Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday brought home a 2,700-year-old Persian artifact the US administration gave him as “a special gift" to Iranians, media reports said. “The Americans contacted us on Thursday and said ´we have a gift for you´,” Rouhani told reporters upon arrival at the airport in Tehran, the ILNA news agency reported. “They gave it back as a special gift to the Iranian nation.” Rouhani was speaking of a 7th century BC silver Persian drinking cup in the shape of a winged Griffin, a legendary creature with the head of an eagle and body of a lion.

Well afterall, Hildabeast gave Putin a big plastic red push button and Øbamas gave the Queen of England an audio player loaded with all their favorite rap songs. It must have been hard to figure out how to top those gifts to foreign dignitaries.

Read the article. Obie returned stolen property. An artifact "looted from a cave" in Iran, and confiscated when an art dealer attempted to smuggle it into the U.S in 2003.

Where has it been since then?

Rather an odd "gift"...

This groveling just doesn´t end. I am getting really exasperated with B. Obama and what he doesn´t understand about the muslim world. They understand power and take quick advantage of weakness..."you hear me? Barack!!

As for the Iranians, instead of saying "thank you" they asked for the return of more artifacts....like we stole them.

Actions do speak louder than words, don´t they? I swear this dangerous person is taking precious years off my life. The only consolation I have is that the griffin didn´t cost us anything and didn´t cost Obama anything, either, typical of his tightfistedness when it´s not a gift for someone he likes.

I did like the little bit of snark in the comment from "Mohammad Ali Najafi, head of Iran´s heritage organisation who accompanied Rouhani to New York. . . We hope this will mark the beginning of the return of other artifacts. . . ." (Hint, hint!)

According to Wikipedia, a griffin is "used to denote strength and military courage and leadership. Griffins are portrayed with a rear body of a lion, an eagle´s head, with erect ears, and feathered breast, with forelegs of an eagle, including claws. These features indicate a combination of intelligence and strength."

How appropriate for this administration to give up such a symbol!

Under a more classy president, this would´ve been handled quietly and without self-congratulatory fanfare.

And given the Islamicists´ penchant for destroying ancient objects they deem non-Islamist (e.g., the Buddha statues carved into cliffs in Afghanistan, that were dynamited by the Taliban), I wonder if it might have been wise to hold onto this beautiful object for a few years ... until the hoped-for return of a more tolerant government in Iran?

Thanx, OP, for this thought-provoking article. The cup, plundered from Iran, should have been returned in 2003. And yes, this whole affair reeks of the Obama marionette´s manipulator, Valerie Jarrett.

But let´s take a different look at this whole Obama-Iran affair shall we? We might find that the Griffin gift was a magician´s distraction.

Why did the Iranians pick this week, after 34 years of silence, to ´graciously´ accept a phone call from an American president, Obama (Jarrett)? Who stands to gain/lose?

One could postulate that Obama stands to gain the most, because it gives his fawning US media a chance to take the focus off the disastrous domestic fiscal problems we are grappling with.

Perhaps a more likely scenario is that the crafty Iranians (think Chess) set up this thing to give them “sincere negotiations” cover as they enter the final stage of developing a nuclear weapon(s).

It seems likely that the muslims and muslim-lovers, Rouhani, Jarrett, and Obama engineered this thing. They all stand to gain. But who loses?

The American people lose because the Executive branch and the Senate are not negotiating in good faith – or even at all – with the House to avert yet-another fiscal crisis. But…

Israel stands to lose the most. Obama’s AIDING AND ABETTING Iran to finish its nuclear weapons program WILL COST ISRAELI LIVES!

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: I´ve gotta tell, another little thing about Nelson Mandela. Do you realize in a couple of ways, maybe even more than a couple, Nelson Mandela has more in common or had more in common with Clarence Thomas than he does with Barack Obama? For example, Nelson Mandela (even prior to becoming president, but certainly after he became president of South Africa) insisted on compliance with his country´s constitution. He insisted on it. Obama looks at the US Constitution as an obstacle and makes end runs around it every day, practically. In that sense... These are the kind of

The online insurance marketplace relays information about new customers in ´834´ transaction forms to the private insurance companies that provide the health plans. HealthCare.gov serves people in 36 states, while 14 states are running their own websites. To fully appreciate what former South African president Nelson Mandela was able to accomplish, it is necessary to hearken back to the South Africa he found when he emerged from prison in 1990, and what the country was like in those critical four years between his release and his election to the presidency in 1994. Put simply, South Africa was a violent, dangerous and heavily-armed place teetering precariously on the edge of an all-out race war. And in the early 1990s, it was entirely unclear which way the country would go. On one side, embittered white rejectionists were refusing to

Nelson Mandela was the most famous black man in history. He transcended race barriers to become an exemplar of human generosity of spirit. His towering personality made possible the peaceful transfer of power in South Africa from white minority to black majority rule. If he was less effective as president of his country than he had been as the symbol of resistance to apartheid, he demonstrated statesmanship unmatched in Africa. He inspired love as much as respect, and became regarded by hundreds of millions of people as a secular saint. More was asked of him, and sometimes claimed for him,

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in her forthcoming book that she was “hurt” and “angry” by 2012 reporting on her fraudulent claim to Native American heritage. “What really threw me, though, were the constant attacks from the other side,” Warren wrote in her book “A Fighting Chance.” “I would almost persuade myself that I was starting to get the hang of full-throttle campaigning and then — bam! Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

With Easter soon approaching, the Rev. Al Sharpton on Wednesday drew parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of President Obama’s political career. Joining the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” Mr. Sharpton said that his message for this Easter is that “no matter what the world may do to you unfairly, no matter how you’re crucified — nailed to the cross at home, or in your personal relationships, or on the job — that you can rise if you don’t lose yourself during the hard times and the challenges.” The reverend went on to say that Christ endured so much humiliation and unearned suffering leading up to his death,

Davis, of Fort Worth, will undergo the outpatient surgery at the Fort Worth Brain and Spine Institute. Dr. Thomas Ellis will perform the

The cash infusion by the federal government is actually going to help the city pay pensions, even though they´re playing a kind of shell game with the money. As for "blight removal," perhaps they could start with city hall. Reuters: Michigan officials and President Barack Obama´s Administration are discussing a plan to free up $100 million in federal money to aid Detroit´s retired city workers, the Detroit Free Press reported on Tuesday. Citing two people familiar with the talks, the newspaper said the talks were centered around federal money flowing to Michigan for blight removal. Under the plan, $100 million

Climate change’s latest casualty appears to be fish — or more specifically, fish brains — as researchers say the carbon dioxide that’s being absorbed into the ocean is causing the scaly creatures to lose their survival instincts. In other words, the fish are losing their minds, The Daily Mail reported. The acid from atmospheric carbon dioxide seeps into sea waters, dissolves and ultimately lowers the pH balance, researchers said. The acidic waters then hamper the fishes’ sensory systems, so they’re not able to distinguish between smells any longer, the scientists went on. When the acid levels get really high, the fish lose their
