With the horrendous terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Somali al Qaeda affiliate al Shabab is back in the news. We still don’t know the identity of the perpetrators, or whether any of them had made their way to al Shabab from Minnesota or points elsewhere in the United States. I trust that time will. For now we have the New York Times visit to Minneapolis to pass on the fears of Somali residents that they will be stigmatized and (good grief!) and scrutinized. And the Star Tribune is on the case to transmit the avowals of local
The Portland Maine paper reported shortly after the Westgate massacre started that one of the perps was from Maine. When the Federal government made Waterville a "sanctuary city" and the Somalis started flocking there in droves, I knew there would eventually be problems. Portland has a very large Muslim community as well, many of them Somalis. Now the head of the "African Diaspora Institute" claims racism is behind this story and that it is not true.
Can anyone forget the pictures of Mohammed Atta going through security at PWM the morning of September 11, 2001?

We have a disastrous refugee program. It has brought in tens of thousands of Somalis over the years (and millions of others), including a lot of frauds who claimed family reunification. After DNA testing that program was stopped, but only for a while. Communities have no say in what refugees and how many get placed. Many kinds of refugees are disruptive but Somalis are the worst by far. Here is the go-to blog on the issue -- search "somalis" for a ton of info. refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com
Regarding US refugee policy. Since most supposed refugees are poor and generally uneducated people it is for certain that they will almost always support the liberal Democrat political agenda.
You can bet that hidden deep in the liberal Democrat designed and US Senate passed amnesty bill there are provisions that will greatly liberalize refugee policies so that massive numbers of such refugees will be allowed into the USA in the coming years.
This is just one part of the liberal Democrat plan to transform America. Unfortunately some "cheap labor" seeking Republicans ignore all the long term adverse political aspects of such liberal immigration policies to the Republican Party and to conservative Americans as long as the legal US job market is flooded with cheap foreign labor as a result of greatly expanding immigration of all sorts.
If the Republicans help the Democrats facilitate such liberal immigration policies, the Democrats will eventually generate tens of millions of new mostly socialist oriented foreign born voters who have little to no knowledge of American traditions. Then the Republicans will have no chance of ever again winning national elections.
Well how very noble and gracious of this great country to lend a hand to these suffering souls, even though it mean the destruction of said country. I guess that´s what the libs call a twofer.
On another note, 2 Asians jabbering in front of me at the customer service counter of my local supermarket eventually made it clear to the clerk they wanted to return their two large bags of frozen shrimp - and have it credited to their EBT (food stamp) card. Oy! Why in God´s heaven are we giving free food to immigrants/foreigners/what have you? They´ll probably turn out to be Chinese spies.
#6 I believe England, France, Norway etc., would like to have a word with you. At least we do not have them burnning cars in the streets night on end... yet. I like to believe they know they´d get their butts shot off.
I work with several Somalis in the Minneapolis area. One outspoken one is never seen taking a prayer time, and he supports al Shabab, saying that it is a good organization. Evidently Ahmed has not shared this with Rabic, another Somali, otherwise there would be an unpleasant exchange, because two of Rabic´s nieces were maimed in the Kenya mall attack. I guess what bugs me the most from most of the Somalis I work with - is that they do not seem to convey any sense of gratitude for their new adopted country. It´s more of getting ahead and getting what´s coming to them- - even if that means ignoring the strife in their native country. Humility, they have not.
When supporters of Barack Obama feel compelled to write articles hotly declaring that the president isn’t finished, as many have this week, you know one thing: The idea that he might be finished is very much on their minds. In one sense, the argument is entirely unnecessary. Of course Obama isn’t finished. He’s the president, for God’s sake. Even if his troubles persist and deepen, he still bestrides the narrow world like a Colossus. After all, George W. Bush was “finished” once Republicans lost control of the House and Senate in 2006, yet he managed to turn the Iraq War around with
As 2013 draws to a close, let’s take a look at a few of the year’s most powerful photos… #1 – Senator Ted Cruz’s daughters watch with delight as he speaks out against Obamacare for 21 hours straight. He pauses to read them Dr. Seuss’s “Green Eggs and Ham” just before their bedtime.(Snip for photo)#2 – Former President George W. Bush uses Instagram to show off his granddaughter, Mila, on Grandparents Day.(Snip for photo)#3 – Astronaut Karen Nyberg gets up close and personal with the International Space Station.
It’s the awe-inspiring pride of the United States – and it harbors a deadly power that could kill us all. Yellowstone National Park is pristine wilderness, full of scenic landscape and iconic hot-pools and geysers that attract tens of thousands of visitors every year. But it’s what lies beneath that has scientists scurrying. We’ve long known that Yellowstone is merely the skin on top of a supervolcano – a giant pool of magma sitting just under the Earth’s surface. Exactly how giant has been the subject of much speculation. Until now. A team from the University of Utah have told the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting
The wife of American pastor Saeed Abedini, a religious prisoner in Iran, said the U.S. government has abandoned her husband during a congressional hearing on Thursday. Naghmeh Abedini told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that she was dismayed after learning that her husband’s imprisonment was not raised during the recent nuclear negotiations between Iran, the United States, and other world powers. Saeed Abedini was detained last year for starting Christian house churches in Iran and was later sentenced to eight years in prison for “undermining the national security of Iran.”
