When the Obama Magic Died
Wall Street Journal, by Fouad Ajami

Original Article

Posted By:Scottyboy, 11/14/2013 7:25:38 PM

The current troubles of the Obama presidency can be read back into its beginnings. Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate. The spell has been broken, and the magician stands exposed. We need no pollsters to tell us of the loss of faith in Mr. Obama´s policies—and, more significantly, in the man himself. Charisma is like that. Crowds come together and they project their needs onto an imagined redeemer. The redeemer leaves the crowd to its imagination: For as long as the charismatic moment lasts—a year, an era—the redeemer is above and beyond judgment. He glides through crises,

Pretty god piece. Ajami is too kind.
Bottom line: Barry´s baloney caught up with him and a critical mass of his former sycophants started paying attention.

This piece makes me ashamed. The American public is what Europe and much of the rest of the world thinks of us: stupid.

The band uniforms have arrived and Obama is at the footbridge waiving his baton. But the town folks have now been told the truth. "There is no band, there never was a band, and there never will be a band." Except in this story, there is no pretty music teacher who quietly stepped in to teach the boys to play.

d´RATs will abandon a sinking ship.

I hope the edge is beginning to fray, a few days ago there was an interview with a lady who attended Punahou school with Duh Wun, now this article and others today.

We will start seeing more and more 1) old school chums, 2) disgruntled former employees, 3) political "allies" who want to put their spin on things before 0bama has a chance to throw them under the bus.

As the Chinese say, may we live in interesting (but suddenly truthful) times.

What Obama and the American people have demonstrated is that "we" are literally no better and no smarter than the 1930´s Germans were.

I remember watching the 2008 Obama "rallies". Adult women all but throwing their underwear at Obama. The press hyperventilating over every utterance as if every word were divinely inspired. The press and pundits marveled at Obama´s genius without ever questioning what he was actually proposing. It was as if it was the 1950´s and Elvis had retaken the stage.

The interview No. 4 refers to is on Youtube & it is worth your while. BO´s biggest problem is he started believing his own BS. What´s the old show biz adage - always leave the audience wanting more? He´s the "magician" who stayed on stage too long pulling rabbit after rabbit out of the hat & how he´s embarrassing himself because he´s run out of rabbits & he´s down to the raisins.

I am certain Europe, for all that is worth, is frightened to death.

Our fool in the WH can bring the world economies to its knees. If he quits making Fiat Money and defaults on the U.S. debt, the world will end as we know it today.

We are a hairs breath from that reality today.

I pray that this is, in fact, exactly what happens. So many were so easily fooled by this con man and his coterie of fools. This country deserves better. If we do recover and return to values that made this country great, it will be one of our sweetest victories. To be this close to destruction and be able to pull ourselves back from the brink will be a resounding reaffirmation of our founding principles.

Disregarding all the other lies, if a white man had blatantly and repeatedly lied to the American public about a piece of legislation that crippled their healthcare in order to get re-elected, he would have been tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on a rail. Because he is black and we have this collective guilt over slavery or something, he gets a pass but, in the end, he may wish that he was never re-elected! I sure wouldn´t want to be the president that has to clean up this mess.

Can´t post on this site anymore. It´s way to twitchy. I just had another long comment wiped out. Let me try to say that many people are way to happy way too soon. Obamacare is still the law of the land, Obama seems to be able to modify or ignore any law or regulation anytime he wants to and our brave Republicans still just stand there. Obama makes John Roberts look like a piker when comes to rewriting law.

One more thing, if you think that the liberal media or the Dems are going to abandon O because of a little bump in the road, you are wrong. These people were willing to fight the Civil War to enforce their progressive views.

This is a very well written piece. Devoid of emotion, it just describes how the amateur magician surrounded the gullible with a castle built from smoke and mirrors. Now that it´s all crashing down, there is no doubt that the show is over.

The democrats who voted for this obamacare mess and all of his other dismal failures believe that they can save their own skins by bailing out now. I never bought the snake oil from him in the first place. Obama is a con man like Clinton and John Edwards. He conned even several Republicans at the beginning.

David Brooks fell in love with Obama´s perfectly creased pant, apparently Brooks´ sole criteria for choosing a president (no surprise though there.

Peggy Noonan swooned over Obama´s elegant speaking voice and dapper exterior with her precious syrupy rhetoric (gag) and Dr. K inexplicably thought for a time at least that Obama was intelligent and dignified.

Trying to return the snake oil is a sticky business; it´s hard to get your money back from a swindler. It´s even harder for people to trust a pundit again who proved themselves such a terrible judge of character in swooning over an obvious con. A con who is on videotape saying there are 57 states and pronounces corpsman like corpse....among many other serious bloopers. Thomas Sowell details in one of his columns other gross mistakes Obama has made.

Some scattered thoughts here:

#1, I don´t care about the Europe´s opinion of us because I can´t think of any country over there that is better than the USA, even in our present condition.

#21, that next president might be crazy Uncle Joe. Zero´s adoring fans are the only wind beneath his wings and once he loses them he loses his mojo. He lost credibility and his lap dogs are running like it´s their bath time.

If this emperor loses both the admiration and political cover that he´s thrived on, his lack of apparel will become obvious and he will look for a way out. He´ not a fighter, he´s a lover, albeit, of himself. The last five years he has poured gas on America and, like a jilted lover, he may strike a match.

FTA: "A president who constantly reminded his critics that he had won at the ballot box was bound to deepen the opposition of his critics."

It is now payback time. The GOP needs to let him know that they control the House because they won, too. Immigration reform should not be a rush job like zerocare was, just look at the damage speed can create.

Finally, today it´s "Illusionist" not magician, because thinking people know what they´re being shown cannot exist in the real world.

Argentina´s National Institute for Agricultural Technology (INTA) has invented a way to convert cow flatulence into usable energy, and it involves putting a plastic backpack on a cow. The two bombers who killed and maimed innocent people at the Boston marathon a year ago had come as refugees to America, from conflicts that America and her people did nothing to cause. They had been granted the privileges of a law-abiding democracy, including education, health care and the precious freedoms for which Americans have fought in two world wars. Their situation was incomparably better than it would have been, had they stayed behind in Chechnya. Among the many privileges that they enjoyed religious freedom was by no means the least important. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. The bushy-tailed visitor

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

I began reading the entirety of the first section of the New York Times at nine years old, and continued that practice, more or less, for decades.(snip) ...the power of reverence, intrinsic to what I call the “cascade” of The Times: the near avalanche-like flow and distribution of information through electronic and print networks: through like-minded network newscasts, magazines, local newspaper s, blogs, daytime talk TV, late-night entertainment, statements at media award ceremonies, the celebrity Twitterverse, etc. The cascade rolls through Saturday Night Live, Jon Stewart, The New Yorker, the mouths of third-grade teachers, Elmo, Madonna and Susan Sarandon …through

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." For the 43-year-old Republican, the Reagan name illuminates his political life´s

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter — who used her talk show platform in the last presidential election cycle to campaign hard for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — has taken up the mantra once again, calling on Republicans to give the failed White House bidder another shot in 2016. She made the suggestion during a discussion on Sean Hannity’s radio show while speaking of her new book, “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3-Especially a Republican.” Ms. Coulter also addressed the question of Mr. Romney’s shortcomings by saying that his 2012 loss wasn’t entirely his fault. “I think too much blame, not only in this

Prominent Washington correspondents are accusing President Obama and his aides of knowingly stretching the truth on issues like the so-called women´s pay gap just to create controversy and keep issues -- and the president -- relevant. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote. CBS White House Correspondent Major Garrett then weighed in this week in his National Journal
