The bizarre attack at the White House and Capitol today was reportedly perpetrated by a 34-year-old dental hygienist licensed in Connecticut. Miriam Carey, who was killed by law enforcement after ramming White House barricades and fleeing to the Capitol, had a toddler in the car with her, according to New York Post reporting: Sources said Miriam Carey, who formerly lived in Brooklyn, was licensed to practice in New York and Connecticut and had a permit to work as a hygienist in Connecticut prisons. At least a dozen gunshots were fired when she tried to flee cops, who had trapped her two blocks

I don´t understand why there isn´t a big fuss about the police behavior. The woman wasn´t shooting; she didn´t have a gun. They needed to stop her car, not kill her. Why didn´t they shoot her tires? They were very close to her; it wouldn´t have been that hard.
There is something very troubling about the police response. It just doesn´t seem right. There was a good two or three seconds when they had her car surrounded before she took off the first time. The police couldn´t have been more than two or three feet from the car. Why not shoot the tires out? It would have slowed her down. Of course, I am not familiar with police procedures. Maybe they feared the car was packed with explosives. Something just seems fishy about this whole situation.
Hear, hear posters. Why in the world would they shoot at her? She was probably having a psychotic episode. Think they were trying to shoot out her tires and missed by about a mile? Good grief! Of course, you probably couldn´t get fired from the Capitol Hill or D.C. police if you were blind and deaf. Or maybe it was the Not-so-Great Caesar´s Praetorian Guard.....
Reminds me of Ruby Ridge, Waco, Ellia and on and on. They killed this woman, who was apparently unarmed -with a CHILD in the car - but they were told to "stand down" at the Navy Yard???? What is going on with the cops in D.C.???
I smell a LOT of tort lawyers coming.
I bet Obama is hiding under his bed. And may he live that way the rest of his life.
And yes, we need to do something about the mentally ill.
This is a very strong argument for car control. We must pass laws now for better car control, especially with these Lexus and Infiniti assault cars. Importing these kinds of assault cars needs to stop now!
Don´t tell me they didn´t see that baby girl in the back seat when they converged on her car, yet they still shoot at her vehicle like it´s some Hollywood movie. You know they were all sh´ing bricks back at the station afterward; anyone could have been killed on that street, including one of their own!
The problem starts with the failure of the Secret Service police to properly operate the security perimeter barricade systems.
Everything that follows that THEY say about it is a police coverup.
Her body was still warm when we had ABC telling us she had a history of mental illness. So how did they know her name? Did the cops do a car tag check on the vehicle while she was cruising up Pennsylvania avene?
Subsequent reports are that she was not known to have had any mental treatment or examination for mental illness. So, what was ABC talking about? Why did the cops say she was crazy? Is this Gnarls Barkley´s girl?
I think not.
And shooting at the baby? They knew there was a baby girl in the car ~ or at least a child carrier ~ so they waited until she got out of the car to shoot her 15 times? Obviously some problems in that story line. The cops were shooting at her and each other all along the line of travel ~ because of that I doubt we´ll ever know the truth ´cause there are some guys who will lie because there are other cops involved.

Arm chair police out in force today. Asking why police didn´t just "shoot out the tire" is like asking why police don´t just shoot an armed suspect "in the leg". Its a dynamic situation, where split second decisions have to be made.
In todays world, where bad guys/terroists frequently use vehicles to ram and then detonate their target, it is not unimaginable to believe that these officers thought that what was going down. Police country wide train for that exact scenario.
What if this WAS a terrorists incident and the vehicle exploded, killing dozens? Would you folks be here commenting on why the police didn´t shoot the vehicle up full of holes??
I´m not gonna castigate these guys until more details emerge.
I agree that there is something very wrong with this. And all the shootings that have gone on, perpetrated by people with mental illness. Who is whispering in these peoples´ ears to go do what they do? Call me any kind of conspiracy nutjob you want. Something is very wrong in our nation and these situations.
Yes #8, a rogue Obama mama, had to be taken out. And that´s why you aren´t hearing what she said at the barrier. The fact you aren´t hearing anything about her political leanings from the daily worker styled media speaks volumes about her political leanings.