‘Obamacare was sold on a trinity of lies.” That ornate phrase, more suitable for the Book of Revelations or perhaps the next installment of Game of Thrones, comes from my National Review colleague Rich Lowry. But I like it. Most people know the first deception in the triumvirate of deceit: “If you like your health insurance you can keep it, period.” The second leg in the tripod of deception was “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” But the third plank in the triad of disinformation hasn’t gotten much attention: Obamacare will save you, me, and the country a
As enrollment starts to increase, the government has started using manual work-arounds for the various software errors that plague HealthCare.gov. About 365,000 people have signed up for private insurance in the last two months, and 5 million visited the site in the first week of December, according to Reuters.(Snip for graph)Here’s more on what’s still missing from the site: Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius described the manual procedure as a temporary measure for software applications that have not yet been built, tested and incorporated into the massive system behind the HealthCare.gov website. Still missing are an automated system for verifying
T he Black Death is back. One of the most devastating pandemics in human history, the Black Death — also known as the plague — killed more than 25 million people in Europe, Asia, and North Africa at its peak between 1348 and 1350. And it has re-emerged in Madagascar. Last year, 60 people died there from the bubonic plague — the highest death toll in the world. And last week, 20 people from a single remote village died from it. Madagascar’s Pasteur Institute, which confirmed that the deaths had occurred due to plague, is worried that the plague may now spread to towns
Excuse me, but I’m a little confused. Just why are “movement” conservatives and libertarians so angry with Paul Ryan about the budget deal he made with Patty Murray? Now, of course, I understand why some politicians are angry, or pretending to be. They’re Ryan’s competition for POTUS in 2016, assuming the Wisconsin congressman wants to run. They’re positioning themselves for a campaign. But the rest of us? Let’s stipulate this: No conservative or libertarian is going to get what he or she wants on government spending — or even anything remotely close to it — without winning the Senate in 2014 and
As my pal Nathan said, this might be the first award he’s gotten that he truly deserved. But give him time. A few more years of dithering until Iran has a nuclear weapon and he might earn that Nobel Peace Prize after all. “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” President Barack Obama said — many times — of his landmark new law. But the promise was impossible to keep. So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama’s breezy assurances were wrong.Boiling down the complicated health
The GOP has been struggling to recapture the Senate majority for nearly a decade. Now, the sixth year itch, a plethora of vulnerable red-state Democrats, and Obamacare’s unpopularity appear to be forming a perfect storm – if the Republicans want it. Six years ago, the Democrats were riding high: after winning the Senate back two years prior amidst scandals and the Iraq War, they improved their gains greatly, coming within a seat of a supermajority (which then-Republican Senator Arlen Specter happily granted just a few months later). This was accomplished with a mix of reasonably close overthrows of sitting Republicans (Sununu,
A wild mustang trainer from Texas, a former champion in one of the most competitive horse events in the country, faced a new challenge this year. He had to train his daughter on how to tame and prepare a wild horse for Texas´ Mustang Million competition in just 120 days, all for a chance at winning hundreds of thousands of dollars to help their family. The Mustang Million is annual event that awards $1 million in total prize money to trainers who can prove they are the best at breaking wild mustangs into trusting partners. Trainers from across the United States flock
WASHINGTON -- An American who vanished nearly seven years ago in Iran was working for the CIA on an unapproved intelligence-gathering mission that, when it came to light inside the government, produced one of the most serious scandals in the recent history of the CIA - but all in secret, an Associated Press investigation found. The CIA paid Robert Levinson´s family $2.5 million to head off a revealing lawsuit. Three veteran analysts were forced out of the agency and seven others were disciplined. The U.S. publicly has described Levinson as a private citizen.
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. This lmao! Michelle Obama vs Prime Minister of Denmark at Mandela´s ceremony. pic.twitter.com/Rq4uF9fTaZ — Stun (@TheBlogPirate) December 10, 2013
THE Internet has been abuzz over the spectacle of President Obama and the prime ministers of Britain and Denmark snapping a photo of themselves — a “selfie,” to use the mot du jour — with a smartphone at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in South Africa on Tuesday. Leaving aside whether it was appropriate, the moment captured the democratization of image making that is a hallmark of our gadget-filled, technologically rich era. Manifestly undemocratic, in contrast, is the way Mr. Obama’s administration — in hypocritical defiance of the principles of openness and transparency he campaigned on — has systematically tried
If you go down on the ice today you´re sure of a big surprise - a rare glimpse of 20 polar bears gorging on a bloody midnight feast. These photographs show a rare cluster of males, females and cubs all dining out on the remains of a whale carcass. They spent a night and a day stripping every last morsel from the mammoth sea creature. Usually Polar bears are solitary and would never tolerate being so close to each other. But with food in plentiful supply and bellies dragging on the floor they seem too lethargic to fight.Wildlife photographer Michal
The Sexiest Man Alive is being enlisted to spice up Obamacare. Pop singer Adam Levine, who won the designation from People magazine last month, is among the celebrities who’ll be promoting enrollment in online health insurance exchanges as part of a social media campaign kicking off tomorrow. With enrollment totals behind administration projections after the botched start-up of the federal exchange, 17 state exchanges joined by an advocacy group are drawing on Obama administration allies in entertainment and sports to promote sign-ups, using social media such as Facebook and Twitter. Reprising a tactic President Barack Obama successfully employed in his 2012 re-election, organizers
