Some Catholic priests under contract or GS (general schedule) to the military are not allowed to offer Mass or perform weddings, baptisms, and other religious functions on military property during the government shutdown, and if they do, even on a volunteer basis, they risk being arrested, according to the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. About 25% of the U.S. military is Catholic, some 275,000 service members, but there are only 234-active-duty priests. To fill the gap, contract or GS priests are brought in. But under the rules of the shutdown, many of those priests cannot
A moment of truth for our military is fast approaching: is their first allegiance to the Constitution, or is it to the Emperor? The fate of our republic depends on their choice. The souls of all who shed their blood for liberty are watching.
There is a higher power than the incompetent ignoramus at 1600 Penn and the Fools on the Hill. The priests should go ahead and hold their Masses and dare the MPs to arrest them. It would make for great video and would be just the type of publicity the Regime doesn´t want.
If authorities can penalize a priest for invoking Jesus in a general prayer setting (where rules say to be generic to avoid alienating members of any religion), then they can penalize a priest for offering Mass on base after being told not to. Both are unconstitutional as hell, in my view; but the gubm´nt who has done the former is certainly capable of doing the latter.
That said, a priest is supposed to be willing to risk his life to preside at Mass for the Catholic community (even if it´s just one or two other people). And over the years many have paid with their lives in the effort to fulfill that duty. Saint Miguel Augustin Pro was executed by Mexican authorities when he was caught sneaking into the country when the Communist government outlawed the exercise of priestly ministry during the Christeros revolt. (His public execution at the hands of a firing squad was captured on film for all of history.)
#18, Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J. hasn´t been canonized yet. JPII beatified him in 1988. Hoping Papa Francis will formally canonize Padra Pro soon. Many Catholic priests may have to follow in his shoes. God help us!
What the deuce? I made my First Holy Communion on Mother´s Day 1962 on an ARMY base in France! This country has been flushed down the toilet bowl!
Dear Daddy, My Earth Father who art in Heaven I´m at a loss for words to say to you what has and IS happening to the country that our family went to war to maintain, and your grandsons today fight to defend. Please stand beside her and guide her. I beg my Heavenly Father to do so. What is happening around us has a lot of dumbed down people hurling insults at the GREATEST GENERATION
#10 - The Oath of Enlistment is as follows: I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
Plain reading of this oath places the president 3rd in line as to who/what they swear to follow.
Father Jerzy Popieluszko, was a skinny, hard-working parish priest, who said the first mass in 1980 in Communist Warsaw at the steel plant for the striking workers of the Solidarity Movement. He became a symbol to the Polish people of someone who tried to fight evil with faith, non-violence and love. Of course, the Polish Government took notice and tried to destroy him and eventually he was beaten to death in 1984. At his funeral 400,000 people came to pay their respects.
I think some of these priests should risk saying mass in the United States during the shutdown. I cannot imagine there is an legitimacy in an order preventing them from acting as priests.
Someone should put together a list of all the insane things that are being imposed in this shutdown which were not imposed during the last shutdown. As despicable as Clinton was, he wasn´t as dastardly, vindictive and sadistic as Obama and his ilk are. Having a list of the differences would show exactly which things are inventions by Obama to exacerbate the situation for political gain.
The Cardinal George of Chicago has said ..."He will leave the world respected. His successor may be jailed. And his successor´s successor may be murdered." So priests and bishops know this is coming. As some have posted, the priests should say the Mass and "suffer" the consequences. This will affect not only the military but parishioners in every Catholic church in this country. It reads like Poland, China, USSR. Prepare yourselves.
The president has no authority to issue any such order, morally or otherwise. When will the Congress, both sides, stand up to stop this usurpation of illegal power? This is a nation founded on Christian principles, and Holy Scripture underwrites our beginning. No pseudo-Christian can change that. Knowing God is with them is as important to our combat troops as their weapons are.
To a Liberal, freedom of religion means freedom from religion.
After all, well-informed people like themselves would freely reject religion if they eally thought about it, but since most people don´t think (in their not-so-humble-opinion) Liberals need to use force untill clearer heads prevail (theirs, of course)
Pope Francis was at Assisi today. His comments included:
Evil is not invincible, and the Christian does not surrender in the face of evil. God is greater than evil. God is infinite love, mercy without limits, and this love vanquished evil at its roots in the death and resurrection of Christ.
I would say my dear Catholic friends should certainly expect bold statements of support and action coming from ALL the normally-PR savvy American Catholic hierarchy within 24 hours. (cardinal Dolan?).
