Pollution Pact From China to
India Shows Rift: Carbon & Climate

Bloomberg News, by Reed Landberg & Alex Morales

Original Article

China and India’s success in weakening the latest global warming agreement created friction with other developing nations that are seeking to step up the fight against climate change. The two countries insisted on single-word changes for a deal at a United Nations conference involving 190 nations on Nov. 23. Instead of making “commitments” to roll back fossil fuel emissions, they signed up for “contributions,” a formulation that allows more flexibility in their action. Those last-minute revisions at a meeting that ran overtime by almost 30 hours underscored the reluctance of China and India to join in the sort of emissions

All one has to do is see the stories recently posted here, with pictures, of the choking air that surrounds many major Chinese cities. Imagine we are getting our chickens packaged and shipped from there. Would you believe, with all the lack of inspecting of food coming here that they are safe to eat. There food production all begins with the soil and air. Watch the labels on imported food, especially at discount stores.

Since Global Warming is a hoax, it is better for China and India to keep working than to giving money to parasite nations for nothing. There has been no Global Warming for 15 years. The UN lies, just like Obama with his DeathCare and Hilary´s Husband with his beloved Monica Lewinsky.

Sarah Palin to David Letterman:
´In with the new´
Politico, by Tal Kopan    Original Article

Sarah Palin is not only celebrating David Letterman’s just-announced retirement, she says she hopes it might start a trend. “It’s cool, you know, out with the old, in with the new,” the former Alaska governor said on Fox News’s “Hannity” on Thursday night, after Letterman announced he would retire in 2015 that afternoon. The conservative darling famously clashed with Letterman in 2009 after he told a joke about her daughter that she said crossed a line. He later apologized. Speaking from Florida where Palin was fundraising for upstart Republican congressional candidate Lizbeth Benacquisto, Palin said she hoped Letterman’s decision

These satellite images show

Last month, the New York Times reported that satellite images appeared to show that Iran was undertaking a strange task: Creating a nonfunctional, full-size replica of an American Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier at the Gachin shipyard near Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf. Why, exactly, would Iran do this? Analysts told the Times that the boat might be blown up, either as target practice or for propaganda purposes. Iranian media rebutted these theories, instead reporting that the boat was part of a set being built for a movie based on the 1988 downing of an Iran Air passenger jet by the USS Vincennes.

Cleveland - As excited baseball fans, many of them wearing Cleveland´s smiling Chief Wahoo logo, headed into Progressive Field for Friday´s home opener, a smaller group stood by unable to share their enthusiasm. Holding hand-painted signs that read, "We Are Not Honored," and "Our Children Are Not Mascots," a contingent of Native Americans and some of their supporters demonstrated against the Indians´ use of their red-faced Wahoo logo. The protesters, who have been gathering outside the ballpark´s entrances on opening day for years to voice their displeasure about the team´s use of the long-standing logo,

‘Escalating argument’ direct

Officials now believe that an argument was a “direct, precipitating factor” leading to Wednesday’s shooting at Fort Hood, Lt. Gen. Mark A. Milley, the post’s commander, said during a news conference Friday afternoon. Army Spec. Ivan A. Lopez opened fire on Wednesday, killing three people and injuring 16, leading to a frenzied, chaotic scene on and around the sprawling installation. “His underlying medical conditions are not a direct precipitating factor,” Milley said Friday. “We believe that the immediate precipitating factor was more likely an escalating argument in his unit area.”

A dour Vladimir Putin glares ever so frostily, full of menace, free of mirth, ready to annex any passer-by unwise enough to get too close. Tony Blair stares ahead, sober and resolute. Hamid Karzai, in traditional green cap and cape, glances off to the side, almost as if checking over his shoulder for the Taliban — or perhaps for the United States. The Dalai Lama looks serene, Stephen Harper jovial, Jiang Zemin grim. The world’s most distinctive gallery of international leaders opens in Dallas on Saturday, famous faces as seen through the eyes of the former president of the United States and noted amateur painter, George W. Bush.

Iran’s Reformers Include More

Washington Post, by Robert Mackey    Original Article

As my colleagues Somini Sengupta and Thomas Erdbrink reported, there has been discomfort and anger in Washington since Iran applied for a visa to let a veteran diplomat who played a part in the 1979 hostage crisis move to New York and serve as its ambassador to the United Nations. What the outraged reaction from Washington obscures, however, is that several of the former hostage-takers — including the man who devised the plan to seize the United States Embassy in Tehran and the woman who explained the group’s demands to foreign reporters — later became leading members of the movement for reform in Iran.

