A sweeping national effort to extend health coverage to millions of Americans will leave out two-thirds of the poor blacks and single mothers and more than half of the low-wage workers who do not have insurance, the very kinds of people that the program was intended to help, according to an analysis of census data by The New York Times. Because they live in states largely controlled by Republicans that have declined to participate in a vast expansion of Medicaid, the medical insurance program for the poor, they are among the eight million Americans who are impoverished, uninsured and ineligible
Comments: Ah, the NYT blaming the GOP governors instead of the One
The NYT is equating health insurance with healthcare again. Nice try, but it won´t work. Even after Obamacare is implemented, the GAO reports that 35 million will still be without insurance, which is about the same number used to justify its passage.
Question for the LoFo´s, if it really wasn´t designed to provide coverage, what was it for?
It´s a matter of priorities here. When faced with the decision to spend disposable income on healthcare or tattoos, booze, cigarettes, etc, the tattoos win. Over 50% of births in Texas are without paid insurance. Many have $1000´s invested in tattoos, but no money to pay for the birth of their child.
I´ve learned that immigrant communities don´t necessarily understand the convoluted American system of health insurance. They do what they did in other countries: when you have a medical problem, you go to the hospital. Here, that means the emergency room, where they are treated no matter whether they have insurance or not. So...what is the big deal and why should they have insurance?
All of this pontificating about "employer-provided plans", "high deductibles",etc. is lost on those who don´t understand this aspect of the American system. Even the naming convention doesn´t work - "healthcare.gov" does not provide any health care! It sells insurance.
The NYSlime fails to acknowledge that the law was unread when passed. Even if read, the fascist under Piglosi and Reid would have past it as they felt the Medicaid component was rock solid. It turned out to be unconstitutional. Thus, the fault isn´t with goobenors as they are only following the Medicaid portion of the law (remember, it was passed and NOT upheld by the SCOTUS). The problem is Piglosi, Reid and Obambi tried to use an unconstitutional mechanism to force the sovereign states to enact unconstitutional programs. Thus, the glaring deficiency that is going to prevent the taxpayer from supporting a bunch more freeloaders with insurance was the fault of those that made the law, and that didn’t include one single Rebublican or even a RINO.
When is Barack planning, like he himself said he dreams of doing, to go full Bulworth and admit this is all about transforming the US from free to socialist? Come on, Barack, time is running out and your base needs to hear that S word loud and clear from your own lips.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with that despicable John Roberts. My 1st question would be ´what the hell did you do that made it so easy for Obama and Soros to blackmail you´ the 2nd..´ was it worth destroying the country to cya?´ Tell me all about the adoption of your children. Where did they come from and what country did you go through?´ Explain to us you piece of crap just why you made up a law for the Dems´ He should be impeached by hook or by crook. just like the Dems would do...Oh I forgot. we have cowards who might be under threat of blackmail themselves. Won´t happen.
We are living in the 2nd Great Depression. The ignorant NYSlimes believes we should give away more free stuff to the "takers", without admitting that the "makers" are dwindling daily. If only the Slimes had some morality and actually wrote to defend the people who make this country work, but no, they take the easy violin playing way out.
All should remember, SC CJ John Roberts admitted to all that it was just another Federal tax. And since when do taxes guarantee anything for the chronically poor? How long has LBJ´s "Great Society" and "War on Poverty" been going on?
Everything in the world is the GOP´s fault. Even stuff we aren´t aware is going wrong yet. Even stuff that happened before the GOP came into being. And even stuff happening in remote places of the world.
Yeah, c´mon, MSM -- keep piling it on. I can hardly wait to hear how Pontius Pilate was, in fact, taking orders from Boehner, and how Jacob´s underhanded theft of Esau´s birthright was orchestrated by advisers from Dubya´s administration.
BO and the liberals rushed to pass a law that would vastly increase government costs in the face of a recession when we could least afford it. The expansion of Medicaid was a grenade hidden in the bill. The states who had the most poor and could least afford to absorb the costs of medical care would be forced to do so. The court said they didn´t have to and the fiscally responsible states said No Thanks because they knew they couldn´t afford it. The federal goobermint rushed ahead with the rest of BOCare even though the Country can´t afford it either. The costs are already spiraling out of control and what they have done to set it up doesn´t work.
