Travis County DA´s Office Will
Appeal Tom Delay´s Acquittal

Texas Lawyer, by Miriam Rozen

Original Article

Posted By:kennedylaw, 9/23/2013 5:39:11 PM

Less than four hours after a three-judge panel of the 3rd Court of Appeals reversed former U.S. House of Representative Tom Delay´s felony convictions and acquitted him of money laundering and conspiring to money launder, prosecutors from the Travis County District Attorney´s office said they will ask the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to review that ruling.

Comments:
The Texas Supreme Court only hears civil cases. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is the highest state court for criminal cases.

And unlike the 3rd Court of Appeals and the Travis County DA (may he be accursed), the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals justices are elected on STATE-WIDE ballot.

Can the Travis County DA liberals be locked up forever or hung if they lose? This situation is a real pant load. They go after an acquitted person using tax dollars and have absolutely no consequences if they lose. This is not justice.

The only other article I have seen about the Travis County D.A.´s intention to appeal is an extremely left-biased article on Salon.com.

BTW - the Texas Lawyer is kinda like National Enquirer for lawyer - lots of gossip about which firms are breaking up and why, who´s mad at who, and generally liberal stuff. I don´t subscribe to it, but it´s likely they got the story from Salon, or at least the same writer.

Travis County taxpayers aren´t going to fund another expensive and futile run at Tom DeLay. That court smackdown was total. There is nothing to glue back together.

Yes, all nine Texas Supreme Court Justices are Republicans. John Cornyn sat on that court, too.

The Right Minimum

The Federal minimum wage has been frozen at $3.35 an hour for six years. In some states, it now compares unfavorably even with welfare benefits available without working. It´s no wonder then that Edward Kennedy, the new chairman of the Senate Labor Committee, is being pressed by organized labor to battle for an increase. No wonder, but still a mistake. Anyone working in America surely deserves a better living standard than can be managed on $3.35 an hour. But there´s a virtual consensus among economists that the minimum wage is an idea whose time has passed.

Evelina Gonzalez was supposed to undergo cancer surgery in July following chemotherapy but wound up shuttling from hospital to hospital in search of an available operating table. On the crest of her left breast, a mocha-colored tumor doubled in size and now bulges through her white spandex tank top. Gonzalez is on a list of 31 breast cancer patients waiting to have tumors removed at one of Venezuela´s biggest medical facilities, Maracay´s Central Hospital. But like legions of the sick across the country, she´s been neglected by a health care system doctors say is collapsing after years of deterioration.

But in the hands of a nefarious fraudster, that´s exactly what your digital identity could be doing. Unfortunately, it´s becoming more and more likely that you could fall prey to these thieves.

A two-decade family feud came to a violent end when a man shot dead the two home invaders that killed his wife and son, not knowing the assailants included his long-estranged daughter, authorities said Sunday. Though the investigation of Friday´s shootings continues, authorities said it appears Josephine and Jeffrey Ruckinger planned to murder her family at their rural central Pennsylvania home — but it remains unclear what exactly led to the deadly confrontation. [snip] Police say Roberta, 64, answered the door, and cried out something like "Oh my God, they have guns!" before her daughter shot her at point-blank range.

The sun fired off an intense solar storm at Earth Wednesday (Aug. 21) — the second in two days — hurtling billions of tons of charged particles at our planet, but should not pose a threat to people on the ground, NASA says. The solar eruption, called a coronal mass ejection, occurred yesterday at 1:24 a.m. EDT (0524 GMT) and sent charged particles streaking outward at 380 miles per second. That´s just over 1.3 million mph (2.2 million km/h). The solar fallout from the sun storm is expected to reach Earth within the next three days.

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'
