Venezuelan minister asks for
actions against El Universal

El Universal [Caracas, Venezuela], by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:PageTurner, 11/20/2013 3:23:41 PM

Venezuelan Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace Miguel Rodríguez Torres thinks that the government should take action against daily newspaper El Universal for releasing on Wednesday on its front page a photo of a blood stain after a crime. He made such remarks to TV channel Venevisión. The photo shows blood remains and the arm of the victim who was killed by his kidnappers. The minister encouraged the family members of the deceased to sue the newspaper as well. "This photo undoubtedly deserves a lawsuit against the daily newspaper and we will make a great effort to make it

Comments:
Going after the paper we get most of our Venezuelan news from on Lucianne.com. Seems the chavista thugs don´t like the sight of Ldotters reading all about the hellhole they have made of that country. Notice that El Universal does not sign this item.

Census ‘faked’ 2012 election jobs report
New York Post, by John Crudele    Original Article

In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington. The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated. And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it. Just two years before the presidential election, the Census Bureau had caught an employee fabricating data that went into the unemployment report, which is one of the most closely watched measures of the economy. And a knowledgeable

Latin America´s fuel purchases from the United States have doubled for five years in an attempt at keeping the economies on. Meanwhile, dependence grows despite the region´s vast oil reserves. In the case of Venezuela, in addition to delaying joint refining projects abroad, state-owned oil company Pdvsa has made no strides with the expansion of its internal refining network at 1.3 million barrels per day (bpd). The oil giant has planned three new refineries for its portfolio, in addition to the expansion of two middle-sized units. However, Pdvsa has put off inauguration days. It now wants to add some 25,000 bpd to

MEXICO CITY – Residents of Tancitaro, a city in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, armed themselves and killed nine members of the Caballeros Templarios drug cartel, a self-defense group leader said. The incident occurred on Saturday after residents armed with rifles and pistols gathered in the city’s plaza after hearing the bells at the main Catholic church pealing, Jose Manuel Mireles, a physician and leader of one of the nine self-defense groups operating in Michoacan, told Efe. Armed civilians and members of the vigilante groups in the nearby cities of Buenavista Tomatlan, Tepalcatapec and Coalcoman provided support to the armed residents

CHAMBERSBURG - Know your constituency. It´s the first rule of local politics. The second: What happens in New York City usually can only happen in New York City, and is best kept there. Policies that fit “The Big Apple” don´t fit a town that is, say, known statewide for its Apple Festival. Just ask Democrat Pete Lagiovane, the mayor of this Franklin County town who won´t return to office in January. He lost his bid for re-election — to a seat he won unopposed the last time — in part because he signed up Chambersburg as one of New York Mayor Michael

China Backpedals One-Child

Social Engineering: China says it will ease some of the restrictions of its one-child policy following its Communist Party meeting. Given the damage it´s done, this is to be welcomed. Too bad it may already be too late. After a four-day meeting of Communist Party leaders in Beijing that ended Tuesday, China announced that parents from either rural or urban zones will be allowed two children. Enacted in 1979, the intrusive policy embodied all the best leftist truisms of its day. A one-child-per-family policy supposedly was "humane." It would ensure that China could "feed itself" as well as reduce the consumption

Business leaders in the city are scratching their heads over recent remarks by Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio. Describing how he plans to govern once he takes office next year, the mayor-elect declared flatly that he doesn’t believe in the free-market system. At least Comrade Bill was being honest. “Everything you heard about me is true.?.?. I am not a free-marketeer.?.?. I believe in the heavy hand of government,” de Blasio stated matter-of-factly during an hour-long presentation to some of the city’s biggest real-estate developers. The meeting occurred several weeks before the election with de Blasio way ahead in the polls and New York’s business

WASHINGTON – Five activists are four days into a hunger strike at a camp set up near the U.S. Capitol to put pressure on legislators to pass immigration reform in the United States. Meanwhile others around the country are joining in – activists are also mounting hunger strikes in New York, Philadelphia and Fresno, California, according to the coalition of groups calling for reform. The organizers, which include CASA in Action and America’s Voice as well as religious and union groups, say that in the coming weeks Omaha, Nebraska, and Phoenix will have their own hunger strikes. On a muggy day about 10 years ago in the Florida Everglades, Jack Shealy was riding his bike along a dirt road leading into the Trail Lakes Campground, where he has worked for decades. Like any good gladesman, Shealy has a substantial portion of his brain wired to recognize snakes in places where the rest of us would see only leaves and shadows. He skidded to a stop at the sight of a serpentine form stretched out in the sun. This particular snake was not especially large—only about a meter in length. Yet the color was something different. Greenish brown with

Change: China´s communist leadership announced an unsettling mix of accelerated capitalism along with a greater centralization in leadership. It signals how little Beijing knows about what makes free markets work. The four-day huddle of China´s Communist Party leaders, whose gobbledygook official title was the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Communist China Central Committee, pretty well lived up to its billing as rule by committee — a weak one that can´t make up its mind. Each of the calls for reform in its vague, 5,000-word communique released on Tuesday — whether of farms, businesses, banks or the judiciary — was met with

Despite a strong economy attracting new international business and increasing the need for multilingual professionals in the workforce, Chile remains one of the countries with the lowest levels of competency in English among adults worldwide, according to a study released Friday. Education First, a Swiss-based education company with English language schools all over the world, created the third edition of its English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) by drawing on the test results of an estimated 750,000 adults worldwide who took English proficiency tests online, including only countries with over 400 participants in the final index.

