The Shocking True Story of Extortion 17
as Told by a Navy SEAL´s Father

Townhall.com, by John Ransom

Original Article

Posted By:SpeedMaster, 11/10/2013 5:55:25 AM

There was a time when America’s Commander-In-Chief held a certain poise, a refinement of manner, a humble je ne sais quoi. And nothing could be more important to the families of America’s soldiers than assurance that the lives of their sons and daughters are valued above everything except the liberty they defend. Aaron Carson Vaughn, a member of the elite SEAL Team VI special forces once wrote a note of assurance to his concerned parents about his chain of command saying, “They won’t let me die.”

Sometimes you just have to realize you will never "win their hearts and minds" and quit trying.

#2, The strategy of "winning the hearts and minds" is naïve to say the least and ignores the reality of the mindset of the enemy. It is forced suicide by a government that treasures the life of the enemy more than it does the life of a soldier in its military. Extortion 17, is an example of this philosophy gone very very wrong. As I understand it, there are many indications that these SEALs were set up. Our best and brightest were betrayed by their own government. This is an act so egregious that the government must make sure it is never known. The country owes these men and their families the truths and I, for one, hope the Vaughn´s never let this go until they have the answers they deserve. A government capable of doing something like this is a government capable of anything. God bless these SEALS and their families. Please never stop fighting for the truth.

Good. Maybe just once during this administration, a serious military policy will prevail instead of this touchy-feely "winning hearts and minds" crap. Does this administration seriously believe that "hearts and minds" will prevail trump bullets and bombs?

You bomb them into oblivion or until they cry ´Uncle´ at a surrender table.
Hitler didn´t win mind and hearts he took them then lost his crazed mind.
I hope this ´shocking´ story tells the truth about a government in love with the enemy we are at war with.

The ONLY way a war is won is when one side decides that the cost of continuing to fight is unacceptably high - measured in dead, wounded and destruction. By definition, war is what comes AFTER TALKING HAS FAILED. Continued discussion and ´making nice´ is a fool´s errand. The best way to minimize civilian casualties is to shorten the war by making it as violent as possible.

I lost a close family member in Afghanistan, and despise these leftist fools, collaborators and cowards now in charge, both civilian and military.

I´ve met VADM Harward. He´s a SEAL himself and in fact was selected by his class as the ´Honor Graduate´ during BUDs. I had no idea he said this to these families. I considered him to be one of the ´good ones´. How can he sit idly by and allow his brothers deaths to be swept under the rug? How can he allow the Commander in Chief to put our troops in harms way with ridiculous ROE?

Perhaps he is not the man he appears to be. I expect this from 0bama. I don´t expect this from a SEAL, regardless of rank.

I believe that just about everything decent in the upper echelons of the military has been ´purged´. We are beginning to see the results.

The old style command would not have allowed some of the acts committed on our military by their own government. But then they never had to deal with a president like the current one either.

The art of war is much more successful when your strategy is to kill the enemy, break their backs, and make them surrender. This surgical pinprick stuff does no good when you train the enemy to fight you and then you worry if they are upset.

During the debates surrounding the adoption of the Constitution by the several states, one commentator observed that "the government should be so small that it doesn´t matter who wins." Well, the government is no longer small, and this year, in Virginia´s Seventh Congressional District, it matters very much who wins. Republicans are not the only people in this country who are dismayed at the collapse of conviction and principle in the party’s national establishment. Gone are the days when GOP leaders would defend valiantly the principles of limited government, the rule of law, and the rights and duties of individual

The ultimate party litmus test: given a veto-proof legislature, will Republicans finally start to reduce the scope and size of government? It looks like the answer is no. In 2013, North Carolina was just one of 25 states where Republican governors were given historic opportunity to govern alongside Republican-controlled legislatures. Despite conservative voters’ best hopes, any sensible mandate to restore individual and economic freedom flew out the window when the FY 2013-14 budget was approved, reauthorizing the formerly Democratic state’s blueprint budget with a tragic 2.0-percent increase in general fund appropriations.

The danger is this: In the USA’s upcoming 2014 elections, Republican elites assume that everyone all now agrees that conservatives ‘must’ support non-conservative candidates to win more elections. The GOP is operating on the belief that everyone is on board, simply because insiders have officially decreed it to be so. However, the grassroots in the USA remains unconvinced. Worse, the Republican establishment has no plan for truly healing the actual wounds. Elites want to avoid change more fervently than they do want to win elections. Russia´s Putin has invaded his neighbor’s sovereign territory. He must and will face serious repercussions for doing so, and the international community must make the price severe. Unless we are willing to go to war for Ukraine—and I believe that would be unwise—Russia without question has the military might and geographic advantage to control the Crimea and the Russian dominated areas of Ukraine. But at what cost? Russia´s stock market is dropping precipitously and their economy is quite dependent on exports that depend on a stable Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Crimea is a tipping point event that will further spur the American oil boom. The European Union (EU) and United States in 2008 threatened to slap economic sanctions on Russia for invading Georgia. But after a while the criticism faded and threats of sanctions were quietly dropped, because the EU is almost entirely reliant on Russia for energy supplies. A similar situation is unfolding today as the EU and U.S. are again making empty threats that they will stop exports of Russian oil and gas as punishment for invading the Ukraine.
