Panic in DC after female driver with a child rammed barricades outside the White House before fleeing to the Capitol, crashing into a police car and being shot dead Daily Mail (UK), by Louise Boyle, Rachel Quigley*
A woman has been shot dead today after she rammed her car into a White House barricade with a young child inside then led police on a chase toward the Capitol, witnesses said. Up to 15 shots were fired at 2pm (ET) on Thursday with officers swarming the scene with machine guns while hundreds of staffers and tourists fled in terror or took shelter in buildings at the political heart of Washington D.C. The female suspect was shot dead by police officers but is not believed to have returned fire. She is reportedly a 34-year-old dental hygienist from Stamford, Connecticut.
Uh oh....could be an Obama Mama that just found out Obamacare wasn´t free like he lead his minions to believe. We shall see. If the reasoning doesn´t come out early tonight then the dims are doing some scrubbing as they always do with any dim negative news.
So, a military response to a probably unarmed woman with a child. Sounds kinda like Ruby Ridge. Was Janet Reno somehow in charge of the response? Isn’t this a bit over kill (no pun intended)? If any of us make a mistake and run into some goobernment barricade during the shutdown can we expect a Para military response to blow our brains out? Ruby Ridge, Waco, and now this. Seems our goobernment gives itself a license to kill with excessive force.
One unarmed woman with a child who rammed a barricade at the WH gate, refused to stop when told to by police, led police on a high speed chase, rammed another barricade at the Capitol, again refused to stop, and tried to get away again. If she had killed someone or more the police would have been blamed. Not sure why people are trying to make her sound innocent and the police guilty.. But of course the constant interest in her race is no surprise.
Although seeing all those para-military forces so rapidly deployed is somewhat disturbing, I´m with #11. Has there ever been any question about the peril you put yourself in by trying to crash your vehicle into the White House grounds?
Unless the media have some divine thought as to her intent, it is completely erroneous to say that this woman "TRIED" to ram the WH gate. And yet that is the consistent description of the initial event. She´s dead now, and so we´ll never know. This "White House gate" has been described as being two blocks from the WH grounds. And #11 - I´m anything but a cop basher, but there are plenty of agencies that have policies of "no shoot" when it comes to vehicles, mostly due to what can happen if the driver is wounded and then drives away.
I am with 11 & 12 on this. If this same event had occurred just 3 day´s ago when Bibi´s motorcade used the same gates and routes to move between the WH and the Hill, many of the same folks cracking jokes on these various threads would instead be expressing horror. Beginning next Tues or so, hundreds of heads of state, Minister of Finance, and other foreign muckitymucks will be in DC for a week for the World Bank/ IMF meetings...security motorcades will abound...
Some stories claim she ´almost´ stuck a barricade. Full-coverup mode sounds more like it. Want to bet this disappears off the national media screen if she didn´t actually strike the barricade? Or even if she did and it turned out to be poor driving skills or she was trying to turn around because she was lost? Just like those two women on the paper route in Calif earlier this year, except the DC cops got closer before they opened fire.
Something very odd here... all those pics, with one police car completely totaled, another with a door torn off... and yet look at the condition of the woman´s car... hardly scratched by comparison. We´re told she ´rammed´ a barricade (typically steel post filled with concrete) - why is there no damage that would indicate that she smashed into it? Something very odd...
We can also be thankful #23 that there are no photos showing the children, mothers and grandparents pictured in some pics having been slaughtered by this driver....#20 is correct pointing out DM is known for vacuuming photos/videos from a wide variety of sources and running them...
I´ve watched enough of this stuff on TV to ask,"why didn´t they shoot her tires?" She would have stopped and could be questioned. This is the government that wants to take away our guns, but shoots at us too easily and quickly.
I saw a video they showed on FOX News. The woman was stopped, a police car partially blocking the rear of her car and about half dozen officers holding a gun on her. She gunned it in reverse, slammed the cop car, took off, the a cop carwas was chasing her, she tore around a traffic circle going quite fast. This was not confusion or getting lost - this broad was probably just nuts. I was also wondering why they didn´t shoot her tires when she hit the cop car. They must not be trained to do that, but it could have saved a life. No tears here, though.
