Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, is telling a Senate panel Tuesday that states must clarify their "stand your ground" self-defense laws. The laws, adopted in some form by at least 22 states, generally cancel a person´s duty to retreat in the face of a serious physical threat. But the 2012 shooting of Fulton´s unarmed son, Trayvon Martin, 17, and the acquittal of George Zimmerman this year provided evidence that "stand your ground" laws can be confusing and applied inconsistently, she said. "By being unclear in when and how it is applied, stand your ground in its current form is far
Comments: Young Tray´s absent mother is getting used by the left almost as bad as Cindy Sheehan was during the Bush Years. Sorry lady, but: 1). Stand your ground laws had nothing to do with you son getting himself killed and, 2). Knowing the basic premise of self defense is a rudimentary element of being a good citizen, if you still don´t understand it, blame the public schools and you own parents for dropping the ball.
Trayvon Martin´s mom is skimming this to get yet more money. So far, this "absent" mother who did not give a hoot for the child she gave up at two years of age has made over a Million Dollars off the death of her son who was a thug; of course, she wants more.
What makes her an authority on Stand Your Ground Law? It had nothing to do with her thug son, was not used as a defense, so what makes her an expert? Get OUT of the lives of the good citizens of the State of Florida. Reminds me of the actress who went before Congress and created an Alar scare about apples..she testified because she had played a farmer in a movie ! Maybe Sybrina stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night! Congress is disgusting, giving this leech a platform when regular citizens don´t have a voice.
Here is your clarification Mrs. Martin. Let´s use your delinquent son as an example.
If you have a son, maybe his name is Trayvon as a random name.
If he is a fan of "Purple Lean" and is out during a rain storm getting the needed ingredients to mix up a batch.
Let´s just say in our example that he is also a fan of UFC techniques. If, in his agitated state he runs into a neighborhood watch guy just doing his volunteer job of protecting the neighborhood property.
If our "fictional" Purple Lean guy is bashing the head against the cement curb of our neighborhood watch guy, he has every reason to kill you if the opportunity comes up.
Maybe she can get on the ground and pretend to be George Zimmerman. Get a bigger, stronger person to straddle her and bang her head against the ground. "Stand your ground" means you can do what you have to to make your head stop smashing against the pavement. Got it?
The ´stand your ground law´ never came into effect. She is just denying the fact that her gang banger son was trying to bash a man´s brains out, the man happened to know how to use the 9mm semi-automatic in his legal possession.
I am sorry you lost your son, but truthfully you did not lose him in 2012. You lost him when you decided that your life was more important than your responsibility. You conceived a child with a gang member. You did not make a home for the child. You did not offer the child up for adoption in order to give him a good start in life. Rather you kept the child to generate revenue to fund your life.
´Stand your ground´ was not an issue in the case of Florida vs. Zimmerman. It was not an element of the case because Mr. Zimmerman was laying on the ground with your son astride of him inflicting multiple blows in a Mixed Martial Arts manner and method when upon spotting Mr. Zimmerman´s lawfully carried weapon he attempted to wrest the weapon from Mr. Zimmerman. At that point Mr. Zimmerman accessed the weapon and discharged it into your son, Mr. Martin.
There was no avenue of retreat for Mr. Zimmerman. Your son was within his rights to be walking on the street right up to the moment that he assaulted Mr. Zimmerman.
Finally, a little thought exercise...If your son was concerned with his personal safety on the rainy night, why was he talking to his girl friend on the phone? Why didn´t he call 911? Is it because he didn´t trust and respect the police? Did you teach him to respect and communicate with law enforcement? Or did you teach him to distrust law enforcement, a pathology that ultimately lead to a string of bad decisions which ultimately cost him his life.
Look on the bright side, Trayvon´s Baby Momma, if your thug son had won the fight and the Creepy White Hispanic guy been killed you would be broke and still in the ghetto on welfare. Now Saint Trayvon has handed you the lottery so be happy. I want to know what this fiasco called a Senate Panel is costing us in taxpayer money and wasteful spending.
