If a government shuts down in the forest and nobody hears it, that’s the sound of liberty dying. The so-called shutdown is, as noted last week, mostly baloney: Eighty-three percent of the supposedly defunded government is carrying on as usual, impervious to whatever restraints the people’s representatives might wish to impose, and the 800,000 soi-disant “non-essential” workers have been assured that, as soon as the government is once again lawfully funded, they will be paid in full for all the days they’ve had at home. But the one place where a full-scale shutdown is being enforced is in America’s alleged

From now on take a firearm with you when you enter a "national" park. Don´t trust your Park Ranger - he/she is another street corner agitator in uniform. I blame this mess on weak kneed Republican Establishment cowards (McCain, Romney, Rove, Ryan, Bush etc) who refused to hit Obama between his eyes for fear of being called racist! These bozos were intimidated!! Now, we have this Mulatto thug who declares himself Black for protection. Obama is a coward! He kicks his white relatives under the bus. And, this guy is our President - what a sorry mess America is in due to intimidated cowards.

There was a study done some years ago where subjects were told to push a button and control an volume meter to shock people (non existent but a voice over a speaker was supplied) for wrong answers. It was shocking (pun intended) how people would inflict harm on others when an authority, supplied in the study, ordered it.

We´re seeing it in the park police.

Shocking, no?

If I walk out my back door to the back of my property and then take one more step I am on federally managed land, land managed by the BLM. So, I hope no BLM law enforcement officer is around when I walk out said back door tomorrow and start cutting wood with my permit which was purchased a couple days before the "shutdown". Gosh, I´m so terrified I just might not leave my house via the back door in case I accidentally wander onto King barry´s 1.4 million acres that is adjacent to mine.

Here´s the problem. The dems learned from the Newt shutdown what caused them to lose but the republicans didn´t.If they had in the back of their mind a shutdown was possible, they should have attached parks spendng to another must pass bill like HHS or State dept.
So it was a no brainer for Obama and his goons to make life hell on tourists. It´s about the only thing the average person cares about in government.

There´s no excuse for property owned by citizens to have their access denied to them.I think the Constituion says the only property the fed government can own is land that houses a government office. The endangered species act has really empowered the left to do all sorts of land grabs and they´re still trying to use it to kill oil and gas production all over.

If all the non-essential federal workers sitting at home now will be paid in full later then they should be ordered back to work immediately with the same assurances that they will be paid later. Is there a hole in this logic?

Perhaps some enterprising WH correspondent can ask Carney about this on Monday. I´d like to hear how he defends having federal workers staying home with pay.

Oh yea, I almost forgot, federal workers predominately vote for Democrats. Veterans don´t and little girls waiting for NIH cancer trials certainly don´t vote.

Be sure to click over to page 2 of this article. Steyn points out that in 1217 King Henry III signed the Charter of the Forest, which "opened the royal forests to the freemen of England, granted extensive grazing and hunting rights, and eliminated the somewhat severe penalty of death for taking the king’s venison....it is somewhat sobering to reflect that an English peasant enjoyed more freedom on the sovereign’s land in the 13th century than a freeborn American does on “the people’s land” in the 21st century."

The Park Service has several problems. 1) Structurally it has always been authoritarian and since there are few comparable private sector jobs employees are particularly vulnerable to coercion if they don´t want to follow orders. 2)This is overlaid upon the common problem all stewards and trustees fall prone to- coming to believe they own what has merely been placed in their care for the benefit of others. 3) Finally there is the mission shift over the last three decades away from serving visitors to wilderness preservation. That has result in the hiring of people with a far different attitude towards taxpayer guests.

A complete housecleaning is on order.

President Obama is expected to nominate former Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson as the next Homeland Security secretary, ABC News has learned. The Department of Homeland Security has been without a Senate-confirmed leader for six weeks, and from the start some Republicans were calling on the administration to "swiftly" nominate a new secretary. The White House has largely ignored such calls, as DHS has moved forward with top-agenda items even through the government shutdown. Ann Arbor, Mich. - Want to see how quickly the look and business model of American public universities are changing? Visit a place like Indiana University. Five years ago, there were 87 undergraduates from China on its idyllic, All-American campus in Bloomington. This year: 2,224. New figures out Monday show international enrollment at U.S. colleges and universities grew nearly 6 percent last year, driven by a 23-percent increase from China, even as total enrollment was leveling out. But perhaps more revealing is where much of the growth is concentrated: big, public land-grant colleges, notably in the Midwest.

Washington - It´s not just the economy, stupid. It´s the demographics - the changing face of America. The 2012 elections drove home trends that have been embedded in the fine print of birth and death rates, immigration statistics and census charts for years. America is rapidly getting more diverse, and, more gradually, so is its electorate. Nonwhites made up 28 percent of the electorate this year, compared with 20 percent in 2000. Much of that growth is coming from Hispanics. The trend has worked to the advantage of President Barack Obama two elections in a row now and is not lost on Republicans

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either.
