Policemen from Romania and Poland are being drafted in to help British forces combat an Eastern European crimewave. Scotland Yard has recruited the officers, who have flown to the capital for a two-year ‘tour of duty’ to help identify and deport overseas offenders. The move comes ahead of the lifting of border controls on immigrants from Romania in two months’ time. (Snip) The unprecedented move comes after it emerged last year that 28 per cent of the 300,000 suspects the Metropolitan Police arrests each year were foreign nationals, with Poles and Romanians at the top of the list.
Comments: Knowingly importing crime, compounding an existing problem. Government solution? Bring in 11 cops, hope the locals don´t mind the petty thefts, scams, rapes, etc.
Trenton — Gov. Chris Christie’s top appointee to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey resigned Friday amid questions over whether he ordered a traffic jam at the world’s busiest bridge as political payback. The Republican governor accepted the resignation of Bill Baroni, the agency’s deputy executive director, effective immediately, and praised the former state senator’s four-year stint at the bi-state agency. (Snip) Late last month, Baroni testified before a state Assembly committee that three lanes to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee were closed Sept. 9 to 13 to conduct a traffic study.
Richmond, Va. – There is a group of teenagers going around Richmond and knocking out people on the streets, Richmond Police Det. W. Cutshall said. The teens then steal whatever they want from the victim. “It’s two to three, sometimes four male juveniles knocking pedestrians or bicyclists to the ground,” Det. Cutshall said. “When they knock them to the ground, they begin punching them and kicking them and taking whatever they have in their possession.” (Snip) The victims’ injuries in the attacks have grown more serious recently, he added. In some instances victims have been knocked unconscious or lost teeth in the
Despite the reprieve granted by President Obama, most of the 800,000 people in New Jersey who have been told their health policies can´t be renewed next year still don´t know whether they´ll get to keep their plans when it comes time to renew them in 2014. Insurance Commissioner Kenneth Kobylowski told a state Senate Commerce Committee hearing Thursday that not a single company has committed to renewing the old plans yet. He was invited to testify by state Sen. Nia Gill, the chairwoman of the committee and an Essex Democrat, about his decision last week to let insurance companies decide
Investigators probing the racist spray painting last month of the small-town Massachusetts home of an eighth-grade football player are now focusing on the 13-year-old boy´s mother. Andrea Brazier, mother of football player Isaac Phillips, is now being investigated as the sole suspect in a crime that shocked the town and nation when she blamed her son´s teammates for spray painting racist graffiti all over the family´s home. ‘Knights don’t need n*****s´ was found spray painted on the side of their Lunenburg home. The school cancelled the remainder of the Blue Knights´ season in response.
Robert Menendez beamed as a West New York School elementary school was named after him this afternoon. "I can think of no better tribute than having an elementary school named in my honor," the U.S. senator said at a ceremony at the 55th Street school, which previously was known as School 3. "It´s where it all began for me and I know my mother, who has passed away, would have been proud." (Snip) When he asked a crowd of sixth-graders sitting in the back of the auditorium what they dreamed of becoming some day, they shouted out career aspirations:
Despite the bumper-to-bumper decorations, Lynda Farley says she can see perfectly fine out of her minivan. And she was willing to drive more than 100 hours and 5,000 miles to prove it. The 62-year-old Kentucky woman made the nearly 12-hour, 800-mile drive from Edmonton, Ky., to Warren County "four or five times" in recent months to fight the $56 obstructed-view traffic ticket. Today, a New Jersey Superior Court judge in Belvidere tossed the ticket after ruling Farley´s view through the windshield wasn´t hindered by the political signs and figurines that cover her van.
