A Connecticut woman who was shot to death by police after a car chase that began when she tried to breach a barrier at the White House suffered from post-partum depression, her mother said. (Snip) Carey´s mother, Idella Carey, told ABC News on Thursday night that her daughter began suffering from post-partum depression after giving birth to her daughter, Erica, last August. "A few months later, she got sick," she said. "She was depressed. ... She was hospitalized." Idella Carey said her daughter had "no history of violence" and she didn´t know why she was in Washington on Thursday. She said she
Comments: Another article mentions that her tires were recently slashed.
She did not deserve to be shot. There were other ways to stop her car. The officers "panicked".
Just another example of the government gestapo rough housing and shooting up a defenseless woman. Her only crime was to turn in to the wrong driveway, then became scared when the swat guards came after her. Panicked by the armed guards, and scared for the safety of her young daughter she fled. Then only to be hunted and run down by rogue brown shirted security agents. Unarmed, and tracked like an animal by out of control blood thirsty hunters, she fled as best she could. Alas, the only shots that were fired were by the burly, over the top, agents. No firearm to protect herself and young child, she died. Will there be no justice for her?
This poor woman probably had no father herself......oh and her child is just another one of the Govt´s children born since 2009. They are hitting Kindergarten this year and now we will reap a new generation of sad needy fatherless children. So very sad.
Looking at it from my point of view, I see a massive, outlandish response to a common (happens in every city now and then) situation . It must have been quite interesting to the Muslim terrorists in waiting to watch our whole nation´s capitol practically paralyzed with fear and confusion over a nut screeching around corners in her sedan. She didn´t even need an explosive vest or an AK-47! I noticed on the videos of the event hundreds of military in full combat gear deployed over this incident. People running in all directions, cops totally confused.
The 9/11 attack did much more damage to our nation that just knocking down a few buildings.

The woman rammed a fence at the WH, struck a Secret Service Agent as she fled the scene, then sped towards the Capitol, where police were able to stop her breifly before she put the car in reverse and attempted to flee again. At that point, the officers opened fire, killing her.
This, on the face of it sounds like a justifibly deadly force incident. Just because the woman did not have a gun, doesn´t make here an innocent victim. A vehicle is considered a weapon in the law enforcement world when used to ram objects and officers.
Lets take this incident out of DC and put it on the streets of Chicago. Lets change the mentally ill woman driver for a dirtbag with a warrant. Nothing changes, the vehicle was still used as a weapon, the police stopped the threat. The only thing that changes, would be the commenters here would be cheering and clapping that a Chicago dirtbag met his end.
The police in theis incident did not know if the driver was a terrorist, if the vehicle was loaded with explosives, or what her intent was. They reacted in accordance with their training (as far as we know, but initial reports indicate they did). The DC area is one big target for terrorists, these officers are trained extensively on this type of scenario (VBIED threat).
If this had been an actual terrorist incident, would you still be giving these officers crap? And please, save the "they shoulda shot out the tires" nonsense for TV.
Suicide by cop - happens every day, but we don´t hear about it so much because it doesn´t occur at the White House during a government shutdown.
Suicide by cop means that a mentally ill person is suicidal, but is too scared to take the actions necessary to kill himself/herself. So the person acts out in such a way that triggers a police response. The person rationalizes that this is better because survivors won´t realize that it was a suicide attempt and instead will grieve the accident ´victim´.
Haven´t seen all the videos, #8, but don´t recall seeing any military deployed...it is also wrong to claim the security level is due solely to 9/11...remember the ´95 Okla. City bombings? Remember Tom Delay´s lead body guard and a fellow Capitol Hill policeman being murdered in the Capitol in´98?
I´m actually stunned at the number of people who are giving this woman a pass.
Mentally ill or not, you simply can not do what she did yesterday and expect to survive. Perhaps she didn´t expect to survive. Perhaps that was the plan.
Any number of entities/individuals knew that the Navy Yard shooter had been hearing voices and needed to be under lock and key, but no one took action.
Hundreds knew for years that Nidal Haasan was a Jihadist before he opened fire at Ft. hood.
Let´s see what this woman´s family and friends knew about the severity or extent of her mental illness. Was she under a doctor´s care? Was she on medication? If so, was she taking her meds as directed? If not, who should have been monitoring her intake --or lack of same.
Whatever the outcome of the investigation into the woman´s motives or illness, the actions of the police and Secret Service should not be condemned.
Lots of people are referencing Congress and the President as being protected by the Secret Service, et al, as if their lives are not worth saving --or should not be saved. Yeah, I´ve actually seen that here in posts.
Fine. Fair enough. I can think of a couple of handfuls of Electeds who would not elicit my tears if they left this earth by whatever means.