Precious tiny Mother Theresa boldly lectured America and the Clintons about the great sin of murdering unborn babies while standing just a few feet from the Clintons. This is called Godly leadership. I pray today ´s leaders will not remain silent on this outrage.
This is pure insanity! Marxist Obama thinks he has authority he doesn´t have. The godless government has no authority over any Christian denomination or whether Mass can be held. It doesn´t cost the government anything for a Priest to hold a service.
This two-bit community-organizer needs to be set back a peg or two.
Military clergy have there own Archbishop and he, not Dolan, is the appropriate first responder to this outrage. There is no reason to read deference to a brother Bishop as some indication of tacit approval.

The oath is fealty to the Constitution, not any man, not even to the country. We all know this.
(Un)fortunately, since we haven´t had a real knock-down, drag-out war to weed out the uniformed, careerist bureaucrat-types in the military (and especially the leadership), the progressive mantra of "voting for [or acting in] your own best interests" (a battle-cry promoting corruption if there ever was one - see the current command-interference scandal of the Marine Corps Commandant) is the primary guiding light for almost every member in upper-level leadership roles. Notice how quickly these types take the offensive en mass against anyone, officer or enlisted, who might upset their kingdom-building and/or promotion opportunities by insisting on truth, fealty, and integrity. We are quickly becoming pre-WWII French - e.g., a bunch of legalistic bureaucrats who won´t make a decision or a move without a legalistic fig leaf to prove we cannot be held accountable if things go south.
Thus, my fear is that many in the military will simply follow orders, whether or not they mesh with legality or the Constitution. After all, the government has a great deal of leverage (there´s a good, wholesome mafia term for ya) against our all-volunteer forces - "he who controls the bread and butter controls your life."
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ? Edmund Burke
It looks like Obama proves this truth because he is getting dangerously close to triumph. Obama and his administration´s actions are an unprecedented assault on freedom and yet, there seems to be no urgency to stop this. Apparently, we have lost the ability to recognize tyranny much less fight it right here in our own country. Our Republican leaders should be passionately outraged about these acts against us. Obama will not let up. He is enjoying this and will continue to escalate them unless stopped. Tyrants never stop of their own accord.
This is very dangerous grounds upon which this Administration´s venal and vindictive POTUS treads. It is all too obvious to everyone that this POTUS is deliberately choosing to hurt people who need not be hurt. Money isn´t the point here; to ban the taking of Communion, under any circumstances, anywhere, by anyone, is not only an infringement of religious rights, it is an affront to God, and He doesn´t care about our government´s shutdown.
But He does care -- a lot -- about those who will place "stumbling blocks" in the paths of those who choose to worship Him.
Maybe people will finally get an education about how much reach the Federal Government actually has into people´s personal lives. This spectacle is all coutesy of Barak Hussein Obama and Valerie Jarrett.
Forget petty and childish, Obama is a tyrant. Freedom of religion is our right in this country. If he is forbidding Catholic priests, he will be forbidding Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterians and Lutherans next. Think about it.
This may be historic - not because of Barry´s decrees - but because Catholics and Protestants may unite to fight this most offensive, un-Constitutional order by any president in our nation´s history. Will the SCOTUS finally step in and stand up for the Constitution????
To repeat #46: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ? Edmund Burke
Many of us here are too old to be in the active military, but we are filled with much wisdom, because we have been lucky to live as long as we have. Many of us are well over 65; thus, the "power of the pen" may be just as effective. All of our Founding Fathers were not fighting with muskets, but they gave us the words that most of us have written on our hearts, and those words have led us into battles and inspired us to fight on despite the odds.
May God bless America - may we continue to follow the words written on our hearts.
This abominable president is at the root of all this chaos and power overreach. If Obama and his bunch were given control over everything and everybody in this country we would all be in lockstep, doing whatever he regulates and orders us to do. He set the tone and goals and they are aiding and abetting - big time - as are most in the media.
Those fortunate eastern europeans finally got rid (for the most part) of this kind of leader. Never in my wildest dreams or nightmares did I think we´d be experiencing this kind of control and abuse.
What an unbelievably treacherous time in America with Obama ruling - not leading. It´s difficult to believe the democrats (as a whole) are going along with his ideas and goals. It seems as if our federal government has gone absolutely mad - with a bunch of snarling, angry wolves taking control of and dominion over "we, the sheep."

I don´t understand why he´s doing this. It must be meant as an Alinskyite move to blame the Republicans for making people suffer. But surely even low-information types will catch on. Think of all the Catholics in the military -- won´t they know about this and tell people? But to make sure, the RNC or some more awake group should spend a lot of money on ads telling about Obama´s order to the park service to make life difficult, this order about the priests, and any other outrageous actions. They should make it clear that these things are Obama´s choice and not necessary during a shutdown.
