Ted Cruz’s ‘aw shucks’
act is wearing thin

Daily Caller, by Jamie Weinstein

Ted Cruz’s “aw shucks” act is wearing thin. The Republican senator from Texas likes to pretend he is above the fray of Washington bickering, focused on large issues and too big to engage character assassination. But the reality is that Cruz is the Republican king of nasty attacks. He explodes rhetorical nuclear bombs on his opponents, only to feign outrage when his victims respond in kind, or in many cases, with relative spitballs. Take his defund Obamacare effort. The tactic to eliminate President Obama’s health care law had zero prospect of success, which Cruz undoubtedly knew despite what he sold the conservative

Jamie the coconut doesnt understand it is a process---Cruz focused naitonal attention on the disastrous obamacare --you fight whether you have the votes or no because that enables the voters to coalesce and organize and keeping the focus on the horror this POS "law" is, will eventually get it repealed. Prohibition didnt stand and neither did slavery-

Weinstein´s article is not well received at the Daily Caller, evidenced by the following --which I could not have said better myself:

The only thing wearing thin is this clown´s articles.;

Weinstein´s been veering towards the squish lane for some time, now -- this just seals the deal -- if I want to read bilge like this I know where to find the HuffPo....;

I can guarantee the real reason weinstien doesn´t like Cruz is not revealed in this article.;

Many Americans know and admire Cruz now but still have never heard of Jamie Weinstien.;

This article was stupid.;

I´m with Cruz.

It goes on from there, and it doesn´t get any better for Weinstein.

The RINOs will cave in the end as they would have anyway. The Tea Party will be seen as the only obstacle that Obama faced. That´s good enough for me. Bring on the primaries.

When Ted Cruz started, how many thought he would bring so much attention to this unworkable health insurance problem? The democrats don´t like this because they all get in line and repeat what they are told to say. Whether Ted Cruz wins or loses this fight, at least he tried and stood up for what he believes is the right thing to do. Weinstein doesn´t know what else to write about because he´s lazy and he doesn´t know he really isn´t as smart as he thinks he is.

Is it better to "stand up to Obama!" and get a lot of attention but ultimately lose, politically, in terms of ObamaCare going into full effect and in terms of Republicans´ popularity in general? I really don´t like our weakened position coming out of this whole thing. I wish Cruz had focused it all on the "ObamaCare" website - using that as the deal maker: if it isn´t working, shut it all down. That was the leverage. We really missed that opportunity here. Most Americans do not want the government shut down, all this wasted money and workers made idle. They just don´t. It is very unpopular - one poll can be wrong but ten are not wrong. Sorry but I am not on the Cruz train.

Still, Cruz pushes on, acting like he is the victim of scurrilous attacks and suggesting he is too noble to respond in kind.

Hmmm... sort of like Sarah Palin. 90% of spending on Obamacare is mandatory. The government is shutdown now. Is Obamacare? No. So what would defunding accomplish. Boehner had the right strategy. Push for entitlement reform and delay Obamacare using the debt limit. We had a clean CR with the sequester cuts in place. Elections change policy not tantrums.

Weinstein´s piece is a bit too harsh, but my question is what was accomplished with the defund tactic? We lost all that time that could have been used hammering on the October 1 startup and how deficient it was, plus there were the flying accusations from the defunders against other GOPers who didn´t think this was going anywhere, and that really damaged us in the polls. So, there was a lot of name-calling, a lot of finger-pointing, but all within our own ranks. In the end, Lee and Cruz admitted they knew the effort was futile. So what did we gain?

Sorry folks - there was no other plan that somehow Lee´s and Cruz´s plan stopped from happening or interfered with.

Not any plan was made that could have succeeded in forcing Reid/Obama to give any ground at all.

It wouldn´t have mattered, none could have forced any outcome that the Durbin-Schumer type zombie Left was determined to stop, and everyone who is against THEM is to be non-stop demonized. Doesn´t matter the alleged "plan", the names Boehner, McConnell, or Lee, Cruz.

But this way the people are fired up and involved.

The people themselves are fighting this totalitarianism.

As they should and must!

The article details Cruz´s convenient memory lapses or outright lies when confronted with his past statements against fellow Republicans.
Republicans who were minding their own business and were subjected to Cruz´s spontaneous vitriol and slander in their home districts.
Which is still inexplicable.

At the end of the first vote for Obamacare, the Republicans could (and still do) say that not one of them voted for it. The Democrats owned it.

If no one had fought against it right up to implementation, that would have been tacit agreement with the law.

The people are energized. The media is working overtime to destroy Cruz which shows you how freaked they are not only that the plan is already a disaster but that someone has been vocal against it.