Do progressive politics just make for good business? It seems they might, judging from the latest HoneyMaid ad, called “Love,” released after people left hateful comments about the same-sex couple featured in their ad, “This is Wholesome.” HoneyMaid avoided the snark route, and went straight for sentimentality instead. They printed out all of the negative comments and used them to make a collage that spells out the word “love.” The HoneyMaid commercial is just the latest in a general trend toward inclusivity in advertising. Remember all the flack Cheerios caught for its biracial couple and their sweet daughter in “Just Checking?”

Washington - A seniors group that received almost $16 million from the conservative Koch brothers started running ads this week that the billionaire siblings did not support. The Koch-led Freedom Partners routinely spends millions to help conservative allies, but the umbrella organization does not have a day-to-day say in those groups´ tactics. That sometimes leads to conflicting or contradictory messages coming out of the brothers´ vast network of advocacy organizations. Take, for instance, the 60 Plus Association´s latest ads against seven members of the Senate Banking Committee. The $1.5 million in ads aims to derail a proposal

McDonald´s quits Crimea

Kiev - McDonald´s announced on Friday it had closed its restaurants in Crimea, prompting fears of a backlash as a prominent Moscow politician called for all the U.S. fast food chain´s outlets in Russia to be shut. Crimea´s annexation by Russia, which Ukraine and the West do not acknowledge, has worried companies with assets in the Black Sea peninsula as it is unclear how the change may impact their business. While McDonald´s did not mention the political situation in its statement, its decision to leave the region is likely to be seen as emblematic of the rift in Western-Russian relations, now at their lowest ebb since the end of the Cold War.

You’re never too small to make a stand against Vladimir Putin. Mighty Taco, a fast-food chain of Mexican restaurants, has banned the Russian president from its branches until he stops “ picking on people” – referring to his seizure of Crimea from Ukraine. The company, which has 23 eateries in western New York, posted a message on its Facebook page earlier this week, forbidding the politician from entering any of their locations - “even the one in Delaware and Hertel!” “Normally at Mighty Taco, we don’t like to get political, but someone has to do something – and that someone is us!” said the firm’s Facebook statement.

A veteran Associated Press photographer was killed and an AP reporter was wounded in the attack on Friday, when an Afghan policeman opened fire while they were sitting in their car in eastern Afghanistan. (Snip) As they were sitting in the car waiting for the convoy to move, a unit commander named Naqibullah walked up to the car, yelled “Allahu Akbar” - God is Great - and opened fire on them in the back seat with his AK-47. He then surrendered to the other police and was arrested. Medical officials in Khost confirmed that Niedringhaus died.

In a special “management alert” made public Thursday, the State Department’s Inspector General Steve Linick warned “significant financial risk and a lack of internal control at the department has led to billions of unaccounted dollars over the last six years. The alert was just the latest example of the federal government’s continued struggle with oversight over its outside contractors. The lack of oversight “exposes the department to significant financial risk,” the auditor said. “It creates conditions conducive to fraud, as corrupt individuals may attempt

In his opening statement during highly anticipated testimony Wednesday on Benghazi, former CIA deputy director Michael Morell claimed to be an intelligence professional who was willing to lay out the facts -- no matter how damaging. "I take very seriously the allegations about how the CIA in general and about how I in particular handled the analysis and the talking points," Morell told the House Intelligence Committee, in his first public testimony on the Benghazi attacks. "The ethical code under which intelligence officers carry out their responsibilities calls for total objectivity." But Morell´s own testimony would appear to undercut that

Sources on the ground in Benghazi during the 2012 terror attack are pushing back hard on former CIA acting director Mike Morell´s testimony on Capitol Hill, where he defended his role in shaping the administration´s narrative and claimed politics were not involved. As part of Morell´s testimony on Wednesday, the former acting and deputy CIA director acknowledged that he overruled the guidance of the top CIA officer in Libya at the time. That official told Morell the attack was not an "escalation of protests," but Morell said he had to weigh that against analysts who concluded the opposite. He ultimately went

Big changes could be just down the road for North Carolina drivers. A proposal is in the works that would change the state tax system to charge drivers by the mile, instead of at the gas pump. The proposal would be to charge a half cent per mile for cars, which would generate almost $500 million in annual state revenue. A driver who travelled 15,000 miles in a year would pay about $75. "Basically you pay per the mile. Do you think members of Congress are overpaid or underpaid? Most likely you’d go with the former, but Democratic congressman Jim Moran argues it’s actually the latter. In an interview with CQ Roll Call, Moran says, “I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid.” The House recently took up a bill to freeze members’ paychecks, placing another halt on the annual cost-of-living pay increases they would normally get and keeping annual salary at $174,000. Moran believes that this is the wrong way to go, not necessarily talking about himself in particular, but saying there

Those networks did not, however, accommodate the White House’s request. “Three sources familiar with the request confirmed the White House asked for the prime time slot in their effort both to emphasize a bright moment following the challenging roll out and, more important, to try to reintroduce the country to a law that remains unpopular,”