#5, and others - the defense did not assert stand your ground - instead, they used the traditional self defense justification. Since stand your ground was not used, Zimmerman is subject to a civil lawsuit, and I expect this famewh*re, Saint Trayvon´s biological mother, to pursue a case.
The confusion here is caused by the judge´s instructions to the jury, where in florida, boilerplate language includes the three words in question. Durbin is just trying to divert attention from the Kenyan trainwreck.
Someone needs to tell her, in no uncertain terms (words of one syllable?) that Stand Your Ground had NOTHING to do with her son´s death. He brought it on himself by stupidly attacking and physically subduing a smaller man who happened to have an equalizer. Had it been SYG, Zimmerman could have chosen to run for it or stand his ground and deal with her son. Her son took away Zimmerman´s choice by sitting on him and pinning him on the ground.
They didn´t invoke it at the trial, #25, but they still can in a Civil suit. One of Zimmerman´s lawyers said if the "parents" tried to sue Zimmerman they would respond by moving for a SYG hearing...at which his acquittal would be relevant.
Stand your ground is a state law and not a federal law, but don´t let that stop you for your umpteenth time of fame.
What mother rushes out and trademarks her son´s name ? Where is your guilt for not being able to handle him and sent him to live and die with his father to avoid punishment in South Florida for the crimes the little thug committed ?
President Barack Obama and his family will spend Christmas in Hawaii again this year, and are expected to stay in the same beachfront Kailua neighborhood where they´ve spent the past five year-end holidays. Hawaii News Now reports the Obamas are expected to arrive around Dec. 20 and stay until Jan. 5. While Obama typically spends a lot of time at the nearby Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay, working out in the gym and playing golf, he does tend to venture out to the same local businesses each trip. Among his favorites are Island Snow and Buzz´s Original Steakhouse in Kailua,
On a break from pretending to believe they live in a country bristling with violent white racists, the Non-Fox Media have been trying to debunk stories about the "Knockout Game," in which young black males approach random strangers and try to knock them out with one punch. The left´s leading line of defense against the Knockout Game is to argue that young black males have always been violent, so, hey, this is nothing new. You´re welcome, black America! In Slate, Emma Roller wearily recounted other episodes of black-on-white violence in order to announce: "The ´Knockout Game´ is a myth." Reminiscing about the flash mobs
CASPER, Wyo. — The Power Company of Wyoming plans to apply next month for a federal permit that will allow the firm to kill a limited number of eagles every year at its planned Chokecherry-Sierra Madre wind farm in Carbon County. The decision of the Denver-based developer to seek what is known as an “eagle-take permit” from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reflects what may be the beginning of a trend, industry observers said. Fish and Wildlife has never granted a take permit to a wind developer, but is currently considering several applications, said Dave Carlson, National Environmental Protection
President Obama has declared his renewed commitment to fighting income inequality. But we now have five years of evidence to draw upon, and it’s clear that Obama’s methods in this regard have failed miserably. In fact, they’ve worked about as well as Obamacare. Obama’s approach to addressing income inequality, of course, is to funnel ever more money and power to Washington, while promoting a culture of cozy cronyism between Big Government and Big Business (especially Big “Green” Business). When having a well-positioned team of Washington lawyers and lobbyists becomes a necessary prerequisite to getting ahead, that’s hardly conducive to Main St.