The Slimes whines but medical coverage was good and improving prior to BOCare. It wasn´t fast enough for the liberals so they blew the whole thing up.
I´m with #6. I was in a civil but elevated discussion with a doctor who has close family ties from my home town. She´s an adamant ACA lover and perhaps a troll. Then three other doctors(?) jumped in and the discussion went south with personal attacks on me.
I had postulated that a huge burden would be lifted from healthcare expense if "something" was demanded from the ER frequent flyers seeking drugs. I suggested something like a pack of cigarettes or cutting off a tattoo and sticking it on the wall.
Well, this new attack doctor came back with "if I wasn´t so stupid I´d know that a pack of cigarettes or a tattoo wasn´t enough to pay for an ER visit."
I´m still laughing at the stupidity, but they live among US... and vote!
NEW YORK) — The healthcare.gov website is supposed to be up and running. But a sudden run on the site could cause it to crash. That is the conundrum faced by President Barack Obama who said that the page would be working by the end of November. Following an 11-hour, overnight, maintenance session that shut down part of the website, healthcare.gov is back open for business. The goal of the maintenance was to ensure that the site could handle 50,000 users at a time and 800,000 inside of a day. “The challenge isn’t how many lanes do you have on the highway, it’s
A sensational note written by Rupert Murdoch’s ex-wife Wendi Deng that reveals she had a ‘crush’ on Tony Blair has been found, it was revealed last night. The note was written before media tycoon Mr Murdoch filed for divorce when he discovered Ms Deng had spent weekends with Mr Blair at Mr Murdoch’s homes. A well-placed source said the document was written in the form of a note by Ms Deng to herself in which she expressed her ‘warm feelings’ for the former Prime Minister. In further dramatic developments surrounding the feud between the two men – who forged one of the most
On Monday, President Barack Obama’s speech before a crowd of supporters in San Francisco was interrupted when a heckler erupted with demands that the president halt deportations of illegal immigrants via executive order. Politifact took on the heckler’s claims on Tuesday with a thorough audit of his statements. “You have a power to stop deportation for all undocumented immigrants in this country,” declared the heckler who has since been identified as 24-year-old Ju Hong of South Korea.
The Obama administration, in what’s been called an egregious slap in the face to the Vatican, has moved to shut down the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See — a free-standing facility — and relocate offices onto the grounds of the larger American Embassy in Italy. The new offices will be in a separate building on the property, Breitbart reported. And while U.S. officials are touting the relocation as a security measure that’s a cautionary reaction to last year’s attacks on America´s facility in Benghazi, several former American envoys are raising the red flag. It’s a “massive downgrade of U.S.-Vatican ties,” said
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has agreed to referee another dispute over President Barack Obama’s health care law, whether businesses can use religious objections to escape a requirement to cover birth control for employees. The justices said Tuesday they will take up an issue that has divided the lower courts in the face of roughly 40 lawsuits from for-profit companies asking to be spared from having to cover some or all forms of contraception.
BEIJING — U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke, who oversaw the handling of potential crises over the flights to U.S. diplomatic missions by a persecuted legal activist and a high-profile police chief, said Wednesday he will step down early next year. Locke, the first Chinese-American to hold the post, said he informed President Barack Obama earlier this month of his decision to rejoin his family in Seattle.
