Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he might not be good at calculus, but he knows how to legislate. Reid told The Huffington Post that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is smart, but he can’t outmaneuver the 26-year veteran in the halls of Congress. “He might be able to work a calculus problem better than I can,” Reid said Thursday. “But he can´t legislate better than I can." Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) are credited with brokering the deal that ended the government shutdown. Reid said the House’s decision to go along with a deal to end
The puerile Reid sounds like the boys--the janitor´s nightmare--in grammar school who stand giggling at the far end of the urinal and compete over who can shoot a stream the farthest, with the goal of overshooting the trough by several yards. There´s pride at stake, you see. And cleaning up Reid´s mess will be much more difficult and expensive than what the janitor, cursing under his breath, had to do with his mop and disinfectant in the Boys´ Head.
Harry Reid was a sleazy fellow when he was on the Nevada State Gambling Commission. Check his real estate deals in Clark County (Black Mountain development) with his son and some Clark County Commissioners. Reid is an old racist rat!
There are arrows left in Cruz´s quiver. The House can continue to pass spending bills by department covering no growth budgets with the already agreed upon sequester cuts. Harry Reid´s dodge of stripping defunding language does not allow him to add funding. That would require him to get 60 votes for an amendment on the floor. This show down will begin again in December, so Cruz has time to rally the House conservatives.
What that idiot Reid doesn´t understand is that the country needs less legislation not more! Unless of course it is legislation de-funding or eliminating other legislation. These fools in Congress think that the more legislation they pass the better job they are doing. Stop with all the rules and regulations you are killing America!
A prior poster mentioned how the Republican establishment´s candidate could have beaten Dingy Harry.
Well, if the establishment Nevada Republicans had supported Sharron Angle, she would have beaten Dingy Harry. Seems the establishment Republicans had no problem whipping Dingy Harry´s spawn in the government race that year.
As for the recent kerfluffle, it is obvious Harry Reid can out-legislate and out-negotiate establishment Republican surrender monkeys like Mitch McConnell who can easily be bought off with a dam.
And this is what Cruz, and other Republicans need to repeat over and over....
"Sen. Reid bragged the other day how he could out legislate me. Funny, I wasn´t looking for legislation schemes, I was looking to help the American people get out from under the Train Wreck of Obamacare. And I was willing to just take a reasonable 1 year delay, but that wasn´t acceptable to Sen. Reid and the Democrats. They didn´t care about, you, the average individual trying to navigate the legislation the Democrats rammed through without even reading. It was all about politics to the Democrats. What a shame."
We need to turn this whole thing around and blame it on the Democrats for not even accepting a reasonable 1 year delay to get things right. Show how GOP was trying to be reasonable.
Bea Arthur and Whoopie Goldberg have more masculine voices than Reid does. Also , has any one noticed that when he walks it appears he is carrying a load in his panties? he is a sick old man with a twisted mind whose 5 sons have become millionaires while working in DC as lobbyists. Has Reid ever reclused himself from a vote which his sons lobbied him?
Reid is a corrupt political animal of the worst sort. He and his comrades are the reason we are in this mess today. Until these liars and thieves are run out of politics there is little hope that things will change. They have entrenched themselves and with the help of others, they won´t go willingly.
Sorry Harry, survey says you and your cronies are on the way out. And besides you are not even in the same class as Ted Cruz, he believes in something, has a backbone, and most importantly listens to we the people!
Harry Crook Reid doesn´t have time to legislate. He´s too busy setting up his sons to follow in his footsteps and "own" the state of NV. I don´t know of one person who likes Dingy, but he still gets re-elected, so we´re stuck with him until he drops over.
After a rough fall spent trying to recover from the botched rollout of healthcare.gov, President Obama is no doubt looking forward to his annual year-end holiday escape to Hawaii. The Senate on Thursday approved the first budget deal in years that didn´t threaten to keep lawmakers working into Christmas week, leaving Obama, his family and a coterie of close friends free to depart for a 17-day trip to Hawaii as scheduled Friday evening. The vacation will cost taxpayers an estimated $4 million and fill the sleepy town of Kailua and its miles of beautiful beaches with street barricades and security
[Video] A Facebook page dedicated to defense of Phil Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” has received well over 400,000 likes since it was launched just 14 hours ago. The page was created late on Wednesday evening, after news broke that A&E was suspending Robertson over his comments on homosexuality. Within 10 minutes, the “Boycott A&E Until Phil Robertson Is Put Back on Duck Dynasty” page had 100 likes; in 30 minutes, the page had 1,200 likes. It grew exponentially from there; in three and a half hours, the page had 162,000 likes. The page states: “This page is to show support
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has released a statement in response to A&E´s decision to indefinitely suspend Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson for religious comments he made about homosexuality in GQ Magazine. The Robertson family lives in Monroe, Louisiana. “Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV," Jindal said. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive.
