If anyone is surprised about the government shutdown, Sen. Chuck Schumer said the tea party had it planned “almost a year and a half.” “The tea party was planning almost a year and a half before it happened. The issue of Obamacare is almost incidental. The real issue is they have almost a principle that they wanted to shut down the government because they hate it so, and that’s astounding,” Schumer said on CNN’s “New Day.” Schumer went further to say it was “meticulously” planned and that Speaker John Boehner has conceded to go along with it. “So anyone who thinks this is
Amazing how a group of ignorant southern rednecks can bring together such an awe inspiring plan of action. So Chuckie, which is it? The TEA party is a group of no account country bumpkins who are of no regard or they are a really intelligent group of political pundits who have learned a lot watching your party and the way you work. Go eat your pizza with extra cheese.
The New York Times had a pretty detailed and sourced article yesterday that the shutdown to defund Obamacare had been planned at an meeting early in 2013 spearheaded by the Koch brothers , Jim DeMint ( Heritage Foundation ) and Reagan´s former AG , 82 yr old Ed Meese. The participants acknowledged the meeting and strategy session, but , refused to reveal the DC location. Boehner was not a fan of shutting down the government over Obamacare due to the still insurmountable and overwhelming Democrat Senate majority . Plus, he had negotiated a good deal for Republicans on a CR , to the Senate Democrats´ dismay, so it does not look like Boehner was originally part of the scheme.
I, honestly ,am not sure which creepozoid I despise the most..Dingy Harry or UpChuck Schumer....Gaaaawd!!!!! there is a word for CS that I dare not say...or I would be banned for life ..not worth it...
Wow, what a shut-down. 83% of the gov´t still functioning. Everyone will get back-pay too.
The Democrats have not passed an actual budget in the Senate since Obama was elected.
A CR allows them to escape actual votes on real budget items. It allows Democrats to claim they care, when they don´t.
It´s why I was okay with a budget showdown, and the House passing 18 separate bills to send to the Senate.
The only thing holding up the gov´t from opening up is Senate Democrats and Obomination.
The debt ceiling should be framed as, "democrats have run up $6 trillion in new borrowed money with no "investments" to speak of, with hardly anyone put back to work in those "shovel-ready" jobs, and the economy still barely growing. They´ve just been reckless." "We´ve been ready to grow this economy but the Democrats keep pushing it down."
Yeah. 83% of Government is still functioning. So that means its a "17% shutdown" Sounds good to me. All we have to do is pass a few bills to counter the Obama "spite" shutdowns and in a few years we might have the Government under control of the people.
Careful No. 20. They will try to blame it all on Texas. They jump at anything these days. Makes me proud though, to be from Texas. I am sadden for the United States to know that there are many people that believe what these idiots like schumer say.
So, it´s the Koch brothers and the Heritage Foundation? Wow #7, anymore Conservative bogeymen you want to squeeze in there? You might want to consider the source...
This is so ridiculous. On the one hand the Libs say the Tea Party people are morons, and on the other side they´re evil geniuses.
The funniest part of all is that the Tea Party, such as it is, is a loosely organized group of many different groups with no recognized leader or headquarters. Essentially, we´re just average citizens who are being patriotic by dissenting. It was OK when they did it, but now it´s not. Hypocritical Chuckie? You betcha!
I suspect that instead of threatening their children with the bogeyman they have them terrified of Grandmas with lawn chairs and American flags. Maybe they should be afraid..you never know what we might be up to next....
It is funny watching #7 do the Potomac Two Step essentially agreeing with Chuck Schumer. Its almost as if the Republican Establishment has agreed with the democrat party with what the talking points for the day are.
Further proof that the Republican Establishment is trying to find a way to capitulate, but that dang Tea Party (which has died a thousand deaths) somehow keeps making them tear up the white flag and fight.
