A photographer sued by a lesbian couple after she refused to take pictures at their commitment ceremony is taking her fight for religious freedom to the Supreme Court. Elaine Huguenin, who runs a photography business in Albuquerque, New Mexico, refused to take the snaps for the happy day of Vanessa Willock and Misti Collinsworth in 2006. The women then filed a discrimination lawsuit again Ms Huguenin. New Mexico law prohibits businesses from discriminating against people based on their sexuality.

Comments:
I really hate homos who try to push their perversions onto other people.

A business should have the right to turn down taking on customers. "No shirt, no shoes, etc." If the photographers don´t want to do the wedding why do they have to? Should a cake decorator have the right to turn down doing cakes with lifelike body parts for wedding showers? Does a dog groomer have to do vicious dogs? It is the business that faces loss of income and possible loss of future income so I don´t see why it is a problem. Political correctness is killing this country.

Why don´t these lesbians just hire a different photographer, instead of "forcing" their views upon everyone around them?

She should turn the tables and make them confess and accept and be baptized before she takes their pictures. The couple seems to be forcing their morals on the photographer, why shouldn´t she be able to force her´s on them.

I do not care if you are gay. I do care that you keep putting it in my face, trying to force me to accept it.

I also don´t care if you are a Jehovah´s Witness, but i do get upset when you come to my door to tell me about it.

Same for Poll takers, census workers, Shriner´s, Fullers brush salesmen, community organizers, political operatives, Hari Krishnas,or whatever you are into. Just don´t try to force me to take part in your particular activity.

If she was someone who just hated gays I could see their point, but she´s not. She has a legitimate religious belief that gay marriage is wrong. The State can´t be allowed impede their free exercise of religion. How far we´ve fallen.

If a deep seated religious belief, in line with every major religious tradition through recorded history is going to result in a denial, diminishing or deferment of economic rights, then what is the First Amendment there for? Congress shall make no law....

This has come around before. My advise to the businesses is to NOT make this a religious argument.

If a business does not want to serve someone, there are options. You just keep getting "phone calls" when someone wants to talk, you are busy the day of that wedding, "something came up" as another poster suggested.

They don´t have a leg to stand on. If they find that you accepted someone else AFTER them (pretty slim chance of that) you can simply say you had a cancellation.

Then they, the courts, and the ACLU can go pound sand and the businesses are untarnished.

As a follow up, I wonder what business the lesbians are in. Wonder how they would feel, should they be, say, accountants, if they were forced to work with a middle-eastern guy who openly talks about how this country should behead gays, in between of course talking about tax breaks.

Oh I bet they would be the first to scream about their rights to serve who they wish.

This is where the Civil Rights Act went wrong. It should only have covered government interaction and not private business transactions.

One of the big problems in the Democrat controlled, Jim Crow south was the inability of black people to participate in the economy as business owners. They were blocked from starting up their own, competing concerns that would presumably not exclude their own race. Once you introduce equal competition, racism often goes away. Money is all the same color, after all. Those lunch counters often sold food to black people, they just didn´t let them inside. Introduce a black-run lunch counter that will sell to and be hospitable to black people and the all-white lunch counter might have a problem.

The obstruction of business permits was the biggest problem for black people, not the segregation. Of course, congress has to do something showy and write bad law. It´s what they do.

And now we have this. It makes no sense that you absolutely must work for anyone who asks you to. That´s a form of slavery (sorry Bashir, it is) and it should be ruled unconstitutional.

The business didn´t refuse. The employee of the business refused to participate on the basis of the yeeecck factor.

"Sexuality" is such a broad term that even that NM statute is probably seriously flawed. What they mean to say is that the State can override the Bible as to what is morally "right" and "wrong," which is clearly a slippery slope.

Since when are gays a protected class. They, the blacks, the Jews, the Christians, the backhoe operators, and the waitress serving a BLT, etc., all have an inalienable right to LIFE (that´s 24 hours in a day) liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Beyond that there is no privileged class.

This entire barrel of offal is the substance of the ERA that also smells. These decisions by the SCOTUS are equally offensive as were the Dred Scott and the obungleCare decisions.

What each individual does with those God given, inalienable rights to 24 hours in a day is theirs to choose until it encroaches on the rights of others as does the ERA, etc.

This and other situations mentioned point out why the socialists are taking over the justice system in this country. It will be the judges who decide these cases and set future interpretations that will overwhelm any Constitutional rights we may still have. And who is to stop them? Ask that of your Senators and Representatives, soon!

Since when can the government legally force any individual to perform a service (unless that individual is incarcerated.)? Let´s say...I have $20K and I want to throw a wild party at a restaurant that would create a ruckus and disturb any patrons but I promised to pay for any damages and cleaning...does that mean that the business HAS to take my business even though it really is not in their best interest? What if I were black, gay, handicapped, Muslim or some other protected class? Would that mean I can now force the restaurant to cater my wild party?? Ugh...

If you want to stay in business in this 0bama-Nation, your Jewish bakery will be forced to deliver cakes with New Black Panther and Jihadist slogans and decorations.

Your Christian-run restaurant or catering service will be forced to host NAMBLA groups ("They aren´t breaking any law; they just demand the law be changed!").

Your Roman Catholic run medical ob-gyn practice will be forced to provide abortions.

Oh, and 0bamacare? The pro-life policies that totally excluded abortion coverage will not exist any more, because they are declared "sub-standard." The pro-life folks will be *forced* to pay subsidies to deliver abortion "services."

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is facing pressure from both sides of a heated debate over religious rights, as she weighs whether to sign a bill that would legally protect businesses that deny services to customers for religious reasons. The bill cleared the Arizona Legislature last week. Opponents are calling the measure “state-sanctioned discrimination” and raising such scenarios as gays being denied restaurant service or medical treatment when a business owner’s religion doesn’t condone homosexuality. The bill updates existing Arizona law on the “exercise of religion” and protects businesses, corporations and people from lawsuits if they deny services based on a

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas.