If it should come to pass that right-leaning voters say "who fought for me?" then you know the folders will come out of the woodwork trying to claim that they did. Just like Graham, et. al., try to say that they voted against it when they actually voted for cloture which gave all the power back to Harry Reid. They will be exposed.

If the GOP is losing this fight than they were already losing and sucking up to the Dem media won´t do a darn thing. Best to go down fighting rather than capitulating right up until the moment they cut off your head.

#35, Ted Cruz´s wife, Heidi Cruz, is an executive at Goldman-Sachs and, as he stated in his speech/filibuster to Senator Durbin, he does not participate in the coverage available from the government. Cruz´s wife, Heidi Nelson Cruz, is a regional head of a Goldman Sachs division. This is from the NYTimes:

Goldman’s 400 or so managing directors and its top executive officers participate in the bank’s executive medical and dental program as part of their benefits, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The program generally costs the bank $40,543 in premiums annually for each participant’s family.

Thanx, OP, for bringing us this anti-Cruz diatribe from this ally of Maureen Dowd. Some L-Dotters even liked it; others (daresay I, a majority) did not. IMHO, anyone who dislikes Geert Wilders and what he boldly stands for (thanx #16) is on the wrong side of reality.

Little Jamie Weinstein can’t even be troubled to proofread his own work, informing us that. “On Saturday, he [Cruz] won the Voters Values Summit straw poll by a very wide margin.” [Jamie, it was the Value Voters Summit, and Senator Cruz took 42% of the vote, with the second & third place finishers tied at 13%. But don’t feel too bad, another person like you, Paul Mirengoff, over at Power Line, puts “Value Voters” in quotes.]

What did Senator Cruz accomplish with his fabulous filibuster? He showed America, via the indispensable CSPAN, just how bad Obamacare is. He showed America that there is least one articulate, principled politician in Washington who is serving with “a servant’s heart.” And, when he was about to be cut off, he showed that the odious Harry Reid wanted to bring out pathetic John McCain to debate Cruz (how about that bipartisanship, eh).

A few of us here may not vote for Ted Cruz in 2016, but that’s OK; you don’t need 100% to win the presidency.

Another article posted by a member of our cabal, with the rest of the chorus chiming in. If they worked as diligently against the left as they do against those targeted by the left and the Kneepad Media, their common enemy I suspect, maybe something could be get done to dethrone the boy king. They seem to share the mindset that we should all "lay back and enjoy it", instead of fighting with every fiber of our being.

As I´ve stated in the past, the patrons of this salon fall into two categories, Republicans who are actively engaged in keeping the status-quo and doctrinal conservatives. I´ll take a wild guess that the first group are dominated by those who are in the top five percent of wage-earners who thrive regardless of the party in power, albeit paying a larger tax burden under Democrats. The rest of us support those that give voice to the concerns of the rest of us who weren´t to the manor born. There are more of us than there are of them, and they´re dismayed that they no longer call the shots.

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

Dems’ midterm strategy: Triage

House Democrats, battered by Koch brothers ads and facing a grim outlook for the midterms, are providing the clearest indication yet of how they plan to respond: By shoring up imperiled incumbents and only the most promising challengers, but most likely leaving some of the party’s upstart hopefuls to fend for themselves. The strategy, detailed in nearly two dozen interviews with party officials and strategists, is a tacit acknowledgement of the ominous political environment Democrats are up against this year. The goal is to stop Republicans from padding their 17-seat edge and keep the party within striking distance of the majority

Washington – The National Republican Senatorial Committee, a group tasked with getting Republicans elected to the Senate, believes Republicans have expanded the 2014 playing field with five more contested races as the GOP seeks to retake control of the chamber. In a memo released to consultants Friday morning, NRSC political director Ward Baker writes that Republicans have become competitive in Colorado, New Hampshire, Virginia, Oregon and Minnesota since the start of the year. That´s in addition to nearly 10 Senate seats the NRSC has been aggressively targeting.

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

First, the good news: We are close enough to the end of the Obama presidency for his crowd to talk about a presidential library. Now, the bad news: Obama´s retirement is still 1,008 days distant. Plenty of time though to round up the dough to build it somewhere. Figure they need Solyndra-style money, at least $500 million. The last two presidents – Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- built their legacy edifices totally with private money. [Snip] However, Obama supporters have a different take. They think taxpayers should put up $100 million in public money for Obama´s library.

Less than 16 hours after Chelsea Clinton announced she was pregnant, a lot of major news outlets started staring into the crystal ball of Chelsea’s womb, wondering what this currently floating zygotic multicellular being meant for the prospects of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, which is also a floating, zygotic, multicellular being. Their answer: The immaculately conceived Clinton child could mean everything. And no, it’s not just the fact that having a grandchild could be personally fulfilling to Hillary and Bill (mazel tov, by the way), or that a cute baby would be a sweet cherry on top of Hillary’s already