AMSTERDAM/UNITED NATIONS - Syria´s chemical weapons could be processed and destroyed out at sea, say sources familiar with discussions at the international body in charge of eliminating the toxic arsenal. Four days after Albania rejected a U.S. request that it host a weapons decommissioning plant, Western diplomats and an official of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons at The Hague told Reuters the OPCW was studying whether it might carry out the work at sea, on a ship or offshore rig. Confirming the discussion, the OPCW official stressed there had been no decision: "The only thing known at this time
New Jersey may have Snooki and an unbearable stench, but Gov. Chris Christie is encouraging New Yorkers to move there because of something his state doesn’t have — Bill de Blasio. The garrulous Garden State governor said during a speech to The Wall Street Journal CEO Council Monday that New York is going in the “wrong direction” — especially since de Blasio’s election as mayor — and that residents should consider a change. “You see taxes being increased there,” Christie said. “You have a new mayor in New York who is aggressively talking about increasing taxes in New York City. “While I feel
Virginia state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, Bath Democrat, was stabbed in his home Tueday morning and his son Gus died from a gunshot wound, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. Mr. Deeds is in critical condition at the University of Virginia Medical Center and authorities are trying to determine the sequence of events, the paper reported. He unsuccessfully for governor of Virginia in 2009.
The Republican Party stands for nothing. As Barack Obama threatens to fumble away his presidency along with the Democratic Party´s reasons for existence – championing an active, efficient government—the GOP lurches into the leadership breach with … zilch. Rather than be the party of solutions in a gridlocked capital, appealing to a leadership-starved public, the GOP is the party of obstruction, ensuring that its putrid approval ratings nose dive apace with Obama´s. The country needs sensible immigration reform that brings 11 million or so undocumented residents out of the shadows. No, says the GOP. The country needs to tame a massive debt that
The millions of health coverage cancellation notices that have gone out in recent weeks have thoroughly debunked President Obama´s pledge that if Americans like their health care coverage, they can keep it. The president, along with the many other Democrats who made the same promise, is now paying a political price for his words. But the keep-your-coverage promise was just part of the Obamacare sales job. Obama, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and top Democrats made all sorts of claims in their effort to convince a skeptical public to accept a complicated, far-reaching national health care scheme.
LOS ANGELES — Advice for the power players at Hollywood’s coming round of black-tie galas: Don’t leave your seat to table-hop.Your chair might be gone when you get back. Even as the movie awards season accelerates here, studio chiefs and major producers have been fretting less about Oscars than about job security. A rolling realignment has knocked out top executives, broken apart old alliances and shattered assumptions about corporate loyalties and the industry’s pecking order. Is Jeff Robinov, edged aside in June as president of the Warner Brothers Motion Picture Group, now headed toward Sony Pictures, as Hollywood’s busy trade press has
A Republican strategist is reminding his party that President Reagan is dead. Ford O´Connell, who worked on Sen. John McCain´s (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential campaign, says if Republicans want to win the White House in 2016, they need to break free of the "obsessive Reagan disorder." Rule #1 of the political analyst´s newly released book, "Hail Mary: The 10-Step Playbook for Republican Recovery," is: "Ronald Reagan is dead. Accept it." Such a sentiment is sure to be tough to digest for a party insistent on using the 40th president´s legacy as a GOP litmus test to prove conservative credentials. "The Reagan fixation is a drag
The hits to President Obama´s popularity, prompted by the botched HealthCare.gov rollout, are simply a natural fluctuation every commander-in-chief faces, Obama told interviewer Barbara Walters in an interview aired Friday. "If you remember, I´ve gone up and down pretty consistently throughout," Obama said in the ABC interview on Friday. "But the good thing about when you´re down is that usually you´ve got nowhere to go but up." "I got re-elected in part because people did think I was trustworthy and they knew I was working on their behalf," Obama said in the network´s exclusive. A CNN Poll of Polls complied
WASHINGTON — As a small coterie of grim-faced advisers shuffled into the Oval Office on the evening of Oct. 15, President Obama’s chief domestic accomplishment was falling apart 24 miles away, at a bustling high-tech data center in suburban Virginia. HealthCare.gov, the $630 million online insurance marketplace, was a disaster after it went live on Oct. 1, with a roster of engineering repairs that would eventually swell to more than 600 items. The private contractors who built it were pointing fingers at one another. And inside the White House, after initially saying too much traffic was to blame, Mr. Obama’s
An education official at a Texas high school is under fire after telling some female students they have been dressing like ‘hoes.’ According to KRIV Fox 26, School Support Officer Dr. Tameca Richardson made the remark to female students at Jack Yates High School in Houston during an assembly on campus. A spokesperson for the Houston Independent School District confirmed the language used by Richardson, the station reported. Some parents expressed anger over Richardson’s terminology, saying the Ph.D.-level educator should have used language that was less offensive. "That was out of line and she should be disciplined for that,"
AUBURN, Ala. — In a season of miracles for Auburn, all it has taken is one mistake to give the Tigers life. No. 1 Alabama made just enough of them Saturday to change the course of history. With no time left on the clock, Auburn cornerback Chris Davis caught a 57-yard field goal attempt by Alabama in the back of the end zone, ran it out down the left sideline and went 109 yards untouched to beat the Crimson Tide, 34-28.