CHAMBLEE, Ga. -- One Saturday in November, Kaveh Kamooneh drove his Nissan Leaf to Chamblee Middle School, where his 11-year-old son was playing tennis. Kamooneh had taken the liberty of charging the electric car with an exterior outlet at the school. Within minutes of plugging in the car, he says a Chamblee police officer appeared. "He said that he was going to charge me with theft by taking because I was taking power, electricity from the school," Kamooneh said. Kamooneh says he had charged his car for 20 minutes, drawing about a nickel´s worth of juice. Don Francis of Clean Cities Atlanta, an
Recently, a prominent Massachusetts Democrat spotted Senator Elizabeth Warren at an airport and saw an opportunity. Have you read The New Republic, Philip W. Johnston asked Warren playfully, showing her the cover of the magazine he had just purchased. It was devoted to whether Warren would run for president. Warren wasn’t having any of it. She answered with an exaggerated eye roll that cut short any further talk of the 2016 presidential race. “She doesn’t want to talk about it in any serious way,” said Johnston, a supporter. On Wednesday, Warren became so sick of media speculation that she might run as a populist
COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- D-Day arrived for Obamacare Saturday and it began with an 11-hour shutdown of the website. The system is functioning a bit better than before but is still terribly inadequate. Applications are in limbo -- many already initiated are stalled, lost or otherwise can´t be completed. Applicants eligible for subsidies must use the website, or HealthCare.org paper alternatives that can´t handle the volume and the system often can´t verify applicants´ eligibility for aid. Overall, the website still fails to complete the enrollment process for many who try. Website software to get insurance companies paid subsidies isn´t functioning and
President Obama is trying to work off some of the calories from the nine Thanksgiving Day pies on the White House menu with a game of basketball. The commander-in-chief is stepping out of the White House to play hoops at the FBI headquarters, according to a White House pool report. It´s unclear who the president is playing with. Obama, a big basketball fan, picked up a game last Sunday at the FBI headquarters after announcing the interim agreement with Iran over its nuclear program.
Conservative writer and filmmaker Dinesh D´Souza isn´t sending any Thanksgiving good wishes to President Obama this year. The author of The Roots of Obama´s Rage started a Twitter firestorm Tuesday with this missive: "I am thankful this week when I remember that America is big enough and great enough to survive Grown-Up Trayvon in the White House!" Trayvon Martin is the Florida teenager killed by George Zimmerman in 2012; Zimmerman, pleading self-defense, was acquitted by a jury earlier this year. Tweeted reactions to D´Souza´s included the terms "disgusting" and "vile."
Is the Obama White House airbrushing history? It was a hallmark of the Stalin era: Fallen Soviet leaders vanished from official photographs. Nobody accuses President Obama of such subterfuge (well, nobody except for those who believe he forged his birth certificate), but a change in longtime practice in the White House has raised questions about the integrity of images Americans see of their president. The White House has increasingly excluded news photographers from Obama’s official events and is instead releasing images taken by in-house photographers, who are government employees. These photos often appear online and in newspapers, even though they lack
A new study of methane emissions finds that the U.S. is spewing 50 percent more methane, a greenhouse gas 21 times better at trapping heat than carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere than the Environmental Protection Agency previously assumed. Several factors contribute to the accumulation of methane gas in Earth’s atmosphere, such as the burning of fossil fuels and leaks from oil and gas refining and drilling, but one contender stands out above the rest as particularly repugnant: cow farts.(snip)According to the new research, livestock’s noxious flatulence accounts for a large portion of the methane gas being released into the atmosphere.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford wonders if Barack Obama is "crazy" for the leftist policies the U.S. President is pushing. The crack-smoking Canadian has been battling a drug scandal, claims of sexual harassment and a string of embarrassing freak-outs before the press, but the Toronto politician laughed out loud about the mess Obama finds himself in. Come on, some of the stuff you guys are doing down there, to me, are you crazy?" Ford told FOX News reporter Jesse Watters for his segment on "The O´Reilly Factor" when asked about the Obama administration´s policy platform. "No, no, no, no, no," he
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The president put in his ask to Disney CEO Bob Iger at a private meeting with entertainment moguls during his Nov. 26 visit to Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation. [snip] If you have any doubt as to how much of a sports junkie Barack Obama is, check in with the entertainment moguls who attended a private briefing with the president Nov. 26 before his speech at Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale. At the end of the conversation -- which touched on a myriad of topics, from piracy to Iran -- Obama revealed what´s at the top of his bucket