But what about the visitors, out of towners, staffers, etc., who were on the sidewalks yesterday? Suppose the authorities decided they could not risk shooting out the tires --which is Hollywood B movie BS, and the woman had aimed the Lexus at the sidewalks and killed a dozen people at 80 MPH.
The tone would be very different. The cops would be taking a hit for not stopping her.
I cannot help but have sympathy for the lady and of course, a sweet baby girl now motherless. However, the road rage or whatever it was, was a huge mistake on her part and she paid the price. The Feds had overnight to DECIDE what the story line would be and a compliant media obeyed. There are lots of lies being told to fit the narrative they wish and we know that.
ok, tin foil hat time - - my ´theory´ is the baby is O´s and she was fed up being ignored by the baby´s father (The won) - - hence the need to shoot her, even though she was unarmed, did not exit the vehicle, although most likely was more intelligent than 99% of the police-types running around after her and shooting off their guns...
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of folks who think police officers can just "shoot out the tires" of a vehicle to stop it, or "shoot the gun out of" the bad guys hand, or shoot em in the leg. Its pure hollywood fantasy, and no department trains their officers to do it. It doesn´t work.
Shooting out the tire will do nothing but waste ammo, or worse, send a bullet skidding on down the street, possibly killing a bystander. But of course, some here would then critize the cop for not shooting the driver instead.
Until you´ve been put in a life or death, shoot or don´t shoot scenario with a unknown suspect, running into things (and an officer) with a vehicle, save the monday morning quarterbacking for football.
LUNENBURG, Mass. —Investigators say the mother of a Lunenburg teen whose home had racist graffiti sprayed on it last month is a "strong suspect" in the case. According to the search warrant, Isaac Phillip´s mother, Andrea Brazier, replied "OK" when an FBI agent said she was the one who spray painted graffiti on the house. Watch Report "Most of the leads we have followed up throughout the investigation have led back towards the house," said Lunenburg police Lt. Michael Luth. When asked if police considered Brazier a strong suspect, Luth responded, "I would." Court documents also claim Brazier made false statements and then asked
The fight for Christmas took a hit this week when politics bigfooted a troupe of adorable little ballet dancers performing “The Nutcracker.” MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is scheduled to interview President Obama on Thursday night at American University as part of the “Hardball College Tour.” MSNBC approached AU to host the chat, and officials jumped at the chance for a free, hour-long commercial for the university and its students. But the interview, announced Tuesday morning, abruptly kicked the Ballet Petite’s rehearsals of”The Nutcracker” out of AU’s Greenberg Theatre. That didn’t sit well with the ballet school’s staff, teachers and parents who
Well, it’s not like there’s any danger of this stuff crossing the porous border into the US… Tepojaco (Mexico) (AFP) – Mexican authorities scrambled Wednesday to find a truck containing “extremely dangerous” radioactive material used in medical treatment that was stolen by two gunmen two days ago, officials said. The white Volkswagen Worker truck was transporting a teletherapy device containing cobalt-60 when it was stolen Monday in the central Hidalgo state town of Tepojaco, near Mexico City, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. (Snip)So they found the container, just not the incredibly dangerous material that was in it. The
A fourth student at the University of California Santa Barbara has come down with a strain of meningitis similar to the one that sickened eight Princeton University students in New Jersey, authorities said. The California students began getting sick about three weeks ago, according to a university statement. One student had to have both legs amputated, ABC News has learned. "He´s from my hometown. I hope he is doing well," said David Burkow, another student. "It´s just kind of scary because there is a constant fear." The California school has suspended social events, including sorority and fraternity parties, to avoid
With a ruling by a federal judge on Tuesday that Detroit is eligible to enter bankruptcy, the fate of the city’s art collection — one of the finest in the country — now moves front and center in the legal battle over the city’s future. But the judge, Steven W. Rhodes, questioned for the first time the push by some of the city’s largest creditors to sell paintings and sculpture from the Detroit Institute of Arts, a sale that could generate hundreds of millions of dollars or more. While he did not say specifically that the art should be spared,
WASHINGTON – The National Transportation Safety Board has removed the Association of Commuter Rail Employees as a participant in its investigation into the December 1 fatal derailment of the Metro-North passenger train in the Bronx that killed four people. Organizations designated as parties to investigations sign an agreement to abide by NTSB rules during an investigation, but on Tuesday, the chairman of the union, Anthony Bottalico, spoke to the media and discussed what he thought happened during the derailment and engineer William Rockefeller. “While we value the technical expertise that groups like ACRE can provide during the course of an investigation, it
A truck carrying potentially "extremely dangerous" radioactive material has been stolen in Mexico, the UN atomic watchdog said Wednesday. The International Atomic Energy Agency said the truck was carrying cobalt-60, used for radiotherapy treatment to combat cancer. An IAEA statement Wednesday said the truck was stolen Monday while taking the material to a radioactive waste storage center from the northern city of Tijuana. The IAEA said the heist occurred in Tepojaco, a town near Mexico City, and describes the load as `´extremely dangerous" if damaged or removed from its protective shielding. It said Mexican authorities are searching for the material. The statement provided
BEIRUT: Hassan Lakkis, the Hezbollah commander who was assassinated outside his Beirut home late Tuesday, had played a key role in advancing the group’s technological capabilities in its fight against Israel and had brushes with death on many occasions, sources told The Daily Star Wednesday. “Lakkis was involved in scientific development and played a key role in developing Hezbollah’s unmanned aerial vehicles program,” a source close to the Lebanese group told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity A security source, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said Lakkis was also in charge of smuggling arms to Gaza and Egypt.