Sydney — A brazen bird snatched a video camera that was recording crocodiles in northwest Australia and captured fascinating footage of its 70-mile journey across the country’s remote landscape. Wildlife rangers in Western Australia’s Kimberly region released video on Monday that reveals the sea eagle’s caper. The bird’s flapping wings can be seen as it grabs the device and takes off, and the eagle later poses for a selfie, poking its face into the camera lens. Rangers set up the motion-sensor camera along the Margaret River in May, hoping to record images of crocodiles. The camera, which is about
As toll increases go, the one that starts today is pretty moderate, at least for most of us: an extra 75 cents on your E-ZPass bill to drive a car across the George Washington Bridge. But truckers are being asked to dig a lot deeper — deep enough, they say, to cut into or even eliminate their profits. And some say they are now at a crossroads in terms of their willingness to take runs into and through the New York Metropolitan area. It will now cost those who pay cash to cross in the biggest rigs more than $100, and
A black Mercedes slows to a halt and the driver hurries to open the door for his celebrated passenger. The tip of a walking stick appears first, then, as it finds the pavement, lean fingers decorated with jewelled rings can be seen gripping its handle. After a few moments the stick is followed by its owner – a matriarchal old lady wrapped against the winter chill in a thick blue cardigan. (Snip) But don’t be fooled by her congenial smile and, above all, don’t get too close ... she is also Bulgaria’s grande dame of pickpocketing and proud of her
Oakland, Calif. — The weekly meetings of Mouthing Off!, a group for students at Mills College in Oakland, Calif., who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, always start the same way. Members take turns going around the room saying their names and the personal pronouns they want others to use when referring to them — she, he or something else. It’s an exercise that might seem superfluous given that Mills, a small and leafy liberal arts school historically referred to as the Vassar of the West, only admits women as undergraduates. Yet increasingly, the “shes” and “hers” that dominate the
The first big break in the case came in the form of a single keystroke. It had been more than two months since a popular University of Michigan medical student was shot to death, and police seemingly had few leads. But on Oct. 3 — 45 miles from where student Paul DeWolf was killed in his Ann Arbor fraternity — a man in Detroit attempted to log onto a computer he’d just purchased through Craigslist. The man didn’t know it, but the Mac laptop had been stolen from DeWolf’s next-door neighbor around the time he was killed. That computer had an app
A Manhattan chef who was brutally assaulted on a pre-Thanksgiving trip to Philadelphia may have been the latest victim of the “knockout game,” he told The Daily News Thursday. Diego Moya, 30, described his Tuesday night attack in online exchanges with The News as his father drove him back to New York to celebrate Thanksgiving at home. The slender, dark-haired culinary artist was unable to speak after a three-hour surgery a day earlier left his jaw wired shut. His attackers broke his nose in several places and fractured his jaw. The thugs left him — unconscious and bleeding —
Let me begin with a categorical statement that, given current events and recent political history, can be easily defended: Barack Hussein Obama is a willful, indoctrinated child of the Left with strong Islamic sympathies who is not fit to govern. Indeed, he would not be fit to govern Lower Slobovia, let alone the United States of America. Obama is a historic disaster of the first magnitude and, if not restrained, he will see to the irrevocable decline of the country which foolishly elected him, leaving the world on the brink of a conflict — or in the midst of one — whose repercussions cannot be underestimated. Accompanying the undeniable havoc
AS his popularity plummets to historic lows and his presidential legacy is in tatters, BARACK OBAMA has suffered a shocking secret meltdown. White House insiders say the deeply depressed Commander-in-Chief is hardly eating or sleeping, hasn’t talked to First Lady Michelle, 49, in weeks and is convinced everyone hates him! “Barack is shattered that his presidency and his life are in free-fall,” says a source. “He can’t believe the American public has turned on him so viciously, mainly because of the Obamacare disaster. No one has been able to help him. “Michelle has tried everything she can to comfort him, but he just snaps,
In his 1952 book The Origins of Totalitarian Democracy, Israeli historian J. L. Talmon described a political system in which lawfully elected representatives rule a nation state whose citizens, although granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of government. The federal government has become such a system, an entity unto itself operating outside of Constitutional constraints and unaccountable to the American people. The United States is now controlled by a Democratic and Republican ruling class that transcends government and sees itself as distinct from the rest of society and as the only element that may
Early news reports have identified the Arapahoe High School gunman as Karl Halverson Pierson, an 18-year-old student. Pierson is believed to be responsible for wounding one other student before shooting and killing himself with a shotgun. The Denver Post reports that Pierson had "very strong political beliefs" and that one Facebook post he authored tore into Republicans as political party that wanted to let people die: "[Y]ou republicans are so cute" and posting an image that reads: "The Republican Party: Health Care: Let ´em Die, Climate Change: Let ´em Die, Gun Violence: Let ´em Die, Women´s Rights: Let ´em Die,
The parents of Trayvon Martin met with publishers this week to shop a book about their son, the unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed in Florida in 2012. According to two publishing executives who participated in meetings, Mr. Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, said they intended to write a book that gives the full picture of their son while tracing their own experience of shock and sorrow. The meetings were described as somber and moving by publishers who were present. Ms. Fulton and Mr. Martin were accompanied by Jan Miller, their Dallas-based literary agent. One publishing executive said Mr.