Silence in the face of an unconstitutional order is acquiescence and complicity with that order.
And I´m not just talking about chaplains and the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. I´m also looking directly at the leadership of our military. How long are they going to sit on their hands as they are given one unconstitutional order after another?
You are not just defenders of this country, you are defenders of our constitution. Do your sworn duty!
I wonder if the priests are allowed to administer last rights. Folks, there´s a ruthless dictator at the helm of this ship who is enjoying every minute of hurting this country. It´s sick and it´s evil.
Sunday should be proclaimed "Military Religious Freedom Sunday", and every Catholic bishop should show up with his Mass kit at a military base demanding to say Mass...on the parade field off the tailgate of a Hummer, if necessary. This is not about Caesar...this is God´s due.
#20 is right, of course (thanks for the correction). I got a little ahead of myself there, because Miguel Pró is one of my favorite exemplars of self-sacrificial service under the threat of death (along with Maximillian Kolbe and Damien de Vuester -- both of whom are already canonized). And when we have film of him being martyred, waiting for the second confirmed miracle seems like almost a formality.
#61, I agree, it should (and I hope it will be)be Saint Miguel. Ann Ball wrote a wonderful biography on Blessed Miguel Pro a few years back. The movie "For Greater Glory" was about the Cristeros. Viva Cristo Rey! AMDG
#56: Tyrant .Obama is pushing to see where we finally say, "Enough!"
Barricades on the Mall was a push. Blocking park sites where they really had no authority [and certainly no rational need, or way, to "close" anything (e.g. Mt. Vernon)] was a push.
Shoving Obama´s Barrycades aside [oh I love that -- "Storm the Barrycades!"] and the guv who opened the state roads was a push back.
Wiring the Barrycades was a re-push.
Seriously -- there is no way whatsoever [like with the IRS´s selective "treatment" of conservative organizations] the White House can claim ignorance of s-o-o-o many affronts.
So the rational can conclude: a. they know, and want it this way; b. they are pushing, pushing, to see how much they can do to us; and c. they just might be hoping for a "confrontation" -- or a real confrontation. Not long Point c might have sounded crazy. Now, denying the possibility of Point c looks crazier by the hour.
So -- when will the first Honor Flight wheelchair veteran be handcuffed? And will the House Member at the Memorial do the right thing and intervene? Physically, if necessary? Well?
OK I´m going to say this again. Given the actions of Obozo and co. over the past 5yrs, there is no way that this country is going to return to the republic that it was intended to be as long as we, the people sit back and just put up with it. We all pray, hope, and wish for a peaceful correction of the course we are on, but it isn´t going to happen. We just keep going further down that same road. So, IMHO, the only cure is to start, and win, another revolution. DC has to be completely cleaned out, some changes be made to the Contitution to prevent that same thing from happening again, and look for any find some good men and women to GOVERN the country. Not rule it. Even at my age, (68) I would gladly joing in the fighting. Otherwise, there is no future for our childre and grandchildren.
It is an illegal and unconstitutional order (First Amendment Freedom of Religion) by the CIC and must be disobeyed. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.
All of these contract and GS employees will be back paid once the freeze is over, so why not still work? Vindictiveness, spite and hate for everything American is in place by a narcissistic, petulant being who thinks he is the almighty.
Where is Joe Biden, high Jesuit priest in the Curch Militant? Somehow, noisy Joe is silent. He is the top ranking Catholic in the federal government and he is staying quiet, laying low, to reserve his power and strength to legally legitimize 20 or 30 million Catholic illegals into the corrupt voting pool, when Rubio, McCain and Schumer try to pull off organizing the newest government union, all these new rules, laws and privileges they secretly pass for their new slave labor pool, the illegals. Ordering priests not to do mass is right out of the Communist playbook of tyranny. You don´t have to be Catholic to abhore government interference with religious services. Rmember all the years the government DID NOT interefere with child molestation in The Church? Our government is upside down in debt...going for collapse
Public reaction/inaction from Catholics in government should be interesting.
LEGISLATIVE - According to a 1/7/13 Catholic News article, there are 163 Catholics in the 113th Congress; 136 in the House (75 Democrats, 61 Republicans); 27 Catholics in the Senate (18 Democrats, 9 Republicans). Prominent Catholics in Congress are John Boehner and Marcy Kaptur (D-OH).
EXECUTIVE - Vice President Joe Biden is Catholic.
JUDICIAL - According to Internet research, there are six Catholics on the U. S. Supreme Court: Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy, John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Sonia Sotomayor, Clarence Thomas.