President Barack Obama told the Wall Street CEO Council Tuesday that his administration has "reined in spending" and "cut our deficits by more than half." "After years of trillion-dollar deficits we reined in spending, wound down two wars and began to change a tax code that I believe was too skewed towards the wealthiest among us at the expense of the middle class," said Obama. "And since I took office, we have now cut our deficits by more than half. Add it all and businesses like yours have created 7.8 million new jobs over the past 44 months, we´ve gone farther

Barack Obama is the coolest president we’ve had since John F. Kennedy, at least according to conventional standards for such things. Obama has always been a brand as much as a politician, one that has been perceived as sleek, smart, and up to date. Then along came HealthCare.gov. Its failure to launch is a signal event in the long political battle over Obamacare and perhaps an inflection point in the president’s image. It’s hard to maintain a sense of truly being on the cutting edge of change when you can’t build a website. Obama’s cool was, in part, an artifact of world-class

Negligence? Absolutely. Incompetence? The case can be made. But scandalous? To suggest that the White House has willfully engaged in the intentional misleading of the public and an outrageous dereliction of its responsibilities to enforce the laws passed by Congress has been a bridge too far. Until recently. New revelations are now forcing even the most reluctant of President Barack Obama’s critics to concede that the Affordable Care Act’s implementation has evolved into a scandal. “I was not informed directly that the website would not be working, as the way it was supposed to,” Obama told reporters on November 14.

In an interview on BET last night with Bow Wow and Keshia Chante, First Lady Michelle Obama talked up her husband, President Barack Obama. "I always say my husband has got swag," said Mrs. Obama. "He’s got a little swag." The audience applauded. Mrs. Obama also said that the president of the United States "sings all the time." She continued, "Oh, yes, he’s in the bathroom all the time just singing." She also praised her husband. "[H]e has got a good voice." Here´s a transcript of that exchange:

A downbeat President Barack Obama repeatedly asked his worried supporters Monday night to help resurrect his spirits, following weeks of political disasters and personal humiliations caused by the cascading collapse of Obamacare. The distracted president railed against opponents and at one point appeared to forget the number of people in the Obamacare system during the rambling quarter-hour address. “My main message is I’m going to need your help, your energy, your faith, your ability to reach out to neighbors, kids and friends [and] co-workers,” he told listeners to the Internet broadcast arranged by his grass-roots group, Organizing for Action. On Tuesday, President Barack Obama conceded that he will have to "remarket" and "rebrand" Obamacare as public confidence in him and the healthcare law he championed has plummeted. Speaking at the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit, Obama addressed the failures of the Obamacare rollout and said while he was confident that the healthcare model his administration built, which he claimed worked off of the "existing private insurance system," would succeed, the law would have to be rebranded. “We are going to have to obviously remarket and rebrand,” Obama said. “And that will be challenging in this political environment.” When he

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) says everyone should stop talking so much about the 2016 presidential race, because doing so hurts President Obama, who´s only a year into his second term. President Obama irked some conservatives with his recitation of the Gettysburg Address, which he read aloud as part of a project celebrating the 150th anniversary of famous Lincoln speech. For the project, spearheaded by documentarian Ken Burns, a number of politicians and other high-profile people recorded themselves reading the Gettysburg Address. However, Mr. Obama´s recording seems to be the only one that leaves the phrase "under God" out of a certain line. Some conservatives took offense to the president´s reading. "Lincoln added ´Under God´ as he was looking out over battlefield. why would obama remove?" Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said on Twitter. Gettysburg

The White House has admitted that it was wrong to promise that people would be able to their health care plans under Obamacare. "With respect to the pledge I made that if you like your plan you can keep it, I think -- you know, and I’ve said in interviews -- that there is no doubt that the way I put that forward unequivocally ended up not being accurate. It was not because of my intention not to deliver on that commitment and that promise. We put a grandfather clause into the law but it was insufficient," President Obama said

When I first saw a headline about what Martin Bashir said, I figured it must be exaggerated. No responsible cable news host would call for defecating on a public figure. That’s just beyond the pale, right? But that’s exactly what Bashir did on his MSNBC show, while spewing venom at Sarah Palin. He made an abject apology yesterday, and we’ll get to that in a moment. I’ve long been amazed by Bashir’s brand of name-calling. He despises Republicans, we get it. But the highly personal nature of his assaults, while delivered in an erudite British accent, stands out even by
