47M Americans hit by food

USA Today, by Doug Stanglin

Food stamp benefits will be cut to more than 47 million Americans starting Friday as a temporary boost to the federal program comes to an end without a new budget from a deadlocked Congress to replace it. Under the program, known formally as the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program, or SNAP, a family of four who get $668 per month in benefits will find that amount cut by $36. SNAP, which benefits 1 in 7 Americans, is administered by the department of Agriculture and is authorized in a five-year omnibus farm bill covering all agricultural programs. Vulnerable populations will be hardest hit by

Here´s an idea. Give full benefits to the 10 million that really need it. Half benefits to another 10 million, and cut the rest.

Oh, that doesn´t work. Too many votes lost.

Will Congress quickly put them all back in the program and damn the budget torpedoes? Stay tuned.....

Hey! Let´s trade by rescinding ObamaCare for restoration of food stamp welfare program. Food stamps are cheap versus the destruction of the finest healthcare system in the world.

Obama could have the EBT card holders stand behind him as he announces that "I have saved the all important food stamp program from Republicsn destruction. And, since the ObamaCare Web site needs fine tuning, I am accepting the proposal that Secretsry Sebelius put her resignation letter; that ACA be canceled so that poor people can eat. Besides, the Republicans won´t allow you to keep your plan, doctor and hospital with the existing ACA. (He always has to lie.)

We are a family of six and with our income we maintained a budget of 100 dollars a week for food. It would have seemed extravagant to spend over 600 dollars a month on food. And there were two more of us.

Was at the store this past weekend where the person in front of me had a totally full shopping cart, but was having to sort things so that she could pay different portions with different payments. After she got all the meat and other goodies rung up separately from the beer and wine and smokes, I was finally able to check out with my mac and cheese and Ramon.

There is massive fraud and double dipping in the SNAP program. As examples, immigrants living in New York routinely purchase food with their SNAP cards at bodegas (neighborhood stores) who then send the SNAP purchased food to foreign relatives residing in their home countries where the food is then resold or consumed by those foreign family members. All over the country people are being allowed SNAP benefits to purchase food for their children meals while in reality those children actually receive free breakfasts, lunches, and sometimes dinners while they are at school. In many cases SNAP benefit amounts can be withdrawn from SNAP accounts in cash at ATMs and then be used for any purpose. In many cases the SNAP program has just become another Obama redistribution of wealth scheme.

I saw a story about a mother of two who was having her benefit cut to $496 a month, or $124 a week. If her two kids receive at a minimum free lunch at school, and probably free breakfast, too, that leave approximately $17.71 per day to prepare one meal 5x a week and three meals 9x per week. I could do this easily, with nutritious, healthy food. Nobody is going hungry nor is going to go hungry under this program!

#19 The cash on the card is not from the food assistance program. It´s emergency cash allocated to families; especially immigrants with anchor babies. Not sure if child support goes on the card.

I can´t imagine buying over $600 worth of food, never mind the ones getting nearly $2000 a month.

#3 and #21 ~ no doubt there are a lot of people who waste their money on Iphones ~ I don´t ~ always buy older models and purchase a $100 card as needed at Walmart.

On the other hand I am aware of folks with mildly disabling cases of schizophrenia (5 kinds, all genetically mediated) but they talk to themselves all the time.

Kinda like an early version of the internet eh.

Well, that´s what they do and there´s a lot of anxiety in that particular problem because people look at you.

Today, you just carry around a cellphone ~ the more costly the better ~ and even if there´s no one on the other end you can prattle on and on and on about what you´re doing (talking to your other brain hemisphere) and NO ONE LOOKS.

Otherwise there´s little medication can do to relieve the anxiety that comes with schizophrenia. I suspect you were aware of the Iphones because they had them out talking to themselves. Secondly, they were on SNAP because they actually are disabled.

No doubt there are exceptions, but nearly 1% of white folks and 4.5% of black folks have the schizophrenia problem ~ which is not all that easy to hide!

Vegetarians also have a higher socioeconomic status and a lower body mass index. Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." For the 43-year-old Republican, the Reagan name illuminates his political life´s

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