Three people, including a 74-year-old man, were shot to death within three hours on the South and Southwest sides in Chicago overnight, according to authorities. Adding to the toll are two teens who died Wednesday after being shot earlier in the week. The 74-year-old man was found dead inside a car around 4:45 a.m. today. He suffered several gunshot wounds and died at the scene in the 7000 block of South East End Avenue, police said. Not long afterward, another man, 41, was found dead in a car about three blocks north, in the 6700 block of South East End
[Video] TRENTON — The Democratic National Committee released a video Wednesday accusing Gov. Chris Christie of dodging questions about the George Washington Bridge controversy. Meanwhile, lawyers for two officials who resigned amid the scandal have asked for more time to respond to subpoenas from a state Assembly panel investigating the matter, according to e-mails obtained by The Star-Ledger. A spokesman for the Port Authority declined to comment on who would foot the bill for outside counsel hired by the two former executives. (Snip) And New Jersey´s two U.S. Senators — Robert Menendez and Cory Booker — have remained silent on
The man who sparked an international furor by offering bogus sign language interpretation at a major memorial service for late South African President Nelson Mandela has reportedly been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for treatment. The Star newspaper reported that Thamsanqa Jantjie was admitted to the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital on Tuesday after being taken for a check-up by his wife, Siziwe. The paper reported that doctors suggested that Thamsanqa be admitted immediately. "The past few days have been hard. We have been supportive because he might have had a breakdown," Siziwe said. Thamsanqa Jantjie gained international infamy overnight when he
The distraught family of Lee Rigby have today paid a tearful tribute to the ´brave´ soldier after two British Muslim fanatics were found guilty of his murder. Fusilier Rigby, 25, was ´mutilated, almost decapitated and murdered´ by Michael Adebowale, 22, and Michael Adebolajo, 28, who ambushed him outside his military barracks in Woolwich, South East London on May 22. During their trial Lee Rigby´s bereft family were forced to watch footage and hear gruesome accounts of the soldier being run down at 40mph and hacked to death in the street. The jury, who will be offered counselling, took just 90
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) fired away at the budget deal cut by House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Budget Committee chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) that passed the U.S. Senate Wednesday. “This budget bill exemplifies what is wrong with Washington,” Cruz said in a statement. “Nothing is getting fixed. No important reforms are being addressed. The people get little in return except more debt, more taxes, and no change to the Obamacare disaster." "The Senate majority voted to allow Sen. Reid to ignore all Republican amendments," he continued. "Over and over, this is the roughshod style
It’s not unusual for President Obama to tweet out messages in support of his signature health care law, but a photo attached to one online missive is not getting the type of hype the White House had hoped for. The blogosphere and TV pundits are mocking the picture of a young “hipster”-type man in plaid pajamas and black-frame glasses who, while sipping a warm beverage, looks off camera with a slight grin. “Wear pajamas. Drink hot chocolate. Talk about getting health insurance,” the ad says. The photo got prominent play on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” eliciting laughter from its panel. “You are
When I walk into John McCain’s office a week before Thanksgiving, he is not at all happy — and seems to be enjoying it quite a bit. He is sampling none of the usual flavors of upset we tend to associate with the Arizona senator: not the “McCain is bitter” or “get off my yard” varieties, not even the “deeply troubled” umbrage that politicians of all stripes love to assume. Here is a man, instead, who is gleefully seizing an opportunity for outrage. “I am very angry,” McCain says through a smiling grimace. He hands me a photocopied compilation of
Has there been a more heart-rending story recently than this piece from the New York Times? Oh, the humanity: Many in New York’s professional and cultural elite have long supported President Obama’s health care plan. But now, to their surprise, thousands of writers, opera singers, music teachers, photographers, doctors, lawyers and others are learning that their health insurance plans are being canceled and they may have to pay more to get comparable coverage, if they can find it. They are part of an unusual, informal health insurance system that has developed in New York, in which independent practitioners were able
Is this man simply expressing his beliefs or spewing bigotry?Either way, Phil Robertson, the patriarch in A&E´s "Duck Dynasty," won´t be duck calling on air anytime soon. The network suspended him after slamming gays in a magazine interview. In the January issue of GQ, Robertson said homosexuality is a sin and puts it in the same category as bestiality and promiscuity. "It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man´s anus. That´s just me. I´m just thinking: There´s more there! She´s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know
A&E broke its silence on Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments late Wednesday. The cable network announced Robertson is off the hit show for the time being. The network issued the following statement to EW: “We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
President Barack Obama sent Russia a clear message about its treatment of gays and lesbians with who he is — and isn’t — sending to represent the United States at the Sochi Olympics. Billie Jean King will be one of two openly gay athletes in the U.S. delegation for the opening and closing ceremonies, Obama announced Tuesday. For the first time since 2000, however, the U.S. will not send a president, former president, first lady or vice president to the Games. Russia has come under fierce criticism for passing national laws banning “gay propaganda.” Though the White House did not specifically address
The gay and lesbian rights group GLAAD is slamming ´Duck Dynasty´ patriarch Phil Robertson for comments he made about homosexuality to GQ magazine, and challenging the show´s network, A&E, to take action against its most popular star. In a wide-ranging interview, Robertson shared his thoughts on homosexuality and religion. After stating in very graphic terms his preference for heterosexual sex over homosexual sex, Robertson launched into more thoughts about homosexuality and sinning. “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong... Sin becomes fine,” he said.