Sen. John McCain is starting to sound like a Tea Party “wacko bird.” In a new fundraising letter for the Republican National Committee released Friday, McCain lashed out at “Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Washington liberals,” who he claimed are destroying the United States. Liberals, he warned, “have taken us down a dark and dangerous path defined by record levels of debt, ever-expanding government, and a lead-from-behind defense strategy. There´s not much time left to turn things around.” McCain’s name carries a lot of weight in fundraising because he was the 2008 GOP nominee and is a leading voice of
President Obama took part in Small Business Saturday by heading over to Politics and Prose, a locally-owned bookstore in Washington, D.C. Wearing a brown leather coat and tan sweater, the president mingled with customers and wished them happy holidays. He brought daughters Malia and Sasha, who occasionally left his side to shop as he chatted with others. At the register, when asked what books he purchased, Obama said, “it is a long list ... books for every age group, from 5 to 52.” In all, Obama purchased 21 titles, including, “All That Is” by James Salter; “Collision Low Crossers:
Former Obama advisor David Plouffe appeared on This Week With George Stephanopoulos Sunday morning and predicted that President Barack Obama’s approval rating would rise over the next few months, following the increasing functionality of the Affordable Care Act. “This has been a tough task,” Plouffe said. “It’s not just health care. The shutdown affected everybody’s confidence in government. But let’s fast-forward to the State of the Union and the months after that. Health care working better, a lot of people signing up. The economy continuing to strengthen. Hopefully no Washington shutdowns.
It only took five years for the American media to get tired of President Obama´s spoon-fed propaganda -- well, at least one aspect of it. Earlier this month, 38 news organizations, including the Associated Press, ABC News, The Washington Post, and Reuters demanded more photojournalist access to the president. The White House responded with what one reporter described as a middle finger. Now some news organizations are responding by formalizing policies not to publish White House-distributed photographs. Last week the USA Today announced that it will not use “handout photos originating from the White House Press Office, except in very
Appearing on Friday night’s On the Record, conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer strongly criticized President Barack Obama for his “cavalier attitude” towards the separation of powers enshrined in the Constitution. “Democrats will rue the day that they allowed all this,” Krauthammer declared. “I’m talking about how the administration, particularly the president, seems to think that he has the right to change duly passed statutes on his own or to suspend parts of laws on his own,” Krauthammer said when asked to clarify his critique of the Obama administration’s “lawlessness.” “The Constitution is pretty clear,” he continued,
As America struggles with high unemployment and record inequality, everyone is offering competing solutions to the problem. In this war of words (and classes), one thing has been repeated so often that many people now regard it as fact. "Rich people create the jobs." Specifically, by starting and directing America´s companies, entrepreneurs and rich investors create the jobs that sustain everyone else. This statement is usually invoked to justify cutting taxes on entrepreneurs and investors. If only we reduce those taxes and regulations, the story goes, entrepreneurs and investors can be incented to build more companies and create more jobs. This argument ignores the fact
NEW YORK— New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio will sweep into office in January with a powerful mandate for progressive change, but a looming fiscal crisis threatens to derail his agenda before it begins. De Blasio, a Democrat, faces a multifaceted dilemma years in the making that he´ll be forced to confront within weeks of taking office. He will contend with soaring worker health care costs, a still-fragile recovery from the recession and potentially a dramatic reduction in the vital aid supplied to New York by the state and federal governments. But de Blasio´s most immediate crisis is presented by
