The New Face of Prejudice
Wall Street Journal, by James Taranto

Original Article

"If you want to understand why the government is shut down or why elected Republicans would even consider doing something as reckless as using a debt default to extract policy concessions from the White House--without necessarily even knowing which policy concessions they want--Stan Greenberg has a memo for you," writes Francis Wilkinson, a Bloomberg View editorial board member. Of course if you begin with the supposition that Republicans are "reckless" and ignore the fact that debt-ceiling brinksmanship is nothing new, what you want is probably to have your prejudices

Excellent dissection of the liberal mind at work, by James Taranto.

Projection is at the heart of how liberals operate. They assume bad motives out of those that disagree with them; and they have to--because they know their own motives are base. Liberals have internalized this projection so strongly that they conduct bad behavior under the guise that, "Our opponents would have done that anyway, so we need to do it to even things out." From election fraud, to Obama´s negotiating in bad faith, to accusing their opponents of racism, liberals conduct themselves in a way that would shame them, if they actually felt shame.

This week Liz Hurley´s ex-boyfriend Tom Sizemore made sensational claims that the actress had a secret affair with former President Bill Clinton. Sizemore has now dismissed the allegations as drug-induced ramblings, saying that he has never met Clinton and never gave him Hurley´s phone number. But while the claims may have proven false, the Daily Mail can reveal a striking resemblance between Hurley and Clinton´s former lover, Monica Lewinsky.

This week, a report from the Congressional Budget Office acknowledged that ObamaCare would reduce full-time employment by 2.5 million over the next ten years. And that is on top of news that 92 million Americans who could be working are not. What a devastating assessment for the unemployed or underemployed, particular millenials seeking to transition from internships and part-time jobs to career-building full-time jobs. Yet the predictable spin from the White House and major media outlets is that this is good news, liberating workers from the chains of employment. To quote President Obama, from the 2008 campaign, "You can put lipstick

"Don´t leave money on the table," Michelle Obama told students at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia this week, seeking to put as many people as possible on the receiving end of a government check. Nothing builds the Democrats´ voter base faster than the widespread ability to raid other taxpayers for support. How widespread? "Almost everyone is eligible for some form of financial aid, and all you have to do to access that aid is fill out this one little form. It´s so simple." Simple, as in one-stop shopping, all the better to build that constituency for OPM (other people´s money).

The IRS scandal is so bad that Democrats are unleashing total war in an attempt to beat back a full airing of the abuse. The old adage, "The best defense is a good offense," is all the more valid when the major media outlets are on their side. It is not necessary to have any actual facts to use as rebuttal for the indefensible; it is enough to simply throw a cloud of dust, so as to discredit any charges - in the eyes of supporters and media sycophants. President Obama´s absurd contention to Bill O´Reilly that there was "not a

So let me get this right. Team Obama taxes millionaires who create jobs, while ObamaCare creates incentives not to work at those jobs. No wonder recovery´s so anemic. The policy here is to create fewer jobs and induce people to work less at those jobs. If my logic is correct, this runs counter to the basic principles of our economy and our country. I thought the American Idea had something to do with work, family and opportunity. But what I see from the Obama administration is policies that undermine these virtues. Here´s a contrasting vision. Immigration: John Boehner´s reform "standards" are backfiring, perhaps putting his speakership in peril. Democrats will compare his "path to noncitizenship" to Jim Crow. The immigration reform hard sell is on. Boehner may appear to have dropped the issue for now, but a Silicon Valley-backed group launched a slick $750,000 TV ad campaign claiming that "House Republicans have a conservative solution to fix our broken immigration system" with "No Amnesty." In calling for "people who are living and working here illegally to come forward and get right with the law," the "standards for immigration reform" put forth by House Republican leaders offer a

Foreign Policy: President Obama´s "smart" diplomacy was supposed to bring the world back to our side after eight years of George W. Bush´s cowboy diplomacy. Instead, it has brought ineptitude and cronyism. ´America is back," the president crowed in his 2012 State of the Union speech. Based on what he had gleaned from world leaders, "opinions of America are higher than they´ve been in years." Two years later, such braggadocio sounds ridiculous. Indeed, the State Department under Obama is turning into a global laughingstock as he puts forward a series of incompetent political cronies for key diplomatic posts, showing disrespect for allies

Professor John McWhorter claims removing commas from most modern U.S. texts would cause ´little loss of clarity´ - meaning they may now be in a state of obsolescence. He adds that internet users are becoming increasingly carefree in their use of the punctuation mark - with some professional writers following suit, according to The Times. ´[You] could take them out of a great deal of modern American

TWENTY-ONE years ago, when I first heard Mia Farrow had accused me of child molestation, I found the idea so ludicrous I didn’t give it a second thought. A private girls´ school in Northern California wanted to incorporate Black History Month into lunch time, so it decided to serve fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread. As the Associated Press reports, school officials are apologizing because that was a really, really horrible idea. The school´s principal wrote a letter to parents, who were offended, and said the school doesn´t "perpetrate racial stereotypes." Unfortunately, that´s exactly what they did. In honor of Black History Month, we´d like to explain exactly why your fried chicken and watermelon lunch is ill-advised, with the hope that people will find better ways to honor this

Geraldo Rivera took on Bill O’Reilly Friday night over whether O’Reilly was disrespectful to President Obama in their big Super Bowl interview. Rivera gave O’Reilly some benefit of the doubt, but other than that thought O’Reilly was a bit too confrontational and didn’t give Obama the kind of respect a president normally deserves. Rivera argued it was less like an interview and more like a meeting of the minds with the “President of Most of the White Guys of America” (O’Reilly) against the president of the rest of the country, and told O’Reilly that it was out of line for him

There´s been a lot of blathering about who the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination is, and so far I´ve resisted taking part. But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage. He brokered a budget deal with Patty Murray that was businesslike and low-drama but didn´t alienate the tea