If you´ve ever driven around DC you know that it can be confusing even for people who live and work around there. It would not surprise me if she got confused and pulled in somewhere she shouldn´t have, or was trying to get directions, then suddenly found herself surrounded by aggressive police and just freaked out. The multitude of police in DC then did what they do best and overreacted to a situation that should not have ended with shots being fired. I think there´s a lot more to this than meets the eye and all entities involved are in full threaten/coverup mode.
´´Police country wide train for that exact scenario.´´ And woe unto any of us who happen to trigger their automatic response. Beware of any people who have given up their own reasoning ability in order to serve their masters. Do I want the protection of police or military people who fit that description? No, thank you. The death of innocents at their hands isn´t worth it. And how many of those shooters who killed that woman yesterday will be haunted by that act for the rest of their lives? And the lives of their loved ones will suffer. So many will hurt for so long from the fear that caused them to respond blindly.
Not enough details to form a real opinion, and I am sure that there won´t be much after this. However, Mother, Child, nice car, car chase, car and police car mangled, Mother dead. Child miraculously lives. There are dots to be connected and so far they can´t be.
Re#18:"Arm chair police out in force today." So, I take that to mean that if one is not a police officer, then having an opinion of the actions of the police officers who ostensibly work for us is not allowed. Once we have hired these people, armed them with FULLY automatic weapons (not the semi-autos that we humble subjects of the crown are allowed) , given them armored vehicles and dressed them up in their black ninja outfits; we are to give them carte blanche to do whatever moves them at the moment, and, since we are not members of the Brotherhood of the Badge, we are forbidden to even comment on their actions? Did I get that straight? Only cops can criticise cops? Really?
Yes, I know: "They are out on the dangerous streets every day". Well, we peasants are out on the same dangerous streets every day, too. Except WE are usually unarmed, unarmored and without backup. What we are told to do is call 911 and wait for the ninjas to break away from knocking down the door of the wrong house and hosing the occupants long enough to come and draw a chalk outline around us.
So now every incident that occurs is automatically deemed mental illness? Really? Or is that just a cloak? Only Obama would be so afraid of a woman and it shows how trigger happy DC police are protecting the poseur. I´ve always believed deadly force is justified only if the perp did harm or was about to harm someone. Can´t definitely say that was the case here, yet. Cops lie sometimes about someone being threatened with car violence to justify their shooting actions. Check some of the executions on youtube sometime during traffic stops.
These weird things that keep happening echo what #20 says: Every time Obama´s back is up against the wall, he has reason to be very angry or someone has made him the no-clothes emperor once again these things are happening. Do they have these psychos in line, ready to go, to unleash on the public as Obama vents and delivers a vendetta? Their deeds ending it death make it the perfect crime every time: Dead men/women tell no tales.
No time to read the whole thread, but they reported on Fox a while ago that she was being treated for schizophrenia since the head injury she suffered a while back. Her boss said she had a "significant head injury" when she fell on some stairs, and had to be hospitalized. While in hospital she found out she was pregnant. Baby was born in August 2012, so do math.
Were the DC Cops in this incident "Trigger-Happy Goons" or "heroes" protecting Der Fuehrer Obama? Answer: Trigger Happy Goons. The DC cops executed that woman for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and acting erratically. It is a miracle that baby in the car was not hurt. Nothing professional about shooting wildly into a car with a baby in the back seat. We´ll never know who gave the order to "Stand Down" in Benghazi, or who ordered the trigger-happy cops to "Shoot To Kill" the unarmed woman in the car. Sad but that´s the regime we are living under. Remember, The New Black Panthers were telling us "Now you will know what it is like to be ruled by a Black Man". Yes we know, now, and it ain´t pretty being ruled by a half-black idiot.
They shot her because she was using her cars a weapon.
That they failed to effectively box her car in at the circle in front of the Capitol is inexplicable and unforgiveable. If they had a freaking clue and had boxed her car in with their cars, the ensuing chase would not have happened. The Republicans will be blamed for the absence of anyone among the Capitol Police who could tell their butt from a hole in the ground.
Story in the New York Post states that the lady had a good job, making $100,000 a year as a dental hygienist, until her head injury and subsequent dismissal due to being too rough with patients. Her sister is a retired NYPD sergeant, and neighbors say she was a smart, good person.