All she had to do was stop. She drove at speeds of 80 mph down streets around DC with a baby in the car. She was not a confused tourist , she was using her vehicle as a weapon and it´s a miracle she didn´t kill innocent people. The Capitol and the White House are heavily guarded , especially after 9/11 , thus the huge presence. I expect PTSD to be trotted out as an excuse for her maniacal behavior.
Well, whatever ~ she was a dental tech from CT. So much for the Somali idea ~ BTW, Somali women are not involved in politics. That´s a culture that´s purely "man´s world; woman´s world" with no lines crossed.
Most likely she was startled by the security features ´near the White House´ ~ the Secret Service, and the Congress critters who oversee them ~ have tried hard to make those features "friendly" and not at all intimidating, or even obvious.
I think this was simply a day tourist looking for a parking space downtown during the gub´mnt shutdown.
She went the wrong way and triggered SS´s SS behavior and it went downhill from there.
They aren´t saying now whether they shot here before retrieving the baby, or after.
As President Obama wrapped up his conversation with Chris Matthews at American University, he took a swipe at the partisan media for dividing the country and making compromise more difficult. Obama said being the Commander-in-Chief for so long “makes you humbler, as opposed to cockier,” and compared himself to Sisyphus, rolling the boulder up the hill for eternity with little success. He spoke of how enthusiastic young people encourage him and give him confidence, only for the media to take that enthusiasm and use it to divide people. “The American people are good and they are decent, and yes, sometimes
Chris Matthews got his long-desired wish on Thursday, an exclusive interview with Barack Obama. The Hardball anchor didn´t exactly live up to the title of his show, wondering about Republican efforts to "make it difficult for minorities to vote" and questioning who was better, Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden? Talking to the President at American University, Matthews read a question from Twitter: "What can we do to stop the GOP, the Republicans, from rigging the states, rigging the votes, state by state, to disenfranchise voters and destroy our democracy?" The host added, "Thirty six states right now led by Republican
Wednesday night, MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews announced that his interview with the president, which is scheduled for today, gave him "the Christmas Eve excitement." Outside the left-wing fever swamp of MSNBC, Matthews is perhaps most famous to the American people for his 2008 comment about how an Obama speech put a "thrill up his leg." In his latest campaign effort to rehabilitate his sinking presidency and health care law, President Obama will sit down with Matthews this afternoon in front of a group of college students. The audience is no accident. Obama desperately needs healthy Millennials to be stupid
Rep. George Holding (R-N.C.) has proposed legislation that would require federal officials and others who use ObamaCare data to commit identify theft to serve a five-year prison term. His No Identify Theft in Health Care Act, H.R. 3652, is yet another response to the troubled ObamaCare rollout. Over the last week, reports have surfaced quoting computer security experts who said HealthCare.gov has virtually no data security measures in place. Under Holding´s bill, healthcare "navigators" or anyone else guilty of using ObamaCare data for an identify theft scheme would face prison time. Many bills amending criminal statutes set maximum prison sentences,
A new Gallup poll has President Obama’s job approval rating among Hispanics has declined 23 points since the end of last year. The drop is the largest of any subgroup surveyed and about double the decline for all respondents. Obama’s approval rating with Hispanics in November 2013 is 52 percent. In December 2012 it was 75 percent, down 23 points in 12 months. The president’s overall approval rating was 41 percent in November 2013, down from 53 percent in November of 2012.
Did you hear the one about the U.S. Post Office and the Statue of Liberty? So the Postal Service decides to issue a stamp commemorating perhaps the single most iconic image around the world representing the United States of America, the country that the post office serves so faithfully — rain, snow, or shine. (Photo)They get a nice picture of Lady Liberty, her greenish copper gaze across New York Harbor welcoming the masses to a new land of hope and promise and opportunity. They print it up First Class at the rate of “Forever,” as in a timeless promise that
Nobody is coming for your guns, they said. Nobody is taking away your rights, they said. This is all about public safety, they said. Nearly a year ago, the New York legislature passed the toughest gun control law in the country known as the S.A.F.E. Act. It was rushed through in the middle of the night and as soon as it landed on Governor Cuomo´s desk, he signed it without asking questions. Now, local and state government are taking the opportunity to crack down on regulations already on the books which means for many, turn in your guns or leave.
