Cornyn Calls for GOP Unity as
‘Disagreements are Now Behind Us’

PJ Media, by Bridget Johnson

After a shutdown fight that had Republicans in Congress taking sides against one another, the Senate minority whip put out a plea for unity today in the form of a Fox News op-ed. “In recent weeks, the national media have been obsessed with highlighting divisions and disagreements among Republicans on Capitol Hill. It’s time for GOP lawmakers to remind the American people of what unites us,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) wrote. “Republicans are united in our desire to dismantle President Obama’s health care law and replace it with patient-centered alternatives that reduce costs, expand quality insurance coverage, and improve access to

Isn´t this rich coming from someone who wouldn´t even stand with his fellow Texan Cruz during his 0bamacare filibuster. I hope he means what he says.

One more time. Senator Cornyn is under no obligation to "stand with" Senator Cruz when he believes Senator Cruz to be making a mistake. And, please remember that Senator Cruz has made a big public deal out of refusing to endorse Senator Cornyn for reelection. I suspect Senator Cornyn might be miffed.

Cornyn probably won´t have much of a primary challenge and he knows it. That´s why he joined the back-stabbers and folders.

But for him to call for unity is pretty hilarious. Those guys had some unity going and they pulled the rug out from under it. So, yeah, they get as good as they gave.

Primary elections are coming John Boy! I for one will be donating, working for and voting for anyone running against you.

Why on earth would Cruz have anything good to say about Cornyn? Cornyn was head of the party machine that promoted Dewhurst in his run against Cruz. The conservative Texan voter favored conservative Cruz by a wide margin over the centrist Dewhurst. Hopefully the trend will continue and we can shed ourselves of the, gotta go along to get along, Cornyn.

WEll, if he´s so fead-set against Obamacare, the he needs to explain why he voted to fund it. This is the same crap the Democrats pull. What Cornyn means, is ´´Do it my way,´´ because he has no plans to truly represent coservatives, Texas, or anybody but Cornyn.

Dittos OP.

Problem is we are arguing the wrong issue.

FTA:"“In other words, what unites Republicans is far more significant than what divides Republicans. The disagreements of the past month have mostly been about tactics rather than policy. But those disagreements are now behind us,” Cornyn said."

The real issue isn´t what divides Republicans; it´s what is dividing Republicans and Conservatives.

He stood with the Democrats (by voting for cloture)and that disqualifies him as a Conservative. Slapping and R behind your name does not make you a Conservative.

Borrowing from an early story. Instead of being an Ostrich with it´s head in the sand; try being Tilly on the beach and see the warnings of the coming tsunami.

I wonder if Cornyn is ready to put away the oppo research and dirty politics he used against fellow Republicans this year??? I doubt it.

I also wonder if he has apologized to Marco Rubio for supporting Charlie Crist (that great conservative now Democrat) when Rubio first ran in Florida?

Cornyn has a few things for which to specifically apologize before calling for unity. Then...we´ll see.

The Cornyn claim to be the "most conservative senator" in his latest campaign is arguably more of a ego-induced hallucination than some of Obama´s notorious howlers.

To paraphrase president Coolidge´s comment about a similar progressive poseur in the Republican establishment of his day, only in the campaign season is Cornyn seen riding in the same direction as his horse.

GENEVA – Top diplomats from the United States, European Union, Russia and Ukraine reached agreement after marathon talks Thursday on immediate steps to ease the crisis in Ukraine. The tentative agreement puts on hold -- for now at least -- additional economic sanctions the West had prepared to impose on Russia if the talks were fruitless. And that will ease international pressure both on Moscow and nervous European Union nations that depend on Russia for their energy. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called the deal the result of a "good day´s work" but emphasized that the words on paper

For several months now, whenever the topic of enrollment in the Affordable Care Act came up, I’ve been saying that it was too soon to tell its ultimate effects. We don’t know how many people have paid for their new insurance policies, or how many of those who bought policies were previously uninsured. For that, I said, we will have to wait for Census Bureau data, which offer the best assessment of the insurance status of the whole population. Other surveys are available, but the samples are smaller, so they’re not as good; the census is the gold standard. Unfortunately,

GOP presidential hopefuls are largely steering clear of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s fight with the federal government. The showdown, which left armed militia members and feds staring each other down last week, has captivated talk radio and cable news shows, turning Bundy into a conservative cause célèbre. Yet Sen. President Obama´s budget would not place the federal debt on a downward path over the next 10 years, according to projections released by the Congressional Budget Office on Thursday. The CBO, Congress’ nonpartisan budget scorekeeper, projected that if the president’s proposals were to go into effect, federal debt held by the public would rise from $12.8 trillion at the end of fiscal 2014 to $19.9 trillion in 2024, leaving the level of debt as a share of total economic output constant, at roughly 74 percent. Media Matters for America is apparently resisting an effort by Service Employees International Union Local 500 to unionize its staff. Last week, the union filed a representation petition with the National Labor Relations Board, indicating that the nonprofit media watchdog organization rejected an effort by the union to organize MMFA´s staff through a Card Check election. A filing with the NLRB does not necessarily mean that the union and management are in direct confrontation. For example, although Volkswagen tacitly backed the United Auto Workers´ recent effort to organize its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant, the company still insisted on an NLRB-monitored election. But the

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

Hank Aaron’s recent comments about the need for America to realize that racism is still very much alive and thriving — only now due to those who wear “neckties and starched shirts” rather than KKK hoods — has sparked an angry backlash and many fans are turning the tables, calling the baseball legend himself a racist. “Hank Aaron is a s*****g piece of [expletive] [racial slur],” one man said in an email to the Atlanta Braves’ front office, one of the teams Mr. Aaron used to play for, CBS News reported. “My old man instilled in my mind from a

The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