Did they have to shoot her? I don´t know, but she did have a baby with her, you would think they would have tried to stop her some other way.
I heard one analyst explain that only in the movies do cops shoot out tires or try for a leg shot. He said real cops shoot to kill and blast the car in that effort. What would have happened if that car was packed with explosives? Could a bullet have blown cars, cops, and the Capitol to kingdom come? I really would not want to be in the same county as one of these shoot outs.
Joshua Strange will never forget the girl he met in May 2011. Both were underclassmen at Alabama´s Auburn University when a common acquaintance introduced them. "We instantly became attached at the hip and did everything together," she recalled six months later. "I rather quickly moved into his place. . . . Everything was great until pretty much June 29." That night, an intimate encounter in Mr. Strange´s bed went wrong. She called police, who detained him for questioning. She said she had awakened to find him forcing himself on her; he said the sexual activity was consensual and initiated by
Sen. Ted Cruz isn’t on the ballot next year, but as candidates meet Monday’s filing deadline for Republican primaries, he appears ever-present. Cruz’s tea party-fueled, come-from-behind trouncing of David Dewhurst in the Senate race last year has provided him a gravitational pull that is moving GOP candidates further right and producing scores of would-be first-time officeholders. “You’ve got two things happening,” said Republican political consultant Bill Miller. One of them is the “Cruz phenomenon, and he is the phenom at this moment,” he said. “The other is that conservatives believe that if they’re going to succeed — with the Democratic administration in Washington
Six months after the Internal Revenue Service´s inspector general revealed that the tax-collection agency had been targeting conservative organizations for added scrutiny and delaying their applications for tax-exempt status, the IRS has proposed new rules for handling political activity by nonprofits. The proposed rules would plunge the agency deeper into political regulation. The rules would upset more than 50 years of settled law and practice by limiting the ability of certain tax-exempt nonprofits, organized under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, to conduct nonpartisan voter registration and voter education. Such organizations would be forbidden to leave records of officeholder votes
Fact: The IRS targeted conservative and tea party groups requesting tax-exempt status in the run-up to the 2012 presidential election. That’s a fact. Congress held hearings — embarrassing hearings. Three top Internal Revenue Service officials resigned. No heads rolled, but for the Obama administration, and the lawless Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., that amounted to a major scandal. Even White House spokesman Jay “Circus” Carney called the IRS’ actions “inappropriate.” Fact. But President Obama, in an interview last week with sycophant Chris Matthews, now says the entire scandal was made up by the media. “When we do things right, they don’t get
Bob Dole once made a droll crack to the New York Times about Newt Gingrich, then the speaker of the House. “Gingrich’s staff has these five file cabinets, four big ones and this little tiny one,” Dole said. “Number one is ‘Newt’s ideas.’ Number two, ‘Newt’s ideas.’ Number three, number four, ‘Newt’s ideas.’ The little one is ‘Newt’s Good Ideas.’” Here’s one from Gingrich’s little file: he has been pushing back against some of the more thoughtless conservative reactions to the death of Nelson Mandela. The backlash has ranged from the merely tone-deaf—think of Rick Santorum drawing comparisons between Obamacare and
More than any other subject, apolitical sorts will ask me about Fox News. “Is it really crazy?” my British friends inquire, flashing the sort of smile that a botanist might exhibit while examining a newly discovered species of moss. “Is it, like, really right wing?” The question has always slightly irritated me, showing as it does that the considerable success that the Left has had in demonizing its opposition extends even across the Atlantic. Certainly, both Fox’s commentary and its ostensibly straight reporting are marked by the right-leaning proclivities of its owners. But the notion that the network is unique in
The good news, if you want to call it that, is that roughly 1.6 million Americans have enrolled in ObamaCare so far. The not-so-good news is that 1.46 million of them actually signed up for Medicaid. If that trend continues, it could bankrupt both federal and state governments. Medicaid is already America’s third-largest government program, trailing only Social Security and Medicare, as a proportion of the federal budget. Almost 8 cents out of every dollar that the federal government spends goes to Medicaid. That’s more than $265 billion per year. Indeed, already Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid account for 48% of federal spending.