In a game-changer for the legal fight over same-sex marriage that gives credence to opponents’ “slippery slope” arguments, a federal judge has now ruled that the legal reasoning for same-sex marriage means that laws against polygamy are likewise unconstitutional. In his 91-page opinion in Brown v. Buhman, on Dec. 13, U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups struck down Utah’s law making polygamy a crime. In so doing, he may have opened Pandora’s Box. As a condition for becoming a state in 1896, Congress required Utah to outlaw polygamy, which is marriage between three or more persons. This case involved a family of
What we know: Racism has left a vast legacy of violence. Bigotry in America has marginalized a diverse range of minority culture. It dashes the hopes of children. What we didn´t know: Bias based on race costs the United States a shade under $2 trillion a year. (Snip) Addressing factors such as health care inequities, unjustified incarceration disparities, and lesser employment and education opportunities would generate 12 percent more annual U.S. earnings, the study found. Among the more striking findings cited are a U.S. Department of Commerce study estimating that minority purchasing power would increase from $4.3 trillion to $6.1
The United States named a new Full Admiral in Washington, D.C. Friday--and it´s an African American woman. She´s will be the first ever female in Naval history to win a fourth star assuming the Senate approves President Obama´s nomination. The Navy announced her nomination in an official release. Vice admiral Michelle Howard,53, is currently the deputy chief of naval operations, plans, and strategy. She will serve as the Navy´s second ranking officer, (Snip) Although when asked about whether she faces racism within the service she responded, ´Sexism within the service, and racism outside the service.´
Former Arkansas Governor and Fox News Channel host Mike Huckabee weighed in on the escalating feud between establishment Republican politicians and conservative activist groups on Saturday. Asked for his thoughts on House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) admonition of the idealized purism advocated by some outside groups, Huckabee sympathized with Boehner saying that governing is more difficult than activism and “politics is not theology.” Huckabee began by saying that Boehner was not scolding the tea party movement but conservative groups that capitalize on that movement. He added that some of those groups appear to have an “all or nothing mindset” and that
A landmark budget agreement that passed in the U.S. House on Thursday faces certain death in the Senate unless at least five Republicans step up to support it--but so far there are no takers at all. The GOP´s Senate leaders plan to launch a procedural effort to kill the plan over a laundry list of objections--including a claim that it short-changes military veterans and other government retirees. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin conceded that he needs to find Republicans who will vote for the measure after Republicans announced their intention Thursday night to block the deal. ´We need Republican votes to pass
Republicans in Congress have a general "disrespect" for women that´s reflected in their legislative agenda, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi charged Friday, adding that she applauds the prospect of America having its first female president. [WATCH VIDEO] The California Democrat said the GOP´s policy priorities — from reproductive health to the economy to the environment — are evidence they have little concern for the issues women care the most about. "[It´s] disrespect," Pelosi said in an interview with MSNBC´s Alex Wagner that aired Friday afternoon. "Whether it´s pay equity and raising the minimum wage, whether it´s paid sick leave, or whether
HOUSTON – The Houston school district board has given preliminary approval to a new policy that would prohibit offensive or culturally insensitive mascots. The new policy calls on schools to show respect and cultural sensitivity in nicknames and mascots. The use of any race or ethnic group will be prohibited, the Houston Chronicle reported. (Snip) While the new policy does not refer to specific nicknames or types of mascot, the school district has said that three campuses — the Lamar High School Redskins, Hamilton Middle School Indians and Welch Middle School Warriors — would be affected. A fourth school, Westbury High,