"In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn´t speak up because I wasn´t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn´t speak up because I wasn´t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn´t speak up because I wasn´t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn´t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."
We are close to reaching the limit. Obie is purposely creating this outrage and trying to focus it on the republicans but even his lapdogs are catching on, although they are too speechless with disbelief at what they have put into office. The pitchforks are sharpened and ready...
If this does not convince everyone who doubted Mr. O has been waging jihad against the Church -- those who called "paranoid" the people who have been pointing out examples of his hatred against Catholics.......
Stand firm, Fathers; do your duty by your flocks. And Catholic servicemembers, make sure every Mass is well attended!
Important to remember these numbers, thanks to # 72 - above, Harlowe, and connecting the dots that the Mexican border will never be closed down with all this Catholic power protecting 90% all Catholic illegals ... simple, they offer "sanctuary" straight from world wide offers and strict orders from Rome. The claim of interfering with any Catholic mass is masterful cover up and deception for the power of the Church Militant. Beautifully organised, fraudulent deception of the peasants ..... us ! believing there will arrests of even one priest. Propaganda is thick at every government turn, leading us into depths of fear, questions with no answers, harm to the innocent, constant, non stop agitation, right out of the Communist Marx Leninist, Stalinist Soviet dictatorship rules of tyranny. Time to read the early signs of communism, of dictatorship, attacking religions. The numbers again: 163 Catholics in the 113th Congress; 136 in the House (75 dems, 61 pubs); 27 Catholics in the Senate (18 dems, 9 pubs). Big time Catholics in Congress, John Boehner and Marcy Kaptur (D-OH). V P Joe Biden is Catholic. Supreme Court,6 Catholics: Alito, Kennedy, Roberts, Scalia, Sotomayor & Thomas. Thanks, Harlowe.
When Mohammad Hamedi Rad arrived in the United States last year, he carried his Iranian passport, a hard-won student visa and a backpack containing $14,000 in hundred dollar bills, because there was no simpler way of getting money into the country. "It was scary," Hamedi Rad, a chemical engineering graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, said of his late-night arrival in Chicago, where he declared the funds to airport customs officials. "I´ve never carried that much money before. I was extremely nervous." Hamedi Rad´s experience is by no means unheard of among many of the thousands of
This spectacle had to have the white-hot spotlight, front page, bold type (whoa-oh!) — to quote one of the evening’s celebrated songwriters — because this Kennedy Center Honors gala was a talker. The night might have begun as the latest parade of cultural icons seated in an opera box with their president, but when a rapper and a Supreme Court justice take the same stage, it isn’t your standard lifetime achievement fete. (Snip) The show — hosted by actress Glenn Close — began with a resounding rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” played by Cuban jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. Should anyone
The "Piano Man" who became one of the world´s best-selling artists of all time with such hits as "Just the Way You Are," "Uptown Girl" and "Allentown" is being awarded the nation´s highest honor Sunday for influencing American culture through the arts. Billy Joel joins Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, opera star Martina Arroyo and actress Shirley MacLaine in receiving the Kennedy Center Honors. All of them have been playing music, dancing or singing since they were children -- and have never stopped. Joel said the honor stands apart from his six Grammys. "This is different. It´s our nation´s capital," he
Couples should not have children if their relationship is not stable enough to merit getting married, a senior High Court judge said yesterday. Sir Paul Coleridge said those couples whose relationship was stable enough to cope with the rigours of child rearing should marry. But the judge, who is retiring from the bench next year after decades as a family lawyer and judge, said those who did not feel ready for children should not have them. He said couples had no right to have children, “you only have responsibilities if you have them”. Sir Paul criticised warring parents’ obsessions with
Thursday’s sad passing of world civil rights icon Nelson Mandela was a frequent topic of discussion at Friday’s White House daily briefing, as several reporters asked Press Secretary Jay Carney to elaborate on Mandela’s influence, and on details surrounding his funeral. CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta asked about “this great impact” that Mandela had on the President, while repeatedly stressing that President Obama had only met Mandela once. Acosta began with a personal observation, telling Carney that “it just sort of struck me that the President talked about this great impact that he had on his life, but
As an unrelenting wintry storm threatens to choke the Mid-Atlantic into Sunday evening, intrepid NFL players duked it out in Philadelphia amid white-out conditions. The potent system battered the South and Midwest in recent days and now, as it creeps East, it has the Eagles and visiting Detroit Lions both battling major snow. While the blizzard has professional athletes struggling to stay ahead of the weather, a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow is delivering a sloppy smorgasbord from the Mid-Atlantic through southeastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.