An academic was the first to cross the invisible line. “The ultimate check on presidential lawlessness is elections and, in extreme cases, impeachment,” Georgetown law professor Nicholas Rosenkranz told Representative Darrell Issa at a House Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday on the president’s duty to uphold the law. With that first mention of the “i word,” leaks began springing from the dam that had been holding back the House GOP lawmakers united by frustration with President Obama’s executive abuses. Republicans have been watching impotently as Obama has walked all over the law, with increasing brazenness the further he gets into his tenure.
A beloved American teacher was shot dead in the Libyan city of Benghazi on Thursday, just days before he was supposed to return to the U.S. for the holidays, the school´s principal said. Ronnie Smith, 33, had been teaching chemistry at the International School Benghazi for about 18 months and was "very much loved," principal Peter Hodge told NBC News. “He was the most amazing person, more like a best friend or a family member," said student Yomna Zentani, 18. "After everything that happened in Libya, we were losing hope and he was the only one who was supporting us,
Sarah Palin, in her first public reaction to MSNBC host Martin Bashir´s resignation following an on-air attack against her, said Thursday that Bashir´s comments were "par for the course." "Six years ago, I probably would have been personally hurt by such an attack," the former Alaska governor told Fox News. "Now, no, I look at it as it´s kind of par for the course." Bashir, in scripted commentary, said last month that someone should defecate in Palin´s mouth. He was invoking an old slave punishment in response to a speech by Palin, a Fox News contributor, comparing the national debt
On Thursday, Clear Channel started announcing major lineup shifts in three of its biggest markets. In Los Angeles, Limbaugh will be moving from the top talk station in the market, KFI, to its sister station, KTLK, which will be flipped from a liberal talk station to a primarily conservative talker anchored by Limbaugh. Breitbart News has learned that Clear Channel will soon be announcing a similar change in San Francisco, as well as confirming the long expected move in New York from Cumulus-owned WABC to WOR, which was purchased by Clear Channel last year. These moves are not unexpected from
Hourly wage increases advocated by labor groups could kill more than 450,000 jobs, according to a new report. Union-backed labor groups, including Fast Food Forward and Fight for 15, are staging nationwide walk-outs and demonstrations at fast food chains across the country calling for starting wages of $15 per hour. Their success could spell economic disaster for nearly 20 percent of the nation’s 2.5 million fast food workers, according to an analysis from the Employment Policies Institute. “We find that roughly 460,000 jobs would be lost in the fast food industry as a consequence of a $15 minimum wage,” the EPI
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Nineteen people stood behind President Obama on stage in the Executive Office Building Tuesday as the president kicked off a new campaign to promote Obamacare. One of those people, a young Florida woman named Monica Weeks, introduced Obama after telling the story of being struck with Crohn´s Disease at age 19 and receiving expensive treatments for several years that were covered by her parents´ health care plan — because Obamacare allowed her to remain on that plan until age 26. Now, Weeks said, she has coverage through a job. "The Affordable Care Act gives young adults who are just starting
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
Continued global warming poses a risk of rapid, drastic changes in some human and natural systems, a scientific panel warned Tuesday, citing the possible collapse of polar sea ice, the potential for a mass extinction of plant and animal life and the threat of immense dead zones in the ocean. At the same time, some worst-case fears about climate change that have entered the popular imagination can be ruled out as unlikely, at least over the next century, the panel found. These include a sudden belch of methane from the ocean or the Arctic that would fry the planet, as
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
The president put in his ask to Disney CEO Bob Iger at a private meeting with entertainment moguls during his Nov. 26 visit to Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation. [snip] If you have any doubt as to how much of a sports junkie Barack Obama is, check in with the entertainment moguls who attended a private briefing with the president Nov. 26 before his speech at Jeffrey Katzenberg´s DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale. At the end of the conversation -- which touched on a myriad of topics, from piracy to Iran -- Obama revealed what´s at the top of his bucket