Four months into his tenure at CNN, Jeff Zucker woke up in his New York City apartment and realized that he couldn’t move his face. “You wake up and you look in the mirror and your face can´t move and you think you had a stroke, and then you go to the emergency room and they diagnose it,” Zucker told Capital during a wide-ranging interview. Zucker was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy in June, a form of facial paralysis that renders affected people unable to control facial muscles on one side of their face. “It´s definitely better than it was, but
Young Americans are turning against Barack Obama and Obamacare, according to a new survey of millennials, people between the ages of 18 and 29 who are vital to the fortunes of the president and his signature health care law. The most startling finding of Harvard University´s Institute of Politics: A majority of Americans under age 25--the youngest millennials--would favor throwing Obama out of office. The survey, part of a unique 13-year study of the attitudes of young adults, finds that America´s rising generation is worried about its future, disillusioned with the U.S. political system, strongly opposed to the government´s domestic surveillance apparatus,
Lebanon´s militant Shi´ite group Hezbollah said on Wednesday one of its commanders was killed outside his Beirut home overnight in an attack it blamed on Israel. The group said in a statement that Hassan al-Laqqis, "who served the resistance his entire life," was killed at around midnight in the southern Hadath district of the Lebanese capital. A previously unknown group, Ahrar al-Sunna Baalbek brigade, claimed responsibility for the attack in a message on Twitter. The group´s name suggested it had Lebanese Sunni Muslim links. Al-Laqqis was on his way home when he was killed, the official Hezbollah television station Al-Manar said. It
The New Jersey waitress whose story has been questioned after she claimed she received an anti-gay note instead of a tip on a restaurant bill was discharged under dishonorable terms from the Marines last spring after she stopped showing up, NBC 4 New York has learned. (Snip)NBC 4 New York learned Wednesday from a Pentagon source that Morales was dismissed from the Marine Reserve Corps in May because she wasn´t attending drills. It wasn´t immediately clear how often those drills were held, and Morales did not respond to a request for comment. Morales was formally discharged, or released from the Marines,
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
On Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported that Onyango “Omar” Obama, uncle to President Obama, says that his famous nephew stayed with him while a student at Harvard Law School in the 80s, in contradiction to The White House’s contention that the two had never met. At Thursday’s White House daily briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed that the President had, in fact, briefly stayed with “his father’s half-brother,” as Carney described Omar Obama, and that no one had actually asked the President about it when the White House initially commented. The 69 year-old Omar Obama has been facing deportation back
In February, the Bush family’s personal emails were hacked by Guccifer, a hacker who uncovered photographs of former President George H. W. Bush in a hospital bed and George W. Bush’s oil paintings in the process. It seems Guccifer has struck again, this time targeting former President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Library. The hacker has reportedly uncovered doodles of Clinton drawing on what were, at the time, classified documents. Among the doodles is apparently a picture of a penis. The document uncovered is a briefing of the strategic measures the United States could take prior Clinton’s decision to intervene in
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The world premiere of the “Ballad for Trayvon Martin for Orchestra and Jazz Quartet” is set for tonight. Princeton University’s director of its jazz-studies program composed the work in honor of the Florida teen. Anthony D. J. Branker told the Star-Ledger that the piece is intended to “be a form of healing” after Martin’s death and the controversial court case that followed it. The ballad, which will be performed by the university’s official orchestra and jazz ensemble, is intended to be a tribute to victims of racial violence, Branker explained. He hopes that the performance will be “one that speaks to
WASHINGTON – A fourth straight month of solid hiring cut the U.S. unemployment rate to a five-year low of 7 percent in November, an encouraging sign for the economy. The Labor Department says employers added 203,000 jobs, nearly matching October´s revised gain of 200,000. The job gains helped lower the unemployment rate from 7.3 percent in October. The strengthening job market is likely to fuel speculation that the Federal Reserve may start to scale back its bond purchases when it meets later this month. The economy has now generated an average of 204,000 jobs from August through November. That´s up