The two drugs have been declared equivalently miraculous. Tested side by side in six major trials, both prevent blindness in a common old-age affliction. Biologically, they are cousins. They’re even made by the same company. But one holds a clear price advantage. Avastin costs about $50 per injection. Lucentis costs about $2,000 per injection. Doctors choose the more expensive drug more than half a million times every year, a choice that costs the Medicare program, the largest single customer, an extra $1 billion or more annually. Spending that much may make little sense for a country burdened by ever- rising health
LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.— An Olympic gold medal won by Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Games has sold for a record $1.4 million in an online auction. SCP Auctions said Pittsburgh Penguins co-owner Ron Burkle paid $1,466,574, the highest price for a piece of Olympic memorabilia. The online auction ended Sunday. "We just hope that it´s purchased by an institution where the public could have access to it, a museum or something like that," Owens´ daughter, Marlene Owens Rankin of Chicago, told The Associated Press before the sale. The auction house said Burkle, who also owns William Faulkner´s Nobel Prize
The State Department on Friday defended its decision to commission a $1 million sculpture for the American embassy in London just days before the partial government shutdown in October. The department awarded the contract for the granite sculpture to Sean Scully, an Irish-born American artist, as part of its Art in Embassies program, which curates exhibitions for American embassy and consulate facilities. "Like much of the art purchased by this program, this piece was purchased under the market price after considerable negotiation with both the artist and the gallery. This is an important part of our diplomatic presence overseas," spokeswoman
Anti-government protesters in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev have toppled a statue of Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin. Instagram user Arthur_potachik : (Video) NPR´s Corey Flintoff, who is in Kiev, told our Newscast unit earlier today that opposition groups in the country are calling for a million people to rally against government plans to forge stronger ties with Russia. "Thousands of protestors have been camping out here in Kiev´s central square, but organizers are calling on people from around the country to join them," Corey said. "The protest started as a response to President Viktor Yanukovych´s decision to reject a trade
(Video) With the passing of Nelson Mandela, the world has lost one of its greatest leaders. When Time magazine compiled its list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century in the late 1990s, Mandela was one of just 20 in the category of most influential leaders and revolutionaries, along with our own civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Among others on the list: Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, British Prime Ministers Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II, and Israel´s first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. And, in a nod to evil´s influence,
Media Buzz host Howard Kurtz brought all of his sports metaphors to a segment about Hardball host Chris Matthews’ recent interview with President Barack Obama, arguing that the sympathetic interview may have played to the MSNBC base but did little to advance Obama’s point of view. “I expected Chris Matthews to deliver a sympathetic friendly interview with President Obama,” Kurtz said. “But I wouldn’t even say he was pitching softballs—I’d describe it as whiffle ball…This is a guy who loves to interrupt his guests, right? He let the president go on and on.” “I would have thought, just to cover
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
DAVID CORN: I saw a president who remains frustrated with the political-media culture that he has to work within, and that he´s looking to rally people, students here, and supporters, and people within the media. CHRIS MATTHEWS: But David Corn, you skeptic. He came to us today. He came amongst us. CORN: He´s trying to rally people behind this vision that he´s been promoting for a couple years. FINEMAN: By the way, he did it the end here, today, Chris, not by defending specifics, but by explaining why he´s in the game to begin with. And I don´t know about you, he´s
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
One definition of a pathological liar is someone who lies where the truth would serve just as well. When President Obama’s uncle, Onyango Obama, was arrested in 2011 for drunk driving, the truth — that Obama had stayed with his uncle years earlier for several weeks as a Harvard law student — would have served the president just fine. No potential Obama voter would have held it against him that an uncle he had stayed with two decades earlier was picked up for DUI. Yet the White House went with a lie, claiming that Obama had never met his uncle. Now that
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
Although the jobless rate in November fell to its lowest level since he took office, President Obama called on Republican lawmakers Saturday to spend tens of billions on unemployment benefits that are set to expire this month. “It shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address. But he said the “economic lifeline” is in jeopardy. “All because Republicans in this Congress — which is on track to be the most unproductive in history — have so far refused to extend it” Mr. Obama said. If Congress doesn’t act before lawmakers leave on their holiday break, about
Many people could die as extreme weather becomes common. There will be more freak winds like the October storm, which killed four people. Heatwaves will be lethal and the sea level will rise, leaving coastal towns at risk of being swamped by storm surges. Sir Brian Heap, president of the European Academies Science Advisory Council, said he felt “obliged” to issue the warning after a new study by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It comes on the back of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which has killed more than 5,000 people. Sir Brian said: “Given the tragic events this
