Veterans: Thank You, Thank You
Townhall, by Katie Kieffer

Original Article

Veterans, we think about you all the time. Sometimes we fail to tell you. Today, on Veteran’s Day, we put our admiration for you into words. World War II, Korean and Vietnam Veterans. We will start with you. You fought for our freedom. You watched your closest friends fall by your side and you were heartbroken, knowing it could have been you. You shoulder the burden of painful and haunting memories. Many of you have physical wounds; you sacrificed your warrior’s body for us, people you never met. You use a cane or a wheelchair now because of your choice

We hold our dedicated troops in highest esteem and pray for their safety and success. Those who have fallen in battle.. and their families.. are also in our prayers and not forgotten. America, "Land of the Free because of the Brave" is my only bumper sticker.

With deepest gratitude, thank you Veterans for "having our backs".
Americans must promise to now "have their backs" as the government continues to renege on its promises to Veterans.
We appreciate your sacrifice for God and Country.

I am OUTRAGED!

Kentucky is SPITTING on Veterans. They are having school today instead of letting the children off for the Federal Holiday.

Where are McConnell, Rand Paul, the U.S. Representatives of Kentucky? All in DC and probably don´t know or care.

What about the State legislatures? Why are they not outraged at this?

The Liberal/Marxist/Democrat traitors have taken over Kentucky. Yes we have a Democrat Governor. Any questions?

The excuse? There are so many Holidays now that they can´t take them all off. Hey, they can Honor a single man in February but can´t Honor millions who allow the schools to be free?

SPIT!

Is it just me or are there more businesses offering discounts and free meals to vets today? Just search on discounts for veterans and you´ll also find these rewards are for those currently serving, too. Very heartening to see so many supporting our vets and active military.

To those Merchant Marine vets from WWII, most special thanks. My family still talks about how you braved the Nazi wolf packs to feed us and provide formula for the babies born during that time. What courage!

As always, thanks go to my lovely absent-minded professor sort of vet, who is not only grateful to be remembered on this day, but thanks Providence that his wife was born on this very same memorable day. ;)

God bless every veteran and every family that has stood behind them, supported them and prayed for their safe return. You are the glue that holds this country together. Without your sacrifice, we would be speaking German or Japanese. We honor your sacrifice today but hold you in high esteem every day. Thank you from the bottom on my heart. We owe you our freedom.

A-FREAKIN-MEN #4!!! I feel your outrage!! I´ve lost count of the # of Purple Hearts awarded to the men in my family. My Grandfather was never the same after coming back from the South Pacific in WWII. Never talked about what he saw, but it broke that country boy´s soul. I would make a HUGE stink about it if I lived in KY! McConnel and Paul should hang their heads in shame as well as the state legislaters!

Veterans Day comes from the holiday or remembrance of Armistice Day. It commemerate (sp) the end of WW1; a horrible world war. So, it´s a very thoughtful article, a thank you to vets. (I am one-Navy) but remember those who perished in WW1. Armistice Day.

Thank you for the post, OP.

Thoughts, prayers, appreciation, thankfulness and requests for God´s richest blessings always for our veterans and active duty military personnel and their families. Without our merciful God and these brave protectors and defenders of our freedom, we could not and would not have survived as a free Republic. Now we must have the same dedication to that same duty from our government leaders and from every person who loves that freedom if we are to retain it. The enemy is within now. "He is us". May God bless us all.

Happy birthday, #6. Thank you to your "lovely absent-minded professor sort of vet". : )

When I was in Church yesterday and we veterans were applauded and remembered for our service to our God and Country, this song came to me. I cry often at the sights of the funerals of healthy and patriotic men (and women), taken away so young from US. And, then, the connection of seeing the flag-draped coffins in the transport plane and Tom Crusie´s asinine multi-million dollar lawsuit statement.

I am willing to bet that every lost warrior today "knew´ who Tom Cruise was, including his opulent lifestyle and the guarded and secretive cult of "Scientology" he practiced that they died to protect. But, Tom would be hard pressed to say that he KNEW any one of them.

I too wish there was a way to repay those honorable Americans who fought and died for us, including my dearly departed Dad who proudly served in the U.S. Navy. They should receive far more benefits than those miscreants in Washington receive. The only thing I can do is to continue to love and honor my country and elect those who serve her best interests. Not too long ago I saw a man in full uniform in our local Walgreens and I walked up to him, shook his hand and said thank you. Those in the store applauded and it made me feel better than I had in a very long time. Such a small, meaningful gesture meant so much to him. I smiled for the rest of the day.