Yes, she really said it. On CNN’s Piers Morgan Live Tuesday, in a brief discussion about President Obama, Barbara Walters actually said, “We thought that he was going to be - I shouldn´t say this at Christmastime, but - the next messiah” (video follows with transcript and commentary): PIERS MORGAN, HOST: You have interviewed every president of my lifetime. Why is Obama facing so much opposition now? Why is he struggling so much to really fulfill the great flame of ambition and excitement that he was elected on originally in 2009?
Everyone is doing thoughtful year-end pieces on President Obama. Writers and reporters agree he’s had his worst year ever. I infer from most of their essays an unstated but broadly held sense of foreboding: There’s no particular reason to believe next year will be better, and in fact signs and indications point to continued trouble. I would add that in recent weeks I have begun to worry about the basic competency of the administration, its ability to perform the most fundamental duties of executive management. One reason I worry is that I frequently speak with people who interact with the White
O ne year removed from re-election, President Obama´s approval rating has sunk to the lowest level of his presidency. Furthermore, Obama´s popularity among the Democratic Party base — whose rejuvenated support proved crucial last November — took a huge hit this past year. Only 54 percent of self-described liberals "very strongly" approve of Obama´s job performance, according to a Pew survey released this week. That´s down from an all-time high of nearly 90 percent, and a significant decline from the 73 percent who strongly approved of the president back in June. Why the steep drop? Well, the first year of Obama´s second term
John Podesta was just named as a new senior-level adviser to President Obama last week, but he´s already ruffling Republican feathers. In a profile published late Tuesday night by Politico Magazine, Podesta is quoted comparing Republicans to the infamous cult led by Jim Jones, who was responsible for the 1978 cyanide poisoning of more than 900 of his followers in Guyana. "They need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress," said Podesta of what Obama´s White House team faces.
Hours after we reported that Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson dropped some illogical “logic” on homosexuality during his GQ interview, his home network A&E decided to indefinitely suspend him from the show. While Robertson’s comments were hilariously ignorant, they were predictable — especially given his family’s socially-conservative, Bible-loving image. Suspending the lead character for his wholly predictable comments is not only an overreaction but a gross misstep. To recap: The Duck Commander patriarch remarked to the men’s magazine that homosexuality is on par with bestiality, and used fifth-grade “logic” to imply that homosexual men should give up their ways of choosing a
The U.S. Army War College, which molds future field generals, has begun discussing whether it should remove its portraits of Confederate generals — including those of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. Nestled in rural Pennsylvania on the 500-acre Carlisle Barracks, the war college is conducting an inventory of all its paintings and photographs with an eye for rehanging them in historical themes to tell a particular Army story. During the inventory, an unidentified official — not the commandant, Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Cucolo III — asked the administration why the college honors two generals who fought against the United States,
A&E has placed Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson on indefinite hiatus following anti-gay remarks he made in a recent profile in GQ. "We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty," A&E said in a statement. "His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely." The news comes after Robertson compared homosexuality to bestiality in an interview
The Ivy-League educated half-brother of President Obama is publishing his autobiography in which he makes the shocking claim their father dished out alcohol-fueled beatings to him and his mother and in one terrifying instance held a knife to her throat. Mark Obama Ndesandjo, 48, also uses his new book to set the U.S. president straight on inaccuracies he claims exist in his best-selling 1995 memoir Dreams From My Father and confirms they have never seen eye-to-eye because ´Barack thought I was too white and I thought he was too black.´ The self-published book, Cultures: My Odyssey of Self-Discovery, which will be
