Man died after overdosing

A man died from an enormous caffeine overdose after snacking on high-energy mints - each of which is as powerful as a can of Red Bull. John Jackson, 40, ate Hero Instant Energy Mints, unaware they could kill him. Each mint contains 80mg of caffeine, equivalent to a can of Red Bull, but are sold alongside normal mints. Coroner Robin Balmain recorded a verdict of accidental death but said he intends to write to the Department of Health highlighting the dangers of energy sweets. He said at the hearing: “It seems to me to be something the authorities need to know

He unknowingly ate too many Hero energy sweets. This may be something parents need to be aware of to warn their teens and younger children.

At least no one denied him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation with that fresh, minty breath.

The pathologist is claiming that a mere 155mg of caffeine killed this guy.

That´s two cups of coffee.
He was in very poor health.

I´ve taken as much as 300mg of caffeine in pill form at one time.
Still breathing, last time anyone checked.

(I never drink coffee; it does not agree with my digestion. Sodas are sugary and
way too expensive, and Red Bull is ridiculously overpriced.)

I think caffeine content should be more prominently displayed on all foods,
including our most common popular sodas, than it currently is.
You have to look for it to locate the contents in milligrams.

Otherwise, what´s the problem?

Those who are very sick already should be more careful, obviously.

Don´t confuse the 155mg in his system with the amount he consumed. That was how much was left after the body processed it. With a faulty liver, it´s hard to know how many of those mints he had eaten.

Caffeine can affect a number of body systems. In a normal person, it´s not usually a concern, but it can be a problem to those with preexisting conditions.

I think, too, that caffeine affects different people differently just as is true of some medicines, alcohol, etc..
My husband can drink several cups of strong coffee without side effects. Too much caffeine makes me jittery, and, while it keeps me wide awake, he has no trouble sleeping after drinking it.

Little children shouldn´t have easy access to these types of "candies" - couldn´t be good for them even if it didn´t kill them.

He died from 155mg of caffeine? What did he weigh? 20 lbs???

I got up at 3 am today.

Just today, I drank 2 20-oz Mountain Dews (90mg each), and at least 5 cups of coffee, (a conservative 45mg each)

That´s 405 mg of caffeine total. My butt is dragging and I ready to go to bed! (It´s 8 PM here now). I´m still alive,,,,, at least I think I am.

Reading the lede, I thought, wow, this guy´s heart must have exploded!

Then I read all your comments about the amount of caffeine he actually consumed.

I´ve concluded he probably got hit by a bus.

Maybe he had other sources of caffeine that day along with the mints. When he became nervous and jerky, he should have stopped.

Everyday you get up and make choices. However, there is a problem here because children can buy sources of caffeine almost everywhere, including dollar stores.

Another crisis the left won´t let go to waste.Never mind that people drink billions of gallons of coffee all the time.I guess it´s been about 6-7years ago they targeted ephedra for elimination because a few overweight people got jacked up and had heart attacks.Even though incidents are miniscule compared to the overall population, the health nazis can´t let a good thing pass.

If they ban energy drinks and pills, I guess that means the end of headache pills that are loaded with caffiene.

I wouldn´t even call a caffiene buzz, energy. What caffiene does is artifically stimulate the adreanal gland´s fight or flight response in a low grade manner.

Documents recently released by the government show that the value of hotels and local transportation contracts for the U.S. delegation to Nelson Mandela´s funeral in December were considerably higher than previous estimates. On December 19, we first reported the cost at about $11 million. However, rather than two hotels and one vehicle contractor, additional contracts have been disclosed bringing the total to five hotels and two vehicle contractors. The transportation contracts include passenger vehicles, SUVs, vans, buses, pickup trucks, box trucks, and "larger capacity vehicles," but do not include the cost of travelling from the U.S. to South Africa and back.

Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations.