The real tragedy concerning veterans is the government´s own degradation of this vital part of our culture. Waiting untold months for little or no treatment from a poorly operated bureaucracy in the treatment and healing of "our finest", is unforgivable. Giving welfare cheats and illegal aliens preferential services and treatment over inactive and active service people is an act of criminal fraud. Top that off with an arrogant, vindictive imposter, Commander in Chief (who never served in the military), and you have makings of a very distorted world handed to "those who serve". Of all the different segments of citizens in this great nation, veterans, people of earned and proven respect, must use their strongest voices to expose the fraudulent hypocrite Obama and all his communist cabal.

Posting from Paris tonight. Soon after the Mrs and I arrived we were at Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral. The British Legion of Paris organized a service (Anglican) for the victims of the world wars. It ended with a " Lament " by a single bagpipe wailing down the great length of the splendid Gothic Cathedral nave, It brought tears to one´s eyes just thinking how close we are of bringing together Protestant and Catholic in this new brave secular world. If we never forget there is hope that the present Community destroyer Socialists and Obamunist/Peronist/Clintorist scourge will pass too.

#10, I´m with you. Shoot, they paid me and I volunteered. Well, my Dad, who was in the first wave of Marines at Iwo Jima, one of three in his platoon who lived (featured in the documentary The Price For Peace) actually volunteered me after his pimply faced smart aleck son torqued his jaw one last time. I deserved much worse. Something about that whole, "thank you for your service" deal gives me the creeps and always sounds so pathetically empty and fake. I really wish people would stop doing that. It was an absolute privilege to have the freedom to serve. I´m the one who´s grateful. If people really want to thank me, hell, pay off my damn house instead.

My heart is healed by the above comments. From a VN wounded vet to all- You´re very welcome.

But, never think any American wanted to die for his country. all of us wanted to live for our country. It was just the numbers. Not a one of them was wasted. They all died making it so others could live. I´m one of them. War is just so awful. But, honestly, I would gladly do it all over again. It was a good thing we tried to do. I wish you all could have known those I knew who gave their all. My God! But they were wonderful kids. I think of them every single day of my life.

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in her forthcoming book that she was “hurt” and “angry” by 2012 reporting on her fraudulent claim to Native American heritage. “What really threw me, though, were the constant attacks from the other side,” Warren wrote in her book “A Fighting Chance.” “I would almost persuade myself that I was starting to get the hang of full-throttle campaigning and then — bam! Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

With Easter soon approaching, the Rev. Al Sharpton on Wednesday drew parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of President Obama’s political career. Joining the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” Mr. Sharpton said that his message for this Easter is that “no matter what the world may do to you unfairly, no matter how you’re crucified — nailed to the cross at home, or in your personal relationships, or on the job — that you can rise if you don’t lose yourself during the hard times and the challenges.” The reverend went on to say that Christ endured so much humiliation and unearned suffering leading up to his death,

FORT WORTH — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis will undergo neck surgery today, her campaign said Tuesday. “After experiencing shoulder and right arm pain in recent weeks, Sen. Davis will have a routine surgical procedure to remove bone spurs and degenerative discs that are creating compression on the nerves in her neck,” campaign spokesman Zac Petkanas said in a statement Tuesday. “This is a common issue experienced by runners and endurance athletes,” he said. Davis, of Fort Worth, will undergo the outpatient surgery at the Fort Worth Brain and Spine Institute. Dr. Thomas Ellis will perform the

The cash infusion by the federal government is actually going to help the city pay pensions, even though they´re playing a kind of shell game with the money. As for "blight removal," perhaps they could start with city hall. Reuters: Michigan officials and President Barack Obama´s Administration are discussing a plan to free up $100 million in federal money to aid Detroit´s retired city workers, the Detroit Free Press reported on Tuesday. Citing two people familiar with the talks, the newspaper said the talks were centered around federal money flowing to Michigan for blight removal. Under the plan, $100 million

Climate change’s latest casualty appears to be fish — or more specifically, fish brains — as researchers say the carbon dioxide that’s being absorbed into the ocean is causing the scaly creatures to lose their survival instincts. In other words, the fish are losing their minds, The Daily Mail reported. The acid from atmospheric carbon dioxide seeps into sea waters, dissolves and ultimately lowers the pH balance, researchers said. The acidic waters then hamper the fishes’ sensory systems, so they’re not able to distinguish between smells any longer, the scientists went on. When the acid levels get really high, the fish lose their
