and their allies.

Doubt that? Ask them, comrade, ask them.

Is Mitt Romney getting the band back together? The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has invited his debate prep advisers and senior campaign aides to his mountaintop chalet in Park City, Utah, for a weekend of skiing later this month, according to two people close to Romney. The reunion of Romney´s political brain trust comes amid a burst of positive buzz about the former Massachusetts governor -- from favorable reviews of "MITT," the Netflix documentary about his campaigns, to chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Rand Paul handily won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday, one gauge of the Republican base’s mood less than two years before the 2016 primary season kicks off. The Kentucky senator received 31 percent, far ahead of second place Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who received 11 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson finished third with 9 percent, ahead of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 8 percent. The announcement came at the end of the group’s annual three-day confab. Organizers said that 2,459 attendees voted on computer kiosks.

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

Sarah Palin, the tea-party-darling former Alaska governor who ran for vice president in 2008, is leaving the door open for a president run in 2016. ´It depends on what it is that Americans really, really want in a candidate,´ Palin said Friday night. ´If they want a fighter, if they want someone who can so respect our exceptionalism, everything that makes America great, the promise of America. And if we don´t find that, then I would run.´ [Snip] Asked who her favorite presidential hopefuls are so far, she singled out Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul while

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. (snip) So when did Ann´s and Obama Sr.´s "whatever happened happened fast" wedding happen? For no apparent reason, confusion abounds among Obama´s biographers over the wedding date:

New York City lefty Mayor Bill de Blasio was elected in a landslide with more than 73 percent of the vote last November. Yet after only two months on the job, his approval rating has been cut nearly in half, with only 39 percent of city voters expressing approval of the job he has done so far. The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. (Snip) The problem had to be big enough, he said, to stop the plane´s transponder from broadcasting its location, although the transponder can be purposely shut off from the cockpit.

Hi, everybody. This week, I traveled to New England, where I was joined by four governors who are working to raise the minimum wage in each of their states. And they’ve also joined me in calling on Congress to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. Because it would give nearly 800,000 Americans in their states a raise — and lift wages for about 28 million across the country. So these governors aren’t waiting for Congress to make up its mind. And in my State of the Union Address, I asked America’s business leaders to go ahead and do what they could to raise their employees’ wages, too.