On Wednesday afternoon, a bunch of twentysomethings were summoned to the White House to hear an infomercial from Barack Obama himself. He was pitching health insurance. “The product is good. It’s affordable,” the President told them. “… We’re going to keep working through any glitches, problems that may come up.” He urged them to spread the word. “So if you’re a student body president, set up a conference on campus … If you’re a bartender, have a happy hour … Post something on your Facebook or Instagram.”Mr. Obama desperately needs healthy young people to sign on to Obamacare in order
Hillary Clinton may be the overwhelming front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, but she’s going to have to deal with some knotty problems sooner or later. She can’t ignore forever either her party or the media’s entreaties to talk on important subjects. The first problem surely is health care. President Obama won’t allow it to be repealed, so the Affordable Care Act will be hanging there, damaged and disliked for Clinton to address. Will she throw it and her former boss overboard, call for a single-payer plan as a sop to the left and risk scaring off the
What will history make so far of our five-year voyage with Barack Obama? What will it make of hope and change — other than a sort of hysteria of 2008 that was a political version of the Pet Rock or the Cabbage Patch Doll derangement? Did we really experience faux-Greek columns and Latin mottoes (vero possumus) as Obama props to usher in the new order of the ages? What exactly made David Brooks focus on trouser creases, or Chris Matthews on involuntary leg tickles? How could any serious person believe a candidate who promised to change the very terrain of the
House Republicans say they’re proud of their 2013 campaign to stymie President Obama’s regulatory agenda, even as Congress comes under fire for one of its least productive years. The bitterly divided Congress will pass fewer laws in 2013 than any year in modern history. As a result of the gridlock, President Obama has turned to his administration’s regulatory authority in pursuit of key policy goals, including efforts to tackle gun violence and climate change. While House Republicans have pinned the blame for Congress’ anemic legislative output on Senate Democrats, they make no bones about their efforts to blunt Obama’s rulemaking power. “We’re left
The Grinch — and anyone else trying to dampen the holiday spirit — should stay away from Texas this year. A group of Texans is coming out in full force to protect Christmas, Hanukkah and other holiday celebrations and to make sure students, teachers and parents have the right to observe their holidays at school. “It’s time to end the war on Christmas and stop forcing our schools to bow at the altar of political correctness,” said Jonathan Saenz, president of Texas Values, which is spearheading a Merry Christmas Texas effort. After legal battles that prevented a student a decade ago from handing
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
Although the jobless rate in November fell to its lowest level since he took office, President Obama called on Republican lawmakers Saturday to spend tens of billions on unemployment benefits that are set to expire this month. “It shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mr. Obama said in his weekly address. But he said the “economic lifeline” is in jeopardy. “All because Republicans in this Congress — which is on track to be the most unproductive in history — have so far refused to extend it” Mr. Obama said. If Congress doesn’t act before lawmakers leave on their holiday break, about
Many people could die as extreme weather becomes common. There will be more freak winds like the October storm, which killed four people. Heatwaves will be lethal and the sea level will rise, leaving coastal towns at risk of being swamped by storm surges. Sir Brian Heap, president of the European Academies Science Advisory Council, said he felt “obliged” to issue the warning after a new study by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It comes on the back of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which has killed more than 5,000 people. Sir Brian said: “Given the tragic events this
Call me Grinch, call me Scrooge. Call me Lord Voldemort of the Yuletide. None could be worse than sending me a holiday card with glossy photographs of your lovely, smiling family. My wife, Emily, and I place your cards like trophies on our shelves, continuing an old-school practice that began about 175 years ago as a way of maintaining relationships as families and friends moved far and wide. Today’s cards may appear more personalized — with photos of spouses, kids and pets, and distribution lists much smaller than a sprawling collection of Facebook friends. But when I flip over the photo
Chris Matthews is crazy. Nevertheless, when left-wingers talk openly with one another, their craziness can be revealing. That is the case, I think, with this remarkable MSNBC clip. Matthews, fresh from his kneepad interview with President Obama, praises what he terms a uniquely brilliant insight by Al Sharpton: South Africa’s white politicians of the apartheid era were more patriotic than today’s Republicans: I haven’t heard anything as smart as what I heard Reverend Sharpton say a moment go in five years. The difference between the way F.W. de Klerk handled the need for change and the election – democratic election