President Obama has found someone to blame for the Affordable Care Act´s rolling failures besides Republicans. ObamaCare is the government´s fault, not his. On Thursday, Mr. Obama dropped by American University for a heart to heart with Chris Matthews, and the MSNBC host wondered who in the executive branch is responsible for the botched health-care rollout. Mr. Obama listed a few impersonal culprits including "cynicism," "Washington gridlock" and "the management of government," but he then drifted into another classic. "The challenge, I think, that we have going forward is not so much my personal management style or particular issues around White House
Jobs Report: November´s numbers were stronger than expected, a phrase rarely uttered since this president took the economic reins. But while a bigger number is always better, one good month now and then won´t cut it. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the economy created 203,000 jobs in November, 196,000 of which were in the private sector. Now at 7%, the unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level in five years. What´s more, unlike in previous months, the rate´s drop came from gains in employment, not from people dropping out of the labor force. The labor force participation rate actually
Executive Orders: A liberal constitutional scholar warns of the concentration of power not only in the hands of one branch of government but in a single man who ignores the Constitution and acts of Congress on a whim. As the story goes, Benjamin Franklin emerged from Independence Hall at the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on Sept. 18, 1787, when a woman asked, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" Franklin is said to have replied, "A republic, madam — if you can keep it." The Founders designed a system of checks and balances among three
Most presidents have politically troublesome relatives: Jimmy Carter had colorful brother Billy, Bill Clinton had brother Roger, and the George Bushes had son/brother Neil, who was involved in both the savings-and-loan scandal of the 1980s and Asian "sex romps" that emerged in a messy 2003 divorce. Obama has a passel of half-siblings, but his requisite nettlesome relative may turn out to be an uncle, Onyango (Omar) Obama. In August 2011, Uncle Omar was pulled over in Framingham, Mass., for driving under the influence. His arrest revealed both several outstanding orders for his deportation and his relationship to the
RUSH: Here is Wolf Blitzer. Last night on The Situation Room, Wolf Blitzer had in Fareed Zakaria GPS. I guess Fareed had his location device with him. He calls himself "Fareed Zakaria GPS." When you´re with him, I guess, you always know where you are. And they´re talking about the impact of the passing of Nelson Mandela, and this is classic. Listen to Wolf here... BLITZER: Is it overly naive to hope and pray that maybe the death of Nelson Mandela will inspire some of those world leaders out there right now to do the right thing, to recognize that bloodshed and
WASHINGTON — Without Nelson Mandela, there might never have been a President Obama. That is the strong impression conveyed from Mr. Obama, whose political and personal bonds to Mr. Mandela, the former South African president, transcended their single face-to-face meeting, which took place at a hotel here in 2005. It was the fight for racial justice in South Africa by Mr. Mandela that first inspired a young Barack Obama to public service, the American president recalled on Thursday evening after hearing that Mr. Mandela, the 95-year-old world icon, had died. Mr. Obama delivered his first public speech, in 1979, at
RUSH: We mentioned earlier that Obama didn´t know that Obama was living with his uncle, who happened to be an illegal alien at the time. Here´s Jay Carney. This is yesterday afternoon in Washington the White House at the daily briefing. Ed Henry, the Fox News White House correspondent, said, "The White House said that in 2011, that there was no record of Obama and his uncle, Omar Obama, ever meeting. Now the Boston Globe is being told by the White House -- and I assume you can elaborate here, Jay -- that, in fact, they not only met, but
One consequence of the botched launch of Obamacare is that it has, judging from his plummeting numbers with “millennials,” diminished Barack Obama’s cool. It’s not merely that the website isn’t state-of-the-art, but that the art it’s flailing to be state of is that of the mid-20th century social program. The emperor has hipster garb, but underneath he’s just another Commissar Squaresville. So, health care being an irredeemable downer for the foreseeable future, this week the president pivoted (as they say) to “economic inequality,” which will be, he assures us, his principal focus for the rest of his term. And what’s
This column has made the point before that there are three phases of the ObamaCare catastrophe. Phase 1, the technical failure, might have been avoided had the administration had some basic standards of competence. But Phases 2 and 3 are inherent in the law. Phase 2 was the revelation that the ObamaCare enterprise is the most massive consumer fraud in American history--that the "if you like your plan, you can keep it" sales pitch was not only false but deliberately deceptive, and also that ObamaCare forces insurance companies to engage in dishonest practices such as selling maternity coverage to men and
RUSH: Now, ladies and gentlemen, you can´t escape the media and what´s going on here, and it´s all very predictable. If you just landed from Mars and turned on the TV, you may be confused over who was Barack Obama and who was Nelson Mandela, based on the way it´s being covered. Well, I´m just telling you. The Washington press corps and even the White House are moving here at full speed to associate Barack Obama with Nelson Mandela. Here, grab number three. This just gives you a taste of it here. This is Scott Pelley on the CBS Evening
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
Incompetence: Mr. President, you might not remember her, but Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is the one running the disastrous ObamaCare launch. You once met her. You two should get acquainted. Jimmy Carter was the most infamous micro-manager to be president, pestering commanders of the ill-fated 1980 Iran hostage rescue mission by two-way radio, and personally reviewing White House tennis court schedules. As to the opposite, Ronald Reagan was relentlessly accused of being out of touch. "Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don´t interfere as long as the policy you´ve decided upon is being carried
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
DAVID CORN: I saw a president who remains frustrated with the political-media culture that he has to work within, and that he´s looking to rally people, students here, and supporters, and people within the media. CHRIS MATTHEWS: But David Corn, you skeptic. He came to us today. He came amongst us. CORN: He´s trying to rally people behind this vision that he´s been promoting for a couple years. FINEMAN: By the way, he did it the end here, today, Chris, not by defending specifics, but by explaining why he´s in the game to begin with. And I don´t know about you, he´s
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
The most curious thing of all about the November jobs report released on Friday was the huge drop in the unemployment rate — and the fact that the Labor Department chose not to disclose that the data going into that figure are under investigation for falsification. On Nov. 19, I broke the news in my column that the Census Bureau, which collects data that goes into the jobless rate on behalf of Labor, had caught one of its enumerators fabricating interviews in 2010. The culprit said back then (and to me during an interview) that he was told to do so by

Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
One definition of a pathological liar is someone who lies where the truth would serve just as well. When President Obama’s uncle, Onyango Obama, was arrested in 2011 for drunk driving, the truth — that Obama had stayed with his uncle years earlier for several weeks as a Harvard law student — would have served the president just fine. No potential Obama voter would have held it against him that an uncle he had stayed with two decades earlier was picked up for DUI. Yet the White House went with a lie, claiming that Obama had never met his uncle. Now that
